    Cheaper than an X-T3 at launch.
    Bargain alert!
    Much more capable specs than the Pocket 6K.
    Don't forget the cost of the screen and cage though.

    I applaud this race to the bottom. The real winner is us consumers.

    Could be useful for 4K/60p as well, for a more natural motion blur in slow-mo shots. 180 deg shutter is 1/120 for 60p, which eliminates most of the nice 24p look.

    I can see why it works well for the tommy guns
    I find it useful in low light - 1/25 means you can use a lower ISO
    All depends on the shot how it's going to turn out. Quick handheld camera movement looks a bit too blurry.
    180 shutter is also too slow for some things... it all depends. Usually it's perfect.
    I am going to try shooting everything without NDs and using my own shutter speed in post, with the motion blur in Resolve Studio 16 working so well just now... It gives you ability to choose the look in post rather than have motion blur baked into the source material!

    16-H, 8z, Elmoii, B&H are all the same, there is no one in this world that could pick them apart in a blind test. IQ differences are more sample variation and age than anything else (also all can come with different colour coatings).

    Ah I was thinking of the 16-D!
    Yes 16-H and 8z are the same.
    Actually I now prefer the Bolex Moller for the smaller size to my old Kowa... but the Kowa 2x glass is right up there with the Iscorama.

    Yes, I agree. A little more BTS stuff would be nice. It started of well but seemed to taper off. Don't mind some of the shorts he's producing, but a glimpse into the process would add to it.

    Yes. It's not a port any developers are working on. You need to have that specific camera and want to invest time in it, right now no one has taken that task up.

    On the contrary, ML is thriving.  You can't go by that nightly build page, as that is not where the action is. Most of the nightly builds that everyone uses are not official.

    To see the current activity, go to the main forum page, and scroll down to the bottom section titled, "Recently Updated Topics."  After a brief scanning of just a few of the top messages, I see the following active developers:  Danne, masc, cmh, Levas, ilia3101, reddeercity, 2blackbar, critix.

    Aren't MLV raw files are "raw?"  If so, such files have the same initial linear contrast as Canon h264 does, before the in-camera processing.  Thus, with the proper post processing, one should be able to duplicate the contrast of the h264 files (combined with a given picture style).

    I have dabbled a little with MLV files and MLV-App.   It seems one can output images with an exceedingly flat contrast by merely using one of the log profiles, if one wants to grade in a program other than MLV-App.

    On the other hand, ML instability and full res capability are understandably important concerns.

    Bokeh can be made to look anamorphic but the thing these anamorphake lenses don't reproduce is the differing look in the foreground compared to the background (or in focus vs out of focus areas). This is where true anamorphics (especially those with bigger squeeze such as 1.75-2x) get a lot of their look. Bokeh shape is part of it but it's not everything.

    Here’s my latest anamorphic adventure!
    Pro-tip for anyone who is considering an anamorphic rig on film: make sure your variable diopter has focus marks! Everything looked focused in the viewfinder, but it definitely wasn’t. Marks and a tape measure are your best friends.

    If you ever decide to launch a hobbist camera project, I'd be willing to contribute some of my free time to designing the user interface module.
    I've been an advocate of real simple UIs (User Interfaces), however with a balance of the things you need most often right at your fingertips at all times. Today I mostly don't like any of the user interfaces on any of the usual suspects in the camera business (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji, etc), and I think this could be much improved if these manufacturers gave us tools to create our own user interfaces and be able to share them with anyone else; heck, it could be something as simple as designing the UI with HTML, CSS and/or JSON and then providing javascript hooks into the actual functions, something similar to this:
    camera.setISO(800);
    camera.setSpeed(50);
    camera.setApperture(lens.getMaximumApperture());
    timeToShoot = 300;
    camera.shootVideo(timeToShoot);
    etc

    What I would like to see is XY film scanner using  video mode to improve resolution and dynamic range. It's only about making proper code - mechanics and optic is easy.

    I'd love it if someone to built this into an 8mm camera body and wire the trigger up to start/stop recording. The VF doesn't even need to work - or better yet, make it some kind of rangefinder.
    Also, here's the first still image from the camera (As far as I know)

    I just want a board sensor that covers 16mm and has dual pixel AF so I can hack my 16mm camera apart and replace the ground glass with a CMOS and have reliable AF on a film camera.

    Exactly. I'm think ML style digital 8 action camera. I'd make a little waterhousing for it, it would be amazing.

    Maybe a Digital Bolex D8, but maybe not.  The list of redeeming features of the digital bolex wasn't just a single item about being able to get shallow DoF.   Imagine if the ML guys decided to make an open-source camera on this platform, where anyone could develop the algorithms to process the RAW image data coming off the sensor..  @Sage or @Juan Melara having full control of the colour science, debayer algorithms, etc.  Dual exposures for high DR, and all manner of computational photography options.  Think of all the cool things that smartphone apps can do that your video camera can't do.  This could enable all that stuff and more.
    It would make a pretty good form-factor too, especially for places where it's difficult to mount anything, etc.

    I've said this multiple times on facebook and will repeat here once more – there is no concept of focus through. There's no simple way to explain why, but bottom line is – if you have squeeze on one axis, you have astigmatism, and it needs correction. "Focusing" anamorphic block is simply correcting astigmatism for that specific focus plane. Original gottshalk's patent shows the ultra panatar prismatic design in the schematics, if prismatic lenses were 'focus through' that patent would make no sense and we won't have 60 years of cinema history created by this patent. Or think about it this way – if there was such thing as 'focus-though' would any cine lens manufacturer in their right mind fiddle with any other design?
