Regarding the Red patented compressed raw problem. Could it be as simple as just not marketing it as raw? Instead calling it a “dynamic codec” or something.
Would be interesting if @CaptainHook or someone with real world knowledge of this could chime in on what make compressed raw an infringement.
i bet the line is blurry.

Just throwing this out there.
yesterday I rented and watched Venom. I noticed some red clipping in the night chase scene. More than once. None of the other colors. Reminded me of the P4K. Was shot on Arri and Red. Not sure if that was a fault of the camera or delivery.
Recently saw a black hole in a major studio production. Can’t remember which it was. It was super brief. Probably no one else noticed.

One more thing.
For better or worse I’ve decided to stop doing what everyone else is doing. Everyone wants attention. Everyone wants to build a following. Everyone wants to preach.
I want to be different. I’ve decided to do the work. I’m going to make films. If i have any success at all let it be for that. As fun as a side project would be, if it takes away from filmmaking it is simply resistance that needs to be vanquished. (As is participating in forums all day.)
You recently finished a film. Great job. Keep it up.

My 2 pennies based on no first hand experience and a decent amount of second hand experience.
- Develop a brand. Determine your niche and demo and then stick to it. Refine sure. But I think consistency is key, both in production quantity and branding. By the way, you need a draw. Personality. Cuteness. Awesomeness. Something uniqueish and engaging.
- Reach out to non competing but overlapping creators. There’s a name for this but I can’t think of it. Ask for things, help, shout outs, whatevs. The more others talk about you the quicker you’ll rise. Sometimes they’ll say no. If so ask them when they’ll say yes. They give you advice. Do it. Then ask again. Bottom line, partners are key. Do favors for them. Maybe produce a free video.

Do all of this knowing that Google or Facebook or whatever will most likely change its algorithms and screw you right when you’re making it. Bummer. From there you’re on your own.

let me explain:
i made this short at the end of last year, but I never completed the edit/fx/etc 100%. Got busy with other stuff, and I was working up my gumption to come back to it with a fresh eye.

at best, I think this is a cool example of what one person can do with a 5d3 in 2019 with no budget, crew, or resources whatsoever... as indie as it gets lolol

I think many will relate to this, as they probably had to do the same. But I made an entire feature film with the 7D. In the desert. We did not have monitors in those days. No zebras. No focus peaking. No IBIS. No autofocus. The worlds worst codec. I knew the shortcomings. Accepted them. And just did it. I honestly didn't even know better. Many times my head would be down in the hot sand trying to frame a shot looking through the little screen. You know what? I was thrilled. Before that the biggest sensor I had was 1/3". We are spoiled.
Clearly the P4K has shortcomings, but it is pretty awesome. You can focus on what it doesn't have, or you can accept the shortcomings and go create content. Or you can choose a different camera altogether.
For me it's either the P4K or the GH5. I'm loving what I see from the S1. But it will be quite a while before/if I go to that system. For now my camera is the P4K. I look at it as an amazing camera with false color and focus peaking and an amazing codec that has horrible battery life and that also happens to have a screen that I can choose to utilize, or not. I'll probably work on a power solution at some point and get one of these upcoming evf's.
It's good to point out shortcomings because it helps us make decisions. But there isn't that one camera. Never will be. You pick your horse. Accept the shortcomings. And go create content.

I would be it all in favor of a new PK4. I could also see them introducing a full frame sensor camera of some sort. Maybe also an audio field recorder as well. However I'm kind of assuming this nap is going to be all about resolve.

For me the absolute biggest problem with resolve hits me right at startup, it's their database method of file organization. This absolutely kills me. My mind just does not think in those terms and I like to create folders that contain my project files and assets and organize them in such a way and so on.
Is there anyone else like me who is used to the premiere or old school Final Cut Pro way of project file organization who has found a workaround for this with resolve? In other words I like to have a hard drive for every project. On that hard drive I have a folder for project files, one for assets, one for exports, and so on. I love the system because I can take that hard drive from one computer to the next and open the project like I never left it. Resolve puts me in a box to have all my project files on one hard drive and I really just don't think that way. I know you can export a database or something when you're all done with the project but again that's not how I work. I take the project from machine to machine that are not all connected to some big server or whatever.
Again, is there anyone who does organizes their projects like I do that has found a workaround?

Its the way the complaints are communicated that is driving me nuts. And maybe not yours, honestly I have not been keeping track. But for camera that cost $1,300 that produces the images it does to be criticize with words like sharpening halos and mojo, well, I just can't abide that.
My point is that, instead of pointing out flaws as though I'm going to receive an award for finding them, to bring them up in terms of how can we solve this or mitigated or, is there another tool I can use in situations where this particular drawback is not an issue. Negativity creates doubt and hold us back. Problem solving inspires us to move forward. This is a great forum when all our minds are solving these issues and creating workarounds for the ones we can't solve. Otherwise we end up pixel peeping and making no progress in the storytelling we all want to do.

I've just discovered the secret to success in this industry -- be very critical of the image made by any camera other than Alexa, and you are instantly a top notch dp in the class of Roger Deakins.
Here is a list of terms to help your complaints sound more legit:
- Lacks DR (dynamic range)
- Poor highlight roll off
- Contrasty
- Not contrasty
- Bad motion cadence
- Too digital
- Too flat
- Plasticy
- Too noisy
- Too clean
- Poor focus roll off
- Macro blocking
- Micro jitters
- Sucky suck suck
Now, if those alone aren't getting you the status you deserve, try these ones. They almost sound made up, but no one will ever question you and will repeat them until they become an actual thing.
- Sharpening halos
- Pixel fringing
- Quasar vignette
- Noise population ratio
- Telecentric converters
And if you find you need to take it even further, take a screenshot of footage that you put zero production value in, like a chair in a poorly lit office, magnify 300 percent, and then... wait for it......... wait for it......... draw a friggin arrow to the pixel in question.
I'll have plenty more suggestions in my upcoming mzed class...
Seriously, there is a clear world of difference between being a negative Nelly and simply recognizing a camera's pros and cons. ALL CAMERAS have pros and cons. Looking at them in those terms is about making decisions and problem solving , not complaining.

This may or may not matter for video, but it's a concern for me since I primarily shoot stills. I've seen in various group and forum that show those artifacts make it unusable. This happens in EOS R, Sony A7/R, Nikon Z series camera. Sony A9 is the only one that doesn't exhibit this with the fast read out. It's rare occurrence but it does happens.
The easy way is to follow the pack and adopt PDAF at the expense of image quality. They won't ridicule on the net anymore.
I actually think it's bold of them to adopt a non compromise approach to image quality and go against standard practice. They are constantly attack for their choice in sticking with DFD. Despite all these ridicule, I found the latest version 1 FW AF to be usable. There is no pulsating and it's fast. It focus really fast in low light and track well enough for non sport activity. If you are using it for photo, it's a non issue while have no banding issues.
Sure the AF may not be the best, but it's more than usable since it's combination of features is the closest to being a perfect camera for me. It's also one camera I've been the most excited for. I've been a Canon users only for 10 years that was interested in Sony A7III, A7RIII, A9 etc. All those camera has compromises in some way that goes beyond features.

For a $2500 S1 camera with free battery and grip, Panasonic offer a lot of class leading features. I can forgive it for not having the best AF. I'm sure they are working on FW to get it even better.
This is their first FF mirrror less camera and it shows they really tried. I have no problem supporting a camera company that gave me such a bang for my money. There is no perfect camera, but what you are willing to compromise on. This come the closest perfect camera for me.
Good grief where have I been hiding. My goodness I may have my sights set on this cam.
Z Cam E2 will have ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FPS in 4K??
