I have just finished two short videos from last year vacations. Shot with 5d3 with ML installed in raw.

These days working with ML raw is a breeze. Reqired CF cards are much cheaper than a year ago. I have 5d3 and love working with raw. I have bought 2 sandisks 128gb 160mb/s and they NEVER gave me dropped frames. Never unexpected recording stop. NEVER. It is very reliable. 128gb last for about 25min 24/25p 1080p.
    My workflow now is:
-put CF card to the reader - 2 seconds
-use  an app called MLVFS which "mounts" the files from the card and makes them virtual CDNGs - 128gb take maybe about 30 seconds
-open resolve 12 and import files - 30 seconds
Color correct, cut, do everything and export  - there is NO need for any conversions at all.
Thats it. There is some nice app, all-in-one solutions in the making right now  - called MLVProducer.
On shoot i had 4 CF cards and nextodi 2730 with 2TB HDD onboard. Archiving 128gb takes about 25min. Then i can take HDD out, plug it to the PC via sata cable and work straight from it. Memory is getting cheaper very fast. Instead of investing 2-3 thousands $ into new camera (and cry about 8bit etc) i rather buy 8 new sandisk cards for 1300$ and have 200 minutes available without a need of copying it on set.

i use sandisks extreme pro 128gb 160MB/s and they never let me down.
They write 1080p raw 24/25 fps with NO stops (from 5d3, they are much more relialiable than komputerbay 1000x which i also have but not using now). You can also continously record 50 fps raw with 2,35:1 aspect ratio (with lower vertical resolution but very usable). You can do 65 fps for about 6 seconds, you can extend this time by reducing resolution (you can set whatever you like in multiple aspect ratios). With full 1080p quality with 2.35:1 aspect you can record 10-11 seconds at 39fps.
Back to the cards - having two of them where each one gives 23-25min of footage and copying takes about the same (~70-75MB/s with CF, ~20-25MB/s with SD) gives almost continous recording. I would say that having 3 or 4 would be just perfect. And those cf cards gets cheaper and cheaper (1/3 price drop from the last year). In my nexto i can swap HDD drives very easily, it supports up to 2TB so you can take couple of these with you It has an internal battery which lasts for copying about 400-500GB but can be also powered from te wall, car lighter or cheap USB powerbank The current model ND2901 can also make the second copy to external USB 3.0 drive. How cool is that?
CFast cards are still so damn expensive and devices like nexto which supports cfast cards are over 2000$.

Of course they are, raw2CDNG, MLrawviewer, MLVProducer, MLVFS (for mounting MLVs and using "virtual" CDNGs - no need to unpack). I work on a PC and there is everything I need for comfortable work.

According to this table 5d2 can do 1856x1004 (in no-cropped mode) continously due to CF write speed limitation (75MB/s). Difference between this and 1080p shouldnt be very noticeble. 5d3 can write 100 MB/s on CF card so can do 1080p.

One of the best recent tools is MLVFS - magic lantern video file system - it is on mac and on pc. Working with raw is just a pleasure now. For small projects one can work directly from CF card.
Open CF card folder, select all mlv files, right click > quick mount (its quickly creates "virtual" filders instead of mlv files with all the cndg and wav files inside, 128gb takes 20-30 seconds). Open resolve, find the right folder and thats it - you have your clips ready. You can edit, render, color correct, you have sound, easy The same way you can import to premiere CC, edit natively or expoty xml for resolve. Current 2015 workflow doesnt require any transcoding at all. For fast preview on set i use mlrawviewer - little, useful app which works nice even on weak laptop - it directly plays mlv files with sound (you can even add luts, set WB, exposure etc). It is also possible to set in/out points and render prores 444 directly. There is some new similar app under developing (Thanks AWPStar) which will have almost full control on settings and many codecs to choose from.
Magic Lantern raw now in 2015 is really fully usable, very stable great addon. Fast CF cards and HDDs are getting cheaper so it is not an issue anymore. The only things 5d3 is missing now is 4k and higher frame rates than 30fps (maximum frame rate with raw is 67 fps  - but with reduced resolution). Every other features like peaking, zebras, great battery life (with raw recording batteries lasts longer than with h264 - no encoding processors are used) 3x cropped 1080p recording and many more are there and are fully functional. It will be very hard to someone to justify replacing full frame 14 bit raw 1080p camera for a 4k camera with highly compressed 8 bit codec. I would love the possibility of shooting in 4k but 4k raw is now in complettely different price range (media, power solutions, computer hardware etc). When you get used to raw workflow, especially now when it is really fast and easy - it would be very hard to step back.

Arri's are far too big for anything I do (Amira included).

I dislike RED as a brand and I don't have any particular love of the image.

Sony colours are not to my taste at all (F35 looks lovely but the newer CMOS stuff I find soulless).

Blackmagic image I like, but low light is an issue, as is handling (and URSA file sizes are scary).

GH4 is great but just a bit too noisy. If it's the only camera you have, low light will be an issue.

Nikon - D750 and D810 look decent but I don't think 8bit DSLR's are ever going to be enough for me as a video camera.

    Ridiculously, that leaves Canon ...

5DIII ML RAW - if I was only shooting for myself this is probably the one camera I would own. For me the image is rivalled only by Arri and Blackmagic. I just wish it had an EVF and native XX-bit codec.

Canon's 'Cinema' line - as over-priced and under-specced as it is - it really is the happy medium between everything for me. Possibly a bit more attention-grabbing in size and form than I would like, but nothing like an Amira or URSA. The C100 Mk1's issues (crap EVF, AVCHD codec and no 50/60p) are addressed with the MkII. The C100 MkII also seems to make the C300 a bit pointless. The C100 is the only 8-bit camera I know of with colours I find really satisfying. I love the image that camera produces. I guess the C300 MkII will be 4K, which doesn't matter much to me because the image is sharp already. If it has a 10-bit option though, that would make it very appealing (though it'll be way out of my budget anyway).

So my choice would be either 5D3 RAW or C100 MkII, depending on application (personal or work). I don't own any Canon cameras or glass right now, but I love the Canon image. Dynamic range is the weak area I suppose, but Zeiss optics + Canon colours is my idea of video heaven. Maybe that's why they get away with charging so much and not innovating. The secret is in the sauce ...

kgv5 got a reaction from Cosimo murgolo in 5DIII RAW Video Vs S-Log2 from A7s
Very good summary indeed, i would add also:

The 5D has up to 38 fps raw at unstretched 1080p (recorded time is limited to couple of seconds though due to buffer and card speed)
The 5D has up to 65 fps raw 1920x672 (nicely stretches to 1080p but also limited time) and gives better quality than 1080p h264 30 or 24/25p
The 5D has 48 fps raw at 1920x508 (like above but with 2,35:1 aspect ratio)  - can record almost continously

Very nice new tools (much improved in last months) for on site checking and one click processing raw like MLVrawviewer (mlv to prores).

The 5D has DUAL ISO raw recording option (stills and video, normal and crop), can record for example iso 100 (for highlights) and iso 1600 (for shadows) in the same time, there are some image issues like aliasing in over/under exposed areas (but no motion ghosting) but when needed it can give 14 stops of DR

The 5D has HDR video (h264 and raw) - when shooting in 48 or 50 fps it alternates ISO values between frames, no aliasing but motion artifacts so mostly for static shots

The 5D has auto ETTR (very useful for setting exposure fast) - it sets exposure to the right in one button click

All of the features above are from Magic Lantern of course, not from canon.
