Agreed.  If Panasonic uses an EF-mount once again (in spite of the fact that they already utilize the shallow and more versatile L-mount), that is truly something insane!

So I finally got my 6mm Pentax Cosmicar 1.2 C-Mount Lens in and decided to take it for a spin today.
It was a game changer!!!
While I was waiting for that lens to come in I was using a Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 on an EF-M converter and it was always too bright to use during the day even at f/16 and the 5x crop was horrendous, but as I hoped, everything changed and became clear and made sense once I got the Pentax 6mm.
I used the same settings as @Matt James Smith ? (thanks for the specs by the way Matt!):
6mm f/1.2 Pentax TV lens (have not yet added a shim for infinity focus)
EOSM with latest ML build
18fps override (exact)
5x zoom
4:3 aspect
1440 x 1072
I LOVE THE LOOK SOOOOO MUCH!! THE ONLY ISSUE ON THIS FIRST RUN WAS THOSE DAMNED PINK DOTS!!! I know they have been discussed on other threads, so it's time to dive deep into that issue, but for now I couldn't be happier!
Only effects are some slight dust and movement via FCPX's "Aged Film". Other than that, it's straight out of camera. Also per Matt's deduction, I have slowed all clips down to 72% duration on a 24FPS timeline in FCPX.
Here is a little vid I put together quickly from the shots I took in the Santa Barbara Harbor this morning.
 
 
So far I'm only in for $160-$170 on the build, including the body, c-mount adapter, pistol grip and Pentax Lens (which I won for a steal on eBay for $40)!

I personally use the M and the M50 for small short films like this (M50 below, with the nifty fifty). So despite some people saying that 24p is not needed, I actually need it, and I rather use such a small package camera rather than a larger or more expensive camera for these smaller film projects.
Canons have their problems, but with the VisionColor's Cinetech picture profile I get an excellent cinematic look, and more DR than Cinestyle. If only they could do proper 4k and have a 10bit codec. I tried ML a few times, but the aliasing and overheating keeps me from using it further.

It used to be. I used to be in the HV20 community forum back then, I was quite active (and a moderator). These days, it's the 5D Mkii, M50, and three EOS M. I was looking forward to upgrade to the M6 MkII, but Canon had other ideas...
I didn't want to pay almost $1100 more (kit lens, plus Fringer adapter) and not get IBIS. So basically, I see the A6400 as a cheaper, in-between camera, until an updated Fuji next year. That way at least, I have one sample each from all major manufacturers, lol...

I own 4 Canons (along a BMPCC og & 4k, and GX85) and I was looking into upgrading my Canon M50 with the M6 MkII (as a walk-around video camera). I was shocked to see no 24p in there. So instead, I pulled the trigger just last week and bought a Sony A6400 with its kit lens, and an EF/S adapter. The A6400 has its own crippled sensor with (surprisingly high) rolling shutter. But at least it provides me with the right tools to create a cinematic image, if I'm careful of how I shoot. The M6 does not. No 24p, and still no zebras, spot metering, or a log profile after all these years. So despite its own problems, the A6400 was a better buy for me. Canon lost a sure sale. And now I'm hearing about pixel binning and upscaling, which makes me happier about my decision to go Sony.
At the end, it's Fuji that it's going to win me over though, I know it in my gut. As long as they have an updated X-T3 with ibis, I'm there. I'll get their f/2.8 kit lens zoom, and the Fringer EF/S adapter, and I'll be golden for many years to come, I reckon. The last camera I'll buy for a good long while. It'd be good enough for what I need.

Their might be some settings posted in the ML 5d II thread.  Or, you could post a question in that thread on what ML settings folks tend to use.

Yep.  That's been going on for years -- even before Red existed.  One can safely assume that the above-the-line folks are clueless and cheap, when, at the outset, they stipulate that a DP must own a certain brand of camera.
 
One exception to this assumption is that they might be trying to match previous footage.  However, in that case, they are just cheap and one wonders what happened to the original DP.
 
 
The trailer (thanks, @PannySVHS!) is reminiscent of the inexpensively made, slipshod "Now" films of the mid/late 1960s.  Very cool!

Awesome. Watched the trailer first without sound, then with sound. Both worked equally well.
 

I just realized that ffplay (the ffmpeg player) will show histograms, video waveforms and vectorscopes.  Ffplay has to be one of the smaller applications that provides such capability.
 
These commands worked on my Linux terminal.  Not sure if the syntax changes slightly for the Windows command line.  Note that the word "video" in the commands should be replaced with the name of your video file (for example, my_video.mp4).
 
I saw both simpler and more complex versions of these commands when I did a web search.  If you try ffplay and have problems, please post your commands, and I will see if I can help.

Shotcut is open source, and is fairly lightweight and has histogram and waveform (apparently, no RGB parade and no vectorscope).
 
Kdenlive is also open source, and seems to offer all the important scopes.  It is probably lightweight, but not as much as Shotcut.
 
Both of these NLEs have Windows versions.
 
There are other open source NLEs and post production applications, but I am not sure what scopes are offered nor if there are Windows versions.

Let's give credit where credit is due. Had it not been for Red, we would be probably still shooting HD. Well, maybe exaggerated, but it would have taken a few more years, that's for sure. Their Red One was definitely disruptive. And gave start to many businesses, mine included. Have to admit it. Eventually I started a rental company thanks to being in the first thousand of adopters... Later it all went to Arri. Many wrong decisions on their part, imo. Anyway, I myself came full circle, and, business aside, went to get back the hobby - one man band shooting small cameras. Hence I'm reading this forum, and not reduser, etc. :). But they were pioneers of cameras which could be compared to film. Yes there was Viper, Genesis, etc. Still, the digital takeover started with Red.

There is/was an ML version for EOSM firmware 2.0.3.  ML developer Daniel Fort has a 2.0.3 ML version from January 2017 on his bitbucket download page (scroll down to "magiclantern-Nightly.2017Jan13.EOSM203.zip"),
 
 
Always make sure that your camera battery is fully charged before you attempt to install Magic Lantern.
 
 
If you would like to downgrade your EOSM firmware to 2.0.2, and then install the latest builds for 2.0.2, here is Daniel Fort's tutorial on how to downgrade Canon firmware.  It is fairly easy, once you have the firmware (.fir) file -- just reflash the firmware the same way you would flash ML (except the SD card should not have the "boot flag" enabled).

Canon doesn't seem to have the EOSM 2.0.2 firmware posted for download, but here is the link that Daniel Fort gives for most Canon firmware (scroll to the bottom of this page to find the firmware links).
 
 
The EOSM 2.0.2 firmware can also be found on this non-Canon page.  Scroll down to the firmware download link for "eosm-v202-win.zip" near the bottom of the page (it's not the "ksd291a_installer.zip" download link near the top of the page).  Windows (nor any other particular OS) is not required, once you have extracted the firmware from the zip file.
 
 
In Fort's firmware downgrade tutorial, he seems to suggest that it is very unlikely that someone would/could tamper with compressed Canon firmware files (.fir)

I have seen several new, heavily promoted features in Photoshop declared as breakthroughs that actually appeared years before in GIMP and other open source imaging software.
 
I also don't see much difference between Lightroom and Darktable (and Raw Therapee).  If Lightroom has an advantage, please let me know.
 
In regards to NLEs, I don't usually use a lot of fancy plugins, but there are certain features that I find in open source NLEs that I can't find in Premiere or other proprietary software (and I would avoid using proprietary software, regardless).

Mathieu Stern is one of my favorite YouTubers because he collects weird/old lenses and adapts them to use on mirrorless cameras. My Papa used to have this same camera so this was so cool to see! I actually think it produces a really elegant or ethereal image. Good stuff! 
Anyway many of you are probably aware of Mathieu but for those that aren't I figured I'd share!
