YouTube 60fps
In: Cameras
Here is Hobbit:BoFA trailer in 60fps, for me it just looks like cheap tv show, no magic at all.

Hello, in summer I worked in Denmark, and I took some pictures there. I had old Canon 350d with kit lens, but I'm pleased with the results (unfortunately aperture mechanism in the lens was broken, I had to shoot wide open = only short exposures during day) . I just finished editing, and I'd like to share my work with you.
P.S I spend my money from Denmark on GH4 :) and Canon FD glass.

nahua, MOV and mp4 are just containers, both use h.264 codec. If you'd like to know more about codecs, here is very good post "Everything You Need to Know About Codecs" from Bloom's site.

It's very easy to spot if you know what to look for: look at the bokeh (background blur).
Thank you!

Ok guys, can anyone explain me how to tell a difference between anamorphic and non-anamorphic shot, when there isn't any lens flare? Do you really know when something was shot with anamorphic optics? (I'm not against it, I just don't have experience)

I have to know... Since the Tokina 11-16 is an APS-C lens, will it work on this? From what I read it has an EF-S mount?
It will work just fine, if you have canon mount, it's ef not ef-s.

enjoy.
edit: I just saw, that Andrew put it on twitter.

Doesn't outputting 10 bit disable in-camera recording? So if recording 10 bit to a Ninja Star you would have no way of reviewing your footage bc the Star doesn't have a screen... this seems rather annoying. Am I thinking about this wrong?
good point!

Hi guys, could you do the following for me (right now i don't have my computer for some time) take this sample 10bit 422 footage, color grade it quite haviliy (but not to the point when it brakes), export. Then exoprt the same (ungraded) sample to something 8bit (e.g h.264), than apply the same amount of grading, export. (or maybe there's a simpler way to do it). I'd like to see the difference. Thanks in advance.

Hi Matthew. The colours look superb and low light performance impressive. But I think perhaps your 4K video is a better case for using a 1080 Ninja than Jacob's clip! 12GB for 2 min and a rig that makes smooth panning impossible is not something I need in a hurry! ;)
Do you think there are any benefits re. low light performance (or anything that isn't resolution for that matter) in recording 4K 10bit externally instead of downsampling 4K directly to a 1080 Ninja? It looks like you work for Panasonic - it would be very interesting to hear your take on this.
Hi Matt, I'm not Matthew, I just posted this link from vimeo ;)

2000$.
Thanks. But a solution that cost 2x more than my camera and lens doesn't look very justifiable at the moment. Is there a rumoured price for the Shogun?

Here is 10bit 4k example (external). I can upload original file (downloaded from vimeo, 12GB) to copy.com if anyone is interested.

Jacob Neilsen posted this 10 bit footage from GH4 + Ninja Blade via Dropbox (see EOSHD's GH4 Review comments thread, page 3):
https://www.dropbox....est footage.mov
I put it into FCPX and pushed it around a bit and was amazed (never worked with 10 bit before though!). I think it looks absolutely stunning - particularly the 2nd shot of the girl with the chair.
Andrew, I don't follow every thread in this forum, but I think that this is information anyone (shooting with GH4) should know. Do you cover it in the GH4 guide? Or - do you sometimes update your guides? My point is - I'd like to know wheter I have to read everything here or not :P

This could have been near perfect except for two, maybe three, showstoppers.
1. Lousy 28mbps bit rate for 1080P
2. No in-built ND filter (tiny cameras like the Ricoh GR and RX100m3 can accommodate one).
3. Panasonic need to stop living in the 70's and do away with this NTSC/PAL mentality. Why are they still doing one lot of bodies with NTSC frame rates and a different lot with PAL rates. This is BS!
I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the EU taxes.

Why does the video say it is the world's first in 4K video recording? And OIS except in 4K video? That is a bit disappointing.
* For a digital compact camera.
And it does 100fps :) in 1080p.

Rolling shutter, to a point, is acceptable for me and will not hold me back from the camera.
The "point" is somewhere around the 5D's rolling shutter.
Though, If it's worse than the 5D (something like their AX100 4K mode, which makes you "unable" to move the camera) it will be a severely severe limitation for the camera, and might be my dealbreaker. Hope it's acceptable!concerning rolling shutter

Can someone explain me, why those pros still use film cameras? Most people don't see the difference between digital and film, so why spent money on stock? Is it dynamic range, colors or what?

GH2 on BBC

Nice video, but there's a lot of artifacts.

Here is their response:
"Please be advised that international distribution of the film "Warsaw Uprising", due to the policy of international film festivals, will take place at the earliest in the first quarter of 2015."
-
Wow it looks amazing, but I can't find anywhere at my local movie theater. Where did you watch it?
Well, I'm from Poland, it was released recently here. I asked the authors whether it will be distributed outside my country or not. I'm waitng for reply.

I just came back from the theater, and I'm blown away... This unique footage looks so incredible on the big screen. It's a must see for every film-lover. I just couldn't get used to the fact, that every single frame of this movie was from real events, I saw real people, real smiles, tears, deaths. it was heartbreaking.
They made a tremendous amount of work, bringing this footage to life by grading and sound mixing every clip.
Website info: the world’s first non-fiction war drama made entirely from authentic newsreels filmed in August 1944 in Warsaw.you can watch trailer here but believe me - in theater it looks much better then on youtube.
and here color correction and sound mixing

Hi jnorman34, here is great thread (from bloom's forum) explaining why camcorders are more convenient for video work (but it's about more expensive options than XA20, sony nx30). Of course if one wants great quality for cheap, there's no other option, but DSLRs (including mirrorles cameras). Go for GH4 and lenses Ebrahim Saadawi mentioned, you will get the sharpest possible image in that (and higher) price range.

Cool story, thanks for the link!
GH4 Timelapse from Norway
In: Cameras
Posted
Hello everyone! Few days ago I finished editing my last short timelapse video. I put a ton of work into this (shot last year, edited in 9 months, just because I couldn't focus on in completely). Edited in ACR and Premiere Pro. Opening title in AE.
Please read the video's description for camera info. Almost every shot is done in silent/electronic shutter mode, works like a charm for timelapses. I have some complaints about camera, I'll post it if anyone will be interested, but other than that, it is a great little tool!
