liork got a reaction from Ivanhurba in Panasonic GH5 - all is revealed!
With the A7s you can shoot iso 25,600 with not much problem, the GH5 cannot touch it.

liork reacted to Don Kotlos in Dolby Vision said 4:4:4 ideal but depends on grading
I think the more limiting factor would be the much smaller colorspace of GH5 compared to the Rec2020 that is used for Dolby vision. Then the limited dynamic range and bit depth would follow (yes 10 bit for dolby vision is not enough look at their white paper) . Somewhere there I guess you should see the limitations of 4:2:2.
Here is the white paper for more info: https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologies/dolby-vision/dolby-vision-white-paper.pdf
But it will be interesting to see how the Hybrid Log-Gamma fairs to VlogL.

liork reacted to Andrew Reid in GH5 sensor larger than GH4?
Just shows how much room there is to expand the sensor if they wanted to.

liork got a reaction from jonpais in Olympus E-M1 II mini-review - a sign of things to come with the Panasonic GH5?
So, who likes the X T2 color better and who prefer the Olympus? Let me guess...

The camera has normal size micro 4/3 senser, accept it...

Man this camera sounds so good. A true video workhorse with 12 stops of DR, improved RS and an excellent codec. All for less than £1700 (almost half the price of a C100 II and a third of an FS5). Neumann's sample footage is stunning. Really looking forward to owning one of these.

Jonpais, its nothing to do with cameras, just psychology… some people just waste their lives unsatisfied.

Because you don't read what Panasonic write "6K PHOTO is a high speed burst shooting function that cuts a still image out of a 4:3 or 3:2 video footage with 18-megapixel".
The sensor does not have 6K pixels width.

4K in GH5 is already down sampled from full sensor. 6K photo will offer only 4:3 and 3:2 ratio, not 16:9.

liork reacted to Cinegain in GH5 Prototype
Don't know where someone said that Sony, Fuji or Oly performs less than a Panasonic. I guess we can all agree that they've always been a little behind on juicyness of the image; just can't squeeze as much out of a smaller sensor, simple as that. But that's not the point. It's being completely oblivious to that and going with it anyways, because it's by far a more productive camera and arguably the better value. Panasonics are workable and you can get some really lovely results with them. Being more attracted to the GH5 than the X-T2, E-M1 Mark II or A6500, doesn't make you a fanboy anything, so I don't really get the 'being attacked, defend!'-mode. Doesn't mean you think the image trumps all else. Just means you really like what it does nontheless and have the confidence that you can make it work. And remember not everyone has the resources to pull off a two camera inventory.

As Panasonic already wrote, 6K photo will be available in 3:2 and 4:3 only and not in 16:9 as 4K photo is.

There are some examples of the hacked NX at the NX sub-forum. Even Samsung's early (and rather "weak") H265 implementation, is great for live performances and other byte consuming jobs.
There is always the option of 160/180 even more, Mbps which grades better and holds more information. The codec is not that great though, because Samsung probably used a very basic one (do not forget that was back in 2014).
In anyway, H265 will be the future for the next multiple K generations (I think it supports up to 8K?) and that's it was created by the same H264 consortium.

Sorry bro! Wish it was true tho! Now I'll still be tempted to give the E-M1 Mark II a spin first.
(Have both the GH4/E-M1 now anyways, one's excellent for video production style shooting, the other is a photography workhorse; might replace both with their respective successor)

But we don't know the codec yet, maybe it will be some h.265?
