Although this year we have a fellow Greek in the Oscars, for me they are dead since the LALA land disaster.
If you witnessed this mega cringe where they had the whole cast on stage thinking they had won and then they took them all down...i dont want to watch the oscars again.
The second problem is the PO overdrive, where they put films like "WE WUZ KANGS" aka Black panther contesting for best pictures, and all the PO bs where people get nominated because "me too" or because they are minority.

Now, the Academy has been accused of a lot of things. Prejudices against black people. Prejudices against women.
Their latest decision shows they're also seemingly prejudiced against cinematographers, film editors, short-film directors and make-up artists - all awards they have dumped to get the live TV ceremony under 3 hours. Or rather, to shove a few extra ad-breaks into the TV coverage.

elite video player and private hosting is a solution.
    https://codecanyon.net/item/elite-video-player/10013114
we can host in googledrive or MEGA, and link the the player directly embeded in our websites.
that way you are not putting your work in the whim of greedy executives

You beat me to it Andrew, I was thinking of starting a thread on leaving VIMEO,  after 164 video uploads being a paid member since 2011 they send me dmca notices and some threatening messages of this type:
    > " You have 5 minutes to download your video due to a copyright strike" sent in the dead of night I am in Greece by the way 7 hours time difference from NY.
    >If you do not wish to contest the strikes but are seeking access to your other videos, we are able to place your account into Temporary Access Mode. This will restore your account in a limited capacity for 72 hours so that you are able archive your videos.
However, there are a few caveats:

    1) You may only be granted access if you are not filing a formal counter-notification regarding the strikes on your account.
    2) We can only provide 72 hours of access. Since this is automated, we cannot extend the access period. Any content that wasn’t downloaded may be lost.
    3) The videos will be restored with a restricted privacy setting. They will be locked and only available to you for archival purposes. They will not be publicly available.
    4) Per our repeat infringement policy, you may not open any additional Vimeo accounts
So for 3 songs that were in some ancient videos long forgotten not embedded anywhere, one of them Private, they actually HOLD HOSTAGE another 160 videos,.I talked to them and they had the courtesy to allow me to download them over a week but i have to sign off any rights over that..i have left the account in Limbo
What I see is that they are driving out  all the small creators that used to be the paying backbone of Vimeo, they killed the FORUM where voices of members were heard and they are turning VIMEO into a stock footage video gallery (eeeeek).
In the meantime WISTIA is way expensive 100 bucks per month, youtube is a temporary solution..

I believe the majority of film makers are interested on a place to build their portfolio collection. So with the same money that Vimeo asks, you can share a dedicated server with 2-3 persons and build your portfolio there. Then you can enjoy many benefits like better speeds, reliability and a player of your choice. At least this what i 'll do. Vimeo sucks anyway and DMCA regulations are here to stay. It will only get worse from here.

I had the exact same experience. I shoot weddings for a living and after having 2 strikes with the threat of having everything removed upon the 3rd strike, I opted to go into 2018 uploading everything to YouTube instead. About 2 months ago, I received my 3rd strike on a video I had uploaded 4 years ago and my whole video archive was deleted. I still had to re-upload previous 2017 and 2016 projects to YouTube, but at least all my 2018 files were already safe. I'm just bummed I've put money into Vimeo and they wrecked my shit.

Edit: All that to say, heed Andrew's warning, because it can and will happen. It's just a matter of time.

Buh bye! Tomorrow I will start to pull all my videos from Vimeo and transfer them to another platform.
That's not because playback performance remains a problem after half a decade.
It's because Vimeo cannot even assure the safety of my account any more.
It could be deleted at any moment.

us being born at internet BC and our kids being born with the internet as a "nanny" at internet A.D., my son doesn't watch tv. I have limited his access to youtube after the daddy finger crossover Dino crossover Lighting mcqueen autism inducing videos drive him insane as mentioned above. We filter the crazy, its sad that the next generations view these things as tame. Not at all shocking anymore

If you've ever suffered 5 minutes of Youtube Kids, your "algorithm" statement is completely correct.  Watch Sonic the Hedgehog drive Lightning Mcqueen off a skyscraper 1500 feet onto a farting velociraptor with breasts and Don Johnson loafers...  while "Daddy Finger" repeats in the background.
I kind of hate that social media has given literally everyone a voice when I see Logan Paul as an example.  -Since feeling special and accepted is an ingrained part of every human being's natural make-up, social media, Youtube, etc.. - keeps us buried in our phones, constantly seeking value in "likes" and whatever trivial bullshit virtual currency there is.  It's a breeding ground for ill-advised priorities and narcissism.   Even if it’s just subscribing, you’re piggy backing a sense of community for the almighty motive - attention.  Everything is literally based on attention.  It drives the motive of most media "outrage" these days with a voice that says "Judge this motherf---er.  It's trendy."   or some idiot's default response to go full LiveLeak on a dead body.
    F'king Nightcrawler.  He's done.

Keeps mentioning 5000$, but it is more than 10.000EUROS in Europe at the moment. They will sell much less in EU with those prices.
Outstanding image for light RAW, slow motion is VERY soft, that was a bit unexpected (to that degree).
Hey, they turned @Mattias Burling metaphor to a reality, their C200 exploded!!
