what his videos scream out is that the camera and the lens he is using are the least important aspect in the whole production.  His resources are likely spent elsewhere; socialising with fellow creatives, travelling and subconsciously scouting locations, living a cultured French lifestyle - he probably has parents who are also artistic or creative.  Writing, reading, watching independent cinema.
 
I imagine he's a guy who would decline an alexa 4:3 and a set of round fronts because it would hinder his apparent efficiency and holistic working process to film making.
 
I'd also hazard a guess Kendy won't even have realised he had a staff pick award or the notice a boost in vimeo plays thanks to this topic on eoshd.
 
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum we have the forum culture who are driven by the technology side of things.  Resources spent on things like:-
electricity, regularly upgraded computers and camera gadgets, socialising with other tech driven people in an artificial social environment, sitting at a computer desk rather than viewing the world, writing (forum posts), reading (forum posts), watching camera test videos rather than real films.
 
 
Obviously there are half way housers who are interested in both creativity and technology but ultimately having the technology and consuming taking up valuable time is going to impact on the pure creative aspect.

This will be THE video camera for doing sex tapes :)

Though I get what you're saying, As per your example, I don't think anyone in there right mind would shoot a sprawling desert landscape with razor thin DOF wide open. You want to see that beautiful location. Those shots required all to be in focus, but many shots don't. Its a matter of both style choice, mood, directing and subject. All these tools need to be used within a narrative... most of the tests we see aren't a part of any storyline, and are more just stylistic tests.

I will  be making extensive posts on lenses.... new... old, vintage... cheap and expensive and what their main good points are and how to get the best out of them.
And also some useful articles on general lens use that will help improve your shooting and make things more dare I say more 'cinematic' and less 'video' which seems to be what alot are asking for.

Let's be brutally honest. Of all the videos in the Screening Room, only, say, ten impressed me at all.  My own stuff would also go unnoticed, for it isn't any better.
 
A contest could be a good way to focus our ambitions. Set a motto, a subject, set a date, when all films have to be online on the same day (not earlier, not later). Create a poll for ten days (or so). Allow people from outside EOSHD to vote (don't know how, perhaps via facebook?).

Never said you get paid to promote, or that you get free gear to test and keep, or any kickbacks or favors or any kind, did I? I said none of us actually know what the real motivation of any person running any site that tests and promotes gear. So, unless it's a user telling us about gear they bought for themselves and want to report how the gear is performing for them in real life situations, then we really don't know much about the gear until it is out in the wild. 
 
Andrew, you have a way of turning a perfectly reasonable response into something offensive. Are you aware of that? If so, is it intentional? If so, what is it exactly that you gain from it?
 
Anyhow, if I didn't value your reports and tests, I wouldn't bother with frequenting your site. I appreciate the time you take, but I take all "review/promo" site opinions with a healthy grain of salt until I've read data from users who've spent their own cash and are using the gear in their livelihood. Until then, it's very nice to have previews from folks like yourself who're blessed to have early access to all the gear and evidently don't have to keep forking over their own hard earned moo-lah.
 
Cheers, and thanks for the advance on the GH4. It is looking like what I'll eventually end up with after all the actual user data is in and the other competitors have played their hands.

1. I don't think as far as specs go at the price point anything will come close to the GH4. Hell I think it's better than the 1DC as far as specs go. With the speed booster the crop factor shouldn't be too much of a difference either. I am super stoked about it as I could probably buy the GH4 with a 12-35 2.8 or a Speedbooster and Sigma 18-35 1.8 in what it would cost just to buy a 5D3 body or 2 of them with lenses for the price of a C100. (A camera who's form factor and ergonomics I love)

People should learn to deal with criticism.  Just because I disagree and have remarks about your methodology when testing, doesn't make me a troll.  If you post something on a public forum, learn to live with people making remarks.
 
Even with the new upload your way of testing makes no sense.
 
You should match exposure, not the ISO value a certain camera manufacturer assigned to a certain exposure. As we all know, 1600 ISO means something else for Canon than for Pana since they use different sensors.
 
Right now, the GX7 footage is borderline overexposed.  The 5D almost underexposed.
Any conclusions you're trying to draw from these shots is invalid.
 
I have no problems with people doing their own kind of testing, but if you're going to share your "test" with people and expect serious feedback, then maybe post something serious to begin with.
 
If you wanted to test noise levels at a certain ISO, you could have shot footage of both cameras with both lens caps on. That will give you the most accurate idea of noise levels and native ISO.

If you were paying for features then you would have a better spec than the C100 for your $5k.
 
You are paying for the fact the C100 is perfectly suited to commercial work. The people it is for can all afford it and justify the investment. There's no point being upset about that either. We have some nice options now for cheaper.
 
Let's not pretend we are paying $5000 for a built in ND filter though.

Do it. The PC you build for 2K today will be much much faster than your 2009 MacPro.
