@leo 25 frames per second and the perfect moment happens when you are changing the memory card ;) Photography is photography.

Zach Ashcraft reacted to ImageMaker in Panasonic GH4 pricing official - $1698 body only, $1998 for the external 10bit / XLR box
Not to hijack the thread, but that is an erroneous statement. A better way of putting it would be, the gh4 does a lot of things better then the c100, however it also DOESN'T do a lot of things better than the c100. For instance, Light an interview properly, setup both cameras and the end result will give the nod to the c100. Better yet, set the gh4 to 4k mode for that interview and transcode the full image to 1080(because that is what you will need to match the detail level of the non de-bayered canon) and after changing the memory card about 10 times and going through the headaches of backing up, transferring, transcoding that kind of data, I would still say the C100 would result in a more pleasing final image. Just so folks know, I'm not talking about data rates, dynamic range or actual resolution when I refer to image detail. Unlike what most other cameras are doing, Canon's cinema line does not de-bayer the raw image stream the same way most dslr, gh3, gh4, 5d, fs700, bmcc, bmpc does.
The c100 also gets a nod when examining the efficiency overall (built in xlr, neutral density, battery life, s35 sensor) and let's not forget some pretty spiffy low light performance :)
For a portable 4k aquisition tool, and cost, huge thumbs up for the GH4! For interviews, documentary work, events, weddings, large volume broll shooting. Big thumbs down. Not that it couldn't work for those demographics, but I see the c100 as an efficient tool that really does make life a lot easier for a lot of filmmakers. 2 different tools meant for different things I guess

Zach Ashcraft reacted to fuzzynormal in Canon say: "We need to respond to calls for DSLR video quality increase"
The 180 degree shutter/frame rate thing is a rule of thumb, not a requirement.
You can shoot a high speed shutter on motion picture footage and remove motion blur. I seem to recall a little film that E.T. director guy made about the Normandy Invasion... kinda popular, used high speed shutter.

Zach Ashcraft reacted to Inazuma in Cook Picture Styles
Why don't you picture for a moment that I am an extremely busy man that doesn't have time to read through the thousands of words you have written on that page. And just tell me why you have started an indiegogo for a product that has already been finished and can be released without any need for fund raising?

Zach Ashcraft reacted to Andrew Reid in Hands-on preview of the powerful 4K shooting Panasonic GH4!
Based on a pre-production model
Since the GH1 I have been shooting with Panasonic's mirrorless system for video. Without this series of affordable cameras my early work as a cinematographer and filmmaker simply wouldn't be the same. The GH4 marks a much needed major leap for the line, the first to shoot 4K to an efficient internal codec AND output 10bit 4:2:2 1080p over HDMI to an affordable external recorder like the Atomos Ninja!
On a visit to Panasonic I got to see the camera, see 4K sample footage and give my feedback. Here's an account of what I saw...

Wowza... you don't think there are ANY artists here? None?
I agree. This is a gear forum. Can't an artist also be a gear head? Or does that not fit into your rather limited view?

Zach Ashcraft reacted to Andrew Reid in Is Panasonic GH4 going to change the industry?
Bullshit. I have seen for my own eyes putting more powerful equipment in the hands of aspiring filmmakers does inspire them, does improve their cinematography and does allow them to get noticed. This community wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the gear.
You won't know any of my work if it wasn't for this platform, which is based on the gear.
Let's knock this content is king nonsense ON THE HEAD permanently from now on. OK?

Zach Ashcraft reacted to Andrew Reid in Cooke Panchro/i PL Cinema Lenses - first look
You do have a point actually, because most cinema lenses are used stopped down to T5.6!
With 4K I will be stopping down more often than not because if your focus is off even by a small amount, people will notice with that kind of resolution on screen.
But the T2.0 aperture of the bigger S4s is another option, because the look of a fast aperture is quite different still - it's not all about low light. With the Cooke stuff and Hollywood, price doesn't really come into the equation so much as outright performance. Even the most expensive lenses and camera equipment are small change for the film industry as a whole compared to other costs. The T2.0 aperture is the important bit for them. Don't forget in the days of film (still with us) cinematographers didn't have the sensitivity they do with digital either!

I hope many BMPCCs will pop up on ebay. Cheap, useless, obsolete BMPCCs.

Zach Ashcraft reacted to Rungunshoot in Sony RX10 test - Xmas in Chinatown
Just got a loaner of this camera for testing purposes. Took it out around Chinatown for some street shooting.
Camera is very sharp, very convenient in good light. 24-200mm f/2.8 is a dream and produces nice-looking bokeh. Haven't tested it in poor light yet. Haven't tried 60p either.

I am really liking the size of the GM1. The low light noise performance is amazing (better than my GH3).
Here it is with a hoodman attached, it just fits!

Zach Ashcraft reacted to Danyyyel in C100 vs 5D3 Raw as a business investment
Nearly completely shot on the C100, I think that if someone cannot do nice film with the C100, then no matter what technology he uses won't make a difference.

Zach Ashcraft reacted to QuickHitRecord in How to make a living making videos
From where I stand, I believe that making a living in this industry comes down to being willing to share credit and to take criticism, having a willingness to learn regardless of your experience level, and going out of your way to make the life of the person that hired you a little easier.
Also, punctuality and responsiveness to emails.
These are the kinds of people that I want to hire (and be hired by).

Zach Ashcraft reacted to Ben Prater in Canon 70D no improvement in video quality over 60D
70d is definitely a new sensor.
I've watched a bunch of 70d video -- and I generally like the video images it is producing.
Pair that with the amazing auto-focus -- and I think you have a camera that an average person can use to create some really great video.
