You seem like a good intentioned guy Zach (and you've got a great name!) but I think you're making a big deal out of nothing here buddy. He just wanted a little advice on cameras for a particular situation, and he was given it. No need to go on an artistic-merit rant!

Just received the RX100IV today and I'm dang excited to create some things with it. I had the mark 1 and despite its limitations, had lots of fun shooting with it.
I created a 15 second instagram video at work today just as a means to try out the 4K mode. I was in a hot warehouse in Texas right next to an open door. After 1 take, it began to display the overheat symbol. After two takes, it told me to let the camera cool and shut off. Switching to 1080p mode and I was just fine.
This is by no means an A Camera, but I do think it is an absolutely incredible creative tool. Its so versatile! The 4K is sharp and clean, and the image grades well. This particular short was shot in  Picture Profile 4 and graded with film convert to add a lot of punch. I'll continue to share my thoughts and include more video after I've had more of a chance to shoot with it.
General light coming from a nearby open door. A bit of spot from below added by a pair of Lumos Trip Pro LED's. Cinevate Duzi V3 slider.

I enjoy being a part of this community, and would love to hear more about the films you are creating and/or are wanting to create.
What do you think are your biggest obstacles to creating the content you want to be creating, if you aren't making it already?
I'll start - I started with documentary work for a non-profit, shooting on a canon t2i. After about 2 years of weddings I've wanted to move to bigger documentary projects and commercial work. My biggest struggle having not gone to film school has been connecting with other filmmakers to collaborate with, though i'm making more friends with each project I work on.

Your whole site is very inspiring (some links don't work). I congratulate you for actually being in 'the business' and still choosing what you like. I envy you for that. Best wishes.

Which likely had massive amounts of resolution and dynamic range compared to a 1080p camera. Not a great example.

Looks great! This reminds me so much of the VHS tapes Nintendo used to mail out in the 90s featuring whatever new games were hitting the market.

Can you talk about the picture profile you used with the C100? Curious to know what you started with. We just picked up a Mark 2 at work and have got a little left over. Considering a Ninja star

quick update before the full test:
Overheating seems to be less in FF mode. I've reached the 30 minute mark without a heat warning in FF mode, whereas in S35 mode heat warning was reached at about 15 minutes and the camera shut down at 20 minutes. IBIS was on for FF test, but camera was resting on the table.

We had a lot of fun making this one, three people in crew in total and a £500 budget for all the extras (props location etc) the kit is our own
Animation took a long time, and VHS style was tough to build! Happy to answer questions on production if anyone is interested!

Actually 8bit and 10bit is inferior to my needs. I need at least 64bit color, 25 stops dynamic range, 16,000,000 ISO and a very compact full frame 14-600mm IS lens with 20 aspherical elements and F0.001 aperture. I'll just light the images in post. Images will surely look great based on these specs!

    Hello everybody!
Today I recorded a number of test scenes trying to cover as many of the video modes as possible (i've checked the different pictures profiles both in FF and S35 mode as well as the various 1080p speeds all the way up to 120fps).
I'm gonna try to put together a video tonight (there's a lot of material!) but for now i've uploaded two clips straight off the card for you guys to check, both 4K, same scene, one is in FF mode and the other one in S35.
    Settings as follows:
    - Slog2/Sgamut (detail -7)
    - ISO800 (minimum iso for Slog2 on the a7rII)
    - WB Cloudy
    - Sony/Zeiss FE4/16-35 @ 24mm/f8

ps. ignore the file date, i just realised i set the camera clock two days behind!!
here's the link to download the clips: http://we.tl/xNEDXe3WId

First impressions are generally positive: the camera feels very well in the hand (massive improvement over the a7s design) everything went smoothly, (although the software feels just a tiny bit slower than on the a7s but it's the first revision so it still might need to be polished a bit) the camera gets quite a bit warm during 4k recording but didn't have any problems (to be honest London is quite chilly at the moment which may helps!) :-)
Power consumption seems on par with the a7s, the EVF is wonderfully massive and bright, not a big fan of the new locking mode dial (you have to keep the centre button pressed to be able to turn it, i prefer the GH4 design where the dial can be left lock or unlocked)
In order to record 4K video you need a UHS Speed Class 3 SD card otherwise you get a warning on the LCD. (i've used a Transcend W95/R60 64gb and it recorded perfectly)
Last but certainly not least it is finally possible to assign the movie record to a custom button of your choice, REJOICE!!! :-)
Thanks for reading, have a good evening everybody!

Awesome. I actually just got a C100 Mark II partly b/c of the Dual Pixel AF. I needed a camera that was "pick-up-and-go" with a good image for about half of the jobs that I do. The Dual Pixel AF is unbelievable! Good to see Magic Lantern working hand-in-hand with it.

The AF is wonderful. Image isn't far off C100 Mark II at ISO 400 either, but raw baby!

    Full frame vs APS-C mode.
    High ISO.
    Rolling shutter.
Color rendering in all available color matrices.
    Resolution.
Over/under exposure test. See how the sensor/codec responds to bringing up underexposed footage and bringing down overexposed footage.

Highlight/shadow rolloff. See how the camera renders a normally exposed scene with one or two very dark shadows and another with one or two bright highlights.

I just bought this camera used with 33k clicks and 2 OEM batteries for $4300 USD.  It won't be here until next week - was hoping if anyone has a link to downloadable 4096x2180 "straight out of the camera" footage I'd appreciate it.
Bloom had some on his site, as well as Planet 5d, but the links have long been removed.  Figures once the camera hits my affordability all the links are gone!

Yes, I've been searching Google and this site for about 1/2 hour.  Tough to find footage that is untouched straight out of the camera.
    Thanks all! Shawn

This camera has really been flying under the radar and not getting much love. The dynamic range is really high up there. dxomark its at 14.5 in RAW photo mode. But in video mode with the Flat profile I've run some test with ND lighting gels and a light meter and was easily 12.5-13 usable stops, more so in the shadows. Not to mention for being 8bit files  color correction is so easy in resolve. Though I do miss my 5D Magic Lateran RAW for that, but not all the headache came with working with that hack. Rolling shutter, what Rolling Shutter? For being full frame sensor its very impressive, takes a lot to show up. Morie and antialiasing, only once with very specific set up of distance, sharp lens, and certain fabric could I get it to do it. Its actually really hard to make it happen, and I took a raw still at the time and it showed up as well in the RAW 24 mega pixel photo, so it had nothing to do with crappy down scaling. Just that the fabric, lens sharpens, and distance hit the sensor mega pixels frequency.

Here is some sample shots from a short film I shot last month. Vimeo and youtube are terrible to judge the video file. Id recommend downloading the original clip. I also shot it all of it on DNXHD 10bit on my Ninja 2 recorder. It actually does make a difference in quality and color grading to use an external recorder. Also the internal files are half the size of 5D and 7D but nikon did there homework and they are still far cleaner and sharper.
