Would be funny if the Z-mount Komodo gets launched as NIKOMODO.

Or, maybe (TI guy thinking problem) there is some serious issues with the firmware on the cameras and there are some processes causing memory leaks or going wild.

The biggest problem of the camera was not tackled yet - specially for video.

Since all the previews are on the "is pre-production, wait for the final review" mantra, battery life was not really mentioned much.

They made a newer IBIS, kinda smaller than the previous, hence the power consumption might be lower. But...I had tha X-S10, with the same smaller battery, and it had the worst battery life that I've known. On one instance, I've shot around 45 stills, then recorded around 18 minutes of 4k...one battery gone. For semi-pro use, 4 batteries in a day was almost certain.

There is another factor to consider (and it connects to the overheating video from Undone): there are two 4k modes on this camera, as in the X-T5. The "regular" 4k mode is not oversampled - it have some kind of line skipping / pixel binning. The image quality is worse (not VERY worse, but noticeable for trained eyes), but it requires less processing (and probably generetes less heat). The 4k HQ mode is oversampled, and uses a mild crop.

All the battery tests for video that I saw used non-HQ 4k video, in this case the battery life does not look so bad. But I could bet that with 4k HQ mode, camera in Boost mode and with IBIS, the battery would be chewed.

For the main targeted users, probably will not be a huge issue. But if the intended use for vídeo is a bit more than short takes, probably will be.

Well, I was a m43 user, but moved on since I saw the writing on the wall (until now, my predictions are 100% accurate).

My 2 cents is my current camera: Fujifilm X-S20. A EVF hump bigger than the GX85 (which I had, and loved), IBIS (not amazing, but better than none), very good AF (much better than the Gen4 Fujis, and there is a firmware update on the way to improve it and give touch-tracking in video), 10 bit 4-2-2, and using Flog or Flog2 the DR comparison to a GX85 is enormous.

Size of the system is a bit larger than m43, but lenses still smaller than FF. The Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 is almost glued to my camera - very good image, diminutive size (shpuld be the blueprint for future m43 zooms, but...).

I think I droned out these exact same thoughts in the G9ii or some similar thread about MFT but I'll repeat them anyway 🙂
In terms of a new camera, I honestly think its time to give up on Panasonic producing that specced up GX85 that everybody knows they could make if they wanted to.
In the absence of the "new" Olympus not doing anything to move the MFT story along either in terms of a compact then something like the A6700 is that camera now.
As well as being a larger sensor, it ticks every box of what is being asked for in terms of being dual native ISO, 10bit 4:2:2 internal, IBIS, class leading AF, LOG and a very good out of the box profile in S-Cinetone.
Very flexible mount in that it can even take your MFT manual focus lenses and has very good options like the Meike EF>E which will give you full AF of Canon lenses with the bonus of variable ND.
In terms of native lenses, there are a lot more E mount options now compared to when, say, the GX85 launched and it is seeing more releases every month unlike MFT which is slowing now.
The writing was on the wall when Sigma expanded their compact f1.4 prime lineup with the 56mm and didn't release an MFT version.
Their two compact contemporary f2.8 zoom lenses are also not available in MFT of course.
Size wise there isn't anything in it from the front and the GX85 is actually a fraction bigger.

The A6700 is deeper but most of that is attributable to the chunky grip which, to me, is no bad thing as the GX85 is not chunky enough for me and the A6700's incorporates a dial too.

Price wise, it is a lot more expensive than the GX85 was on launch but so is everything else now and it is significantly cheaper than Panasonic's latest MFT camera, the G9ii.
The virtual shark jumping price of the G9ii makes me suspect that even if Panasonic did produce a new specced up GX85 that it would likely be at least as expensive as the A6700.
If you want to be closer spiritually to a combo of the GX85 and OG Pocket then, if you embrace the quirks, the Sigma Fp is well worth a consideration particularly as the used prices are dropping.

Personally, I'd add the EVF-11 as it is so much nicer to shoot with whilst at the same time you can remover it and leave it in your pocket if you need to go smaller. The tilt action of the EVF enables you to press the camera to your chest to offer a lot more stability when handholding.
That is important because you lose IBIS of course but you gain RAW and, as with the AF of the Fp, the internal 8 bit 4K is far more serviceable than people give it credit for and if you only need HD then its 12 bit internal.
As with the EVF, the modularity means that if you want more capability in terms of bit depth then you can add it easily and discreetly.
The Fp has largely been forgotten/written off by an awful lot of people around the world but in Japan, in particular, there is some absolutely lovely imagery being uploaded to YouTube every week from it.

Everyone over their 40s will be using Olympus but not in the ways that first they thought.

But when using a Olympus colonoscope probably one will think very hard about wide aperture. 😆

Still resisting, only a Smallrig half case for the X-S20 - just to prevent bottom mark to when I (maybe) sell it in some years.

Of course, when you are restrained, temptations rains from everywhere. Was looking for almost 2 years to find a Olympus Pen F (because it is the most gorgeous digital camera that I've saw) or a LX100 MK II (that solve the biggest problem with my OG LX100 - crappy JPGs) without success, and now just find a LX100 II with a good price and pratically new, and a pristine Pen F with the 17mm f/2.8 with an AMAZING price.

But resisted. In the end of the day, they would sit unused - even my X-S20 is subutilized these days, working like a slave here...

"Hey Kai & Lok, Bloody producer here. First thing first the videos have bene restored (there’s a post on DRTV channel explaining what happened). Long story short, no one is monitoring the channel so things decay. I wish you’d reached out to me first, but I also understand why you do what you do. I haven’t been back to our old channel for years, and this certainly brought back memories. I still remember the hundreds of weekly meetings we had together, exchanging banters and ridicule each other’s haircuts. I remember our shared love for Top Gear, and Lok our shared Apple fanboyship. Those were the most fun 7 years I had work-wise, and I still miss those days a lot. I’m sure you’ll agree that those were also our most creative years, daring to think big (nothing compared to today’s Mr Beast era but those were some big ideas on YouTube back then!). I’m glad we got it going for so long. I’m also glad you guys continue carrying on making these videos. I have reached out personally and hopefully you got my messages. Would be happy to catch up whenever you guys are back in Hong Kong. Please do more of these reaction videos. I’d be the first one to watch! And thanks for bringing back my memories, and renewing the interest in our old channel and content. Cheers, Richard (Bloody Producer)"

"UPDATE: Good News! Thank you to the Richard/Bloody Producer and DR for making all the videos available again What also happened is that I ended up speaking to the Bloody Producer; he made the point - both publicly and privately - that he wished that we’d got in touch before publishing this video. But I want to clarify a few things first: First thing I’d like to say is that primarily this was made as a reaction video; the purpose of it is to SHARE the old content that we had on our hard drives with the public because it wasn’t available anymore, and hadn’t been for more than one month. Simple as that. Although the mystery of why they were taken down in the first place has since been explained by Richard/BP, it wasn’t our core objective to find out. Nothing shifty. We wanted to make the videos available for all to watch via a fair use/reaction video sort of thing. Another thing about Richard/Bloody Producer mentioning that he wished that I’d “reached out” makes it sound like we have been on good terms ever since and I simply didn’t want to mention it to him. The last communication we had was in 2016 when I didn’t sign the last contract and it was made quite clear how things were at that point and there’s been no communication up until now. Long story short: things haven't been cool between us for quite some time. We both have had chances to chuck out an olive branch at many opportunities, but ultimately didn't. I felt that we were releasing this purely for the sake of sharing content with you - the people watching - not to do the dirty on DR or to stir up a controversy. People have written about this news over a month ago; blogs asked me for interviews about it; Tony Northrup made a video titled “DigitalRev DELETED!” On 2nd November 2023 with over 80k views. If either Lok or I wanted to jump on the Hot Controversial News bandwagon, we could’ve done it much, much earlier. Alas, I have apologised to Richard/Bloody Producer directly for not attempting to contact him before hand. And the good thing is that, as Richard and I are both grown-ass men, we can talk again, bury the hatchet - let bygones be bygones - and just move on. And even more importantly: the videos are back online on the DRTV channel and, well, Richard/BP has encouraged us to make more reaction videos if we want, which is great because we really enjoyed watching those old videos together and I hope you have too! Thanks for the support, everyone! Love from Me"

Probably this will be a (almost) no gear for me too. Have to work out my personal finances and prepare for to future (and my daughter is in the last year of public school, probably will have to pay - a lot - for education next year..).

Spent almost a year searching for a LX100 II and/or an Olympus Pen F with reasonable prices, and now BOTH appeared...but have to stick to my plan.

At the same time, my camera usage is down to a minimum (working double for income in TI / finances), hence it would be a very bad expense.

And my current X-S20 and lenses is, by a big margin, the best kit that I had. More than enough for my current usage.

I have the Sigma on my X-S20. Amazing little thing, almost never used other lens after getting it. Should be the template for newer m43 zooms - if Sigma could do a 18-50 F/2.8 covering APS_C with this size, a small 12-35 f/2 or even f/1.8 is doable.

Yep, and a small and fast zoom lens (yes, it extends when powered on, but to carry is much smaller.

And being a zoom, for me, is a big differentiator compared to the X100 and GR. Much more versatile, and for the target groups, don't having to worry to change lenses is a huge selling point.

Never used a MK II - have the MK I, and it have a huge problem: the worst JPEG engine that I've ever saw in m4/3. Beside the usual green cast of the GH4 generation, it is mushy as hell. But the RAWs without problems, same as every m43 camera; but having to post-process takes a lot of the charm.

From waht I've heard, the MK II have the same JPEG pipeline of the OG G9 - hence the better Panasonic color science of that time. Having a touchscreen mitigates a bit the absence of a af joystick - I used it a lot in the GX85 and GX9, a joystick is better, but lcd touchpad is close.
