    I’d probably rent if it’s a fairly high paying job. Although, I never rent usually, and always want to keep whatever I use on a shoot, hehe.

    I have been using DIY anamorphic for about 7 or so years. I use an Iscorama pre36, but have used other 2x in the past. Nowadays I mix the Iscorama with a modified prime lens to enhance the oval characteristics. I attached some stills from a recent music video to give you an idea of the iscorama.

    and here is some old footage shot with a Sun 2x which I got for £30 -

    So here’s some examples of DIY anamorphic in controlled settings, and I think it can really shine. So if you want to keep an anamorphic for all future projects, deffo look into an Iscorama or a 2x setup with rapido clamp, or the aviascope seems OK. Then you have a variety of taking lenses to choose from, and it’s cheap !!
    But you could always rent a set for the shoot, but I always think that I wanna keep it and use it whenever I want, hence me going the DIY route. Purchasing a single anamorphic prime is also tempting, but it really depends on your budget.

    FYI comments like this tend to make other not want to help rather than encourage them to take time away from their lives to help out... I have owned a dozen anamorphic lenses from the gold isco's to cineovisions but I guess the two day time limit is up for advice.

    This is the one Takumar that I haven't used with an Iscorama, all the others are some of my favourite lenses to use with an anamorphic attachment. I do use the Tair 11a 135mm f2.8 & it works amazingly well, in fact these longer focal lengths give you better image quality than wider lenses do.
    The one thing to watch out for when using vintage lenses is to test out where infinity really is - by this I mean that a lot of adaptors play safe & the reading of infinity on the lens isn't always spot on, so you might have to dial it back a fraction. I have quite a few M42 lenses that behave this way, which might be why some people think they can't get a sharp/clear image when using an anamorphic adaptor. So always check the real Infinity mark of your taking lens (add some tape to secure it or make a mark on the taking lens, so if it moves you can adjust quickly) & then add your adaptor - you should have no troubles.
    NB. I find the Takumar's are some of the sharpest vintage taking lenses to use with an Iscorama & they are normally more reliable (in terms of quality control) than a lot of other brands, especially the Russain lenses.

    Yeah, seems like it, to be honest.
    I have a Pentacon 135/2.8 and even wide open it is okay.

    and here is just a montage from my old anamorphic set up (sun 2x, rectilux):

    -Very- well done. Nice build-up and framing. And you really make me lust for that Isco 36...such a small package, certainly with a pancake like that Nikon...are you around on the Anamorphic Shooters FB group as well? Good place to show off ?

    Hello. I recently purchased a pre-36 from a user on here, and used it for a project; a promo for an arts fair, held on the kubrick estate every year.

    Nice contributions so far guys.. keep em coming!
    I just got my pre36 and have rigged it up. Definitely missing the flares from my now sold Sun 2x.. the isco flares in such a boring way.. but the trade off is sharpness, resolution, form factor, and just about everything else ! I’m sure I’ll learn to love the isco flaring, but from my testing so far, it seems a little too ‘clinical’.

    Anyway, here’s a photo;

    Here is mine, still working on how to get ND's filters. Not easy finding a cheaper mattbox that supports a 153mm rear opening. Any suggestions from any one who has rigged up a foton-A would be appreciated.

    Me, my crew and my gear in extreme conditions (-24 celsius). I don’t have better images from my setup but I could take one someday at the studio. GH5 with modified FM Lens (Kowa 8z inside) minolta pancake 45 2.8 taking lens, smallhd focus monitor, some different branded rig parts. I am quite satisfied with this setup. GH5 and image stabilization with anamorphic lenses is just great! Really like that I can do even rough handheld work with my anamorphic setup with a great results!
