For my taste the image out of the EVA1 is fantastic....to bad about the mount, but image wise it's what I'd be looking for!

@DBounce I've also experienced an issue with the GH4.. it was just a shutter angle display that was missing, but the camera required a reset....that's why the GH5 settings saved to a memory card is such a great feature....lastly, I only stick to Sandisk Extreme Pros and only use Panesonic batteries, except when hooked up to a Shogun on a rig....I then power off Vmount with an Indypro adapter to Dtap and the GH5 thinks it's running on AC power....The GH series is bombproof...of course it's not impossible to get a lemon, but your's sounds like a 3rd party battery issue...

I would say if you want a A7s3 then just wait for it...you are offering both sides of the decision as to why or why not you should buy the GH5...just use your NX1 until you can get the Sony...how can any other member know, whether you should buy a GH5 or not...I bought one, and will certainly get another body...your needs will of course differ from mine!...your choice to make though.

Fritz Pierre reacted to Ehetyz in What about underexpose a tad bit?
This is taking me back to memory lane, lol
I used to underexpose back in the day quite a bit, mostly to protect the highlights, but also because imho on older HDV/HD cameras like the HV30 everything looked much more filmic when underexposed in the Cine gamma mode. I did this on the 550D as well, protected the highlights and underexposed by one stop. I got some pretty unique looking results that way.
This was a feature I did on HV30.
And this was on the 550D. Of course the subject matter in both is well suited for, well, a murkier look.
Haven't found any reason to do that with any recent cameras though, and with Blackmagics I've swinged to the other side and stick to ETTR most of the time.

I went with the Tiffen Indy Pack of ND's all at 77mm and I have to say I could not be happier with them...I use metal flared hoods to standardize all my lenses to 77mm...My bigger Nikon AF-S zooms are already there, and a couple of cheap sets of step up rings, combined with the flared metal hoods work perfectly...good ND's are expensive...lens hoods are not...and they're dirt cheap on EBay!
PS...I own the PL12-60 and shot my daughter's 6th birthday party on a GH4 (non IBIS camera) using only the lens stabilization and all looks great and steady...everything was handheld....I bought this lens with the Focus Transition feature on the GH5 in mind as an afterthought, but it's never off my camera...and to put the speed of the lens into perspective...compared to the 12-35 Panny, it's only 1/2 a stop slower at 35mm and you still have 25mm of reach left!

Hi Andrew....one of the best camera reviews I've read....and not just because I own one, but for the thoughtful way you laid out what's important for shooting motion....and maybe the most important thing for me personally in your review, was the part about motion cadence...the Achilles Tendon of most cameras....I knew that motion would be improved with the 400 bit all Intra, but that they held on to the image quality too, is such an achievement....Panasonic has now brought the GH line into Varicam territory with upgrades that are significant (actually considering anamorphic desqueeze huge IMO) I almost no longer consider the cost of the camera...it is a little monster by any cost measures really...and I love this companies philosophy of selling you the camera, and then continuing to build that same camera out to it's potential over time....like @DBounce it's making me think of a second one...I've already dismissed the EVA due to the EF mount, but one built out GH5  on sticks and one in the hand makes for a great production package...looking forward to your 2nd part of the review, and the Shooters Guide to follow some time....I think you'll have many takers as this is no camera for a beginner, but it's so capable in a package of this size, it's almost comical....again, thank you!!

Wow, just wow... Respect for Panasonic just went up big time. Canon who? This is amazing, Panasonic have gone above and beyond my wildest expectations with this update. My decision to invest in the Panasonic system now justified. Canon never did anything like this for us. I am still waiting to see what EVA1 brings, but if the lowlight performance is there, I can see it making a nice addition to my tool kit. If not, another GH5 will be in the cards. In any case, this is massive. The competition is surely looking stupid right now. Hey Sony, Canon, Nikon etc... this is how you earn customers business and repeat business.

Fritz Pierre reacted to DBounce in Feiyutech a2000
The new Feiyutech a2000 was sitting at my door waiting to great me on Friday. I had purchased this gimbal as a replacement of the Zhiyun Crane V2. I had found the Zhiyun to be less than ideal for flying the GH5 with the anamorphic adapter installed. The is largely because when counterbalanced the movement of the camera is more limited. Comparing the two I would say the Feiyutech is better made, and better thought out. It can easily accommodate the larger anamorphic setup and at no point feels overworked. The remote is built into the handlebars, which can be folded for transport. setup is a breeze and minor changes to the balance of the camera do not require rebalancing. It is easy and fast to use. And these are two things I like a lot. Below is some quick footage of the GH5 with SLR Magic 40 Compact anamorphic adapter on the a2000. The taking lens is the 35-100mm f2.8 ver 2, which is quickly becoming my goto lens when shooting anamorphic.
    Comment welcomed. Enjoy!

Yes ETC. On the GH5 adds an extra lens to any of the lenses you own....in 4K....with a reasonably small crop...really what I had hoped they would do on the EVA1... with a mount that could receive adapters...instead I'll just save my pennies for the LT

Fritz Pierre reacted to DBounce in LOL Canon... C200 Codec "Upgrade" details announced
Canon could care less what we think. Everyone that has commented on this camera has mentioned wanting 10 bit 422, in a reasonable codec... So what does Canon do... They add another 8 bit option that no one wanted, and no one will use. Great work Canon. Basically this competes with any bit camera. Raw will be used in special conditions only, as most simply have not the time to waste with transcoding it.
GH5 is a smarter option for 98% of shooters. Eva1 is an option also, but I'm not convinced it is a significant enough upgrade to justify the $7k price tag. I guess we need to see footage to judge. But keep in mind the GH5 is also getting a 400mb codec soon. So all bets are off.

I've had no vignetting with the XL speedbooster...on APS-C...bought the 12-60 PL as an afterthought to try with the rack focus feature on the GH5 and have to say I love this lens...only 1/2 a stop slower than the 12-35 at 35mm and outdoors I appreciate the extra 25mm of reach...Although I don't own it, I think the Leica 42.5 is the best lens out there for the price....period...the image is ridiculously good...I own the Leica 25 1.4, and  although the 25 has an almost 3D quality wide open, the 42 is just in a league of its own..regardless of M4/3, S35 or FF IMO...I do use my GH5 with an Atomos Shogun shooting to SSD cards in Prores 422 HQ 800mbs...the data penalty is high but the image, focus and exposure tools and my needs suit that combo...anyway...I think you will love this camera...it's truly a great camera to shoot with, and one where the potential is just beginning to get tapped!

Fritz Pierre got a reaction from Orangenz in How do I get my hands on GH5 VLOG upgrade?
The GH5 is a world camera...it is not regional....it can work in a PAL or NTSC region with the flip of a switch....if you need the code in a hurry, you can get it from anywhere in the world and it will work...I had my VlogL code entered by the camera store I bought it, and the GH5 from...if you have a relationship with a camera store, and they have VlogL available, just buy it and ask them to email you the code number...they can then ship you the card in case of warranty issues with the camera down the road...you can install Vlog the same day you buy it.

I don't think forums are dying, one of the largest is Reddit and that has never been more popular or mainstream.
Facebook discussions are a whisker away from YouTube comments - the use of real names doesn't seem to change anything. People are attacked and abused on Facebook and Twitter in far greater numbers than all of the camera forums put together!
What the world needs to do is go offline and be productive... Then when they are back online, they can self-express in more productive ways as well, rather than shouting at one-another because of their different opinions. The internet has created a tribal culture, with echo chambers and mobs.
Thanks Ed for starting a lively discussion... If we can all lighten up and see the fun in it or use some humour, it would be a nice way of glossing over our superficial differences and recognising the fact we're all humans with similar interests and if one of us ever got hurt, or needed help in real life, we'd step up.
