The other Pink Elephant in the room, is that we are approaching the point where any IQ improvement in a camera will become difficult to detect...It's like the days when I was obsessed with sound  systems...constantly needed new speakers or amp or turntable, and the inprovements did not reflect what I was spending on the gear....at some point I started listening to music again instead of my system??...the same is true for these cameras....at some point one has to stop magnifying images  to 400 percent and start doing something with them, or the acquisition becomes about the camera, instead of the content you create with it! There are some guys on DVXUser going through exactly the same quandary with the EVA1 now...the IQ is very good to my eye....the mount is a deal breaker...but these guys keep looking for more footage...and complaining about everything they see, while others are already shooting with the cam...I really believe we're close to the saturation point, where ergonomics, or the lenses you own or whether you light or not, informs which  camera you choose.

Not regardless the best settings though... GH5 is a professional camera indeed. Requires know-how and work. There are no miracles straight out the box.

I agree with @Orangenz on this...it's very easy to do...I have a little Olympus TG5 where you can only trigger video from the movie button and it's always user error on my part....(1) there is a way to test for this...stop and start on the camera at home until you fill up the cards..3 second clips...trigger record from the main shutter release button, not the little movie button....if you can repeat the problem, you can contact Panasonic...(2) this is perhaps the most important....roll for a few seconds on EVERY take before action....that's what was done in the days of film when 5 seconds cost real money, but it allows sound to sink, everything to get up to speed and most importantly, you get to see that the camera is running properly for that take...it's good practice on any shoot and you get the take every time.

@EmanuelI did not keep my test...also I only tested in 16x9, but lastly and perhaps most importantly, I really do not move a camera much...so I used IBIS instead of a tripod...I would only ever pan if I was following an actor...and strictly narrative, so for my purposes the XL is a no brainer....an extra 1/3 stop...huge if you're looking at the difference above 3200iso and the widest FOV...I can always crop a little in post if need be, and still have the extra speed from the XL over the Ultra...I posted this in another thread on the 2 speedboosters.

You do not  dissapoint in your never ending ways of seeing a negative in Panasonic? Or just the GH5s?....so instead of Panasonic being the first to deliver 10bit 4:2:2 internal recording in a hybrid 2000 camera, you turn this into a must develope feature by Panasonic to make up for their failure in Vlog with the GH4....I glanced at a thread on the 5DM3 and ML once....a video clip in which the banding and rolling shutter was so bad as to be unusable IMO....as I have no interest in the camera, I saw no reason to comment on it....do you want a GH5 or do you just want to hate it?

I think that people rag on these cameras because they'd never be comfortable not seeing every detail in the shadows. "Crushed blacks. I see CRUSHED BLACKS" is all they'd say.
Noam Kroll has an interesting article "How dynamic range is killing your images" or something like that. People get obsessed with preserving highlights and shadows at the expense of a creative image.

I use the Speedbooster XL on the Tokina 11-16 APS-C...hand held with IBIS on, I get zero Vignetting and it gets me down to 7.4mm at f1.8, so very fast and very wide!...I did consider the PL 8-18 for a bit, but I find 12 mm already wide on the GH5 (I own the PL 12-60), so for the rare occasion I need wider, I already owned the Tokina and it's 1 1/3 stops faster....I remember previous discussions, re the XL or Ultra SB, on APS-C lenses, though at the time, I felt it was easy enough to do a small crop in post and the wider FOV and extra 1/3 stop was significant with the XL...also no issues with the Sigma 18-35...these lenses are Nikon mount and on a tripod the results are the same...I had initially thought it might be an issue with handheld, but there's none.

Fritz Pierre got a reaction from Orangenz in How High An ISO Will You Go On Your GH5???
1600 is safe but well exposed 3200 will work for a must get shot!...for shooting fast the GH5 is the ideal camera, but it takes getting up to speed with...I would stay away from Vlog at high ISO and shoot standard, Like709 or CineD...a problem that might occur for you if you shot in Vlog is that even the preview luts in the LCD are quite low contrast, so if a client was looking at what you were shooting on the LCD they'd get the wrong impression...the 1st 2 profiles would be no post and CineD a dropped LUT and perhaps a slight contrast adjustment....all very ready out of camera looks. Personally I like the results hooting in 4K and downscaling to 1080, or however you deliver the content.

It looks like it works pretty well, when you stay within the realm of reasonable.  I'll never understand the jumping completely in and out of frame tests, Honestly who shoots that way.

Ok, this is what I've been waiting for. From what footage I have seen the GH5 > EVA1 + C200. This camera rocks. Load of new firmware now imminent. I am quite excited to see what I can do with it. I just watched a few videos on YouTube of the new firmware... great DR, detail in the shadows is good. Also shadow noise seems a non-issue with this firmware. I am sure it will not be perfect in every way, but this is pretty good from what I can see. Even with YouTube compression, the footage still holds up. Nice work Panasonic!
This is a good day for the GH5 faithful and a good day for content creators as a whole. Win Win

@jax_rox...I only own 4 Panasonic native lenses...and I bemoan NOTHING...I'm expressing why this mount and camera means nothing to me...please refrain from inferring that you have any idea of my intent with my equipment...you don't....I am expressing my point of view re why this camera does not suit me with an EF mount and I don't give a fuck who Panasonic targeted with this camera...but it's not me...and as for the value in being able to adapt a multitude of lenses to one system....plenty of forum material on the internet.

Yes, agree...the image out of the camera is lovely...very detailed...And I've seen enough great shots from the camera, that I would have rseriously considered it...but the EF mount is of no interest...perhaps in a version 2 of the EVA, they will address that need!

I'm not sure...even on the GH4 I had little problem and the GH 2 which I still own, has an Image I love...but as you know, taste is subjective...I love the image from BM but their earlier 2 cameras were ergonomically impractical IMO...stunning image though....Panasonic color I will take over Canon or Sony any day (except for the Sony F35...which I think has the best digital image of any camera today, including the Alexa)...my only interest is in narrative...I need certain reliability factors satisfied and in my work It's my taste and look that counts...that's what allows me to tell a story...be it 30 seconds or 1 hour....but that's the beauty of today....so many choices...one really can't blame the cameras any more....when I started working in the industry you shoton an Arriflex S35 film camera or for handheld on the shoulder an Aaron S16 film camera...those were the choices and the process was horrendously expensive and really only for the select few...and what you say about the GH cameras is true, but for me (only my opinion) it holds true for all cameras today...far more crap shot on all of them...yet put any of these cameras in the hands of a crew 2 to 3 to operate the GH x or A6500 and lighting and production value and I can guarantee you, you would not know what camera you were looking at...so personally I try to look between the lines when choosing my cameras...but finally...nobody's right or wrong...just different taste and abilities....
