Hello everyone, I have owned Sigma fp for a year now, and I want to say that this camera will never cease to amaze and delight me. I am not professionally engaged in this video filming and in connection with this I would like to clarify something. In this video link below, I've interpreted the internal CDNG (12 bit), perhaps a little differently. And I know that from the point of view of the "science of color" this is not true. But I really liked the result. Trying to process the same files that Ryan Earl suggests (via CST in RED Log3G10) - I get a really accurate picture, but it does not convey a sense of color depth. Do I need to use additional presets after conversion?

I had this lens on my a7ii, sold the cam, kept the lens and made eventually the plunge back to Sony land because of that single lens - whenever i look at the images it produces I cant say something else than plain love 🥰
Since I am currently more a telephoto kind of guy, the equiv 60mm is ok for now. When i came back this weekend with my first shots with the voigt on the a6600 i was blown away by its sharpness - you really need to see the picture fullscreen to see the insane sharpness - the forum preview does a rather poor job. Quite some time ago that I was that blown away by gear as i am right now with this lens. Even when taking into consideration that this is just a 4k framegrab and not a photo!
Speaking of 40mm photos taken with this lens (again open in fullscreen):

jase reacted to Brian Williams in Sigma Fp first shots - how does internal 8bit RAW compare to external 12bit RAW?
This isn't going to sell the camera to anyone, but I will say, having completely written off the 8-bit raw before I even got the camera, I was intrigued by the article here to give it a go, and while you can't push the grade like you can with the 12-bit, having the benefit of being able to adjust the white balance after the fact is really great, and I'm totally sold on using the 8-bit. Just sucks that a fast UHS-II card with a fraction of the capacity is more expensive than a 500gb T5. (Or half-glass full, awesome that a T5 is cheaper than a fast UHS-II card with a fraction of the capacity!)
Shot with the Sigma MC-21and the Canon thrifty fifty (which is a horrible combination btw, the slowest focusing I've ever seen, they're both going back). Works great in manual. Looking forward to some stabilized L-Mounts.

The crop to my eye (not scientific) is about 1.2x or 1.3x crop in full frame mode with EIS activated. You also have an actual 4K Super 35mm crop mode as well (1.5x). You can only enable EIS in MOV 4K mode not Cinema DNG. When I use the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 in full frame EIS mode, it still vignettes a bit in the corners at 18mm but fine at 35mm. You'd need to crop a bit more in post to get the wide end to look ok.

They are pretty good (particularly the 23mm and 11-23mm) but ridiculously expensive.
I have the 18-56mm and even as a used "bargain" it was the better part of £700.
    £700 for a used f/3.5–5.6 zoom lens.
Its a good f/3.5–5.6 zoom lens of course but even so.
Sigma have their own APS-C L mounts on the way so I'd definitely hang on to have a look at those before committing.
If you are looking for small then I'd recommend going down the M mount route with an adapter as you'll get full frame coverage, fast apertures and very decent prices with the 3rd party brands like Voigtlander and 7Artisans.
Manual focus of course but looking at the AF performance on those Benny Hill reboot videos posted further up the thread its not that much of a loss to me

To be honest it's not even average.
You have to study a lot and most important see great videos and search the way they did those.
Catching a camera that is capable of decent to great image doesn't mean you are capable too.
Don't give up and keep going.

jase reacted to BTM_Pix in Would You Perhaps Be Interested In A Different GX80/85 Colour Profile???
OK for @jase or anyone else who wants to prod about in a bit more of a structured manner on their Lumix device, I have just knocked up this rough and ready Lumix Video Format Explorer app for Android.

Usual story, attach your camera to your device over wifi and then open the app and hit the CONNECT button and your camera should clear its wifi screen and show that it is under remote control.
If you want to see if the 709Like profile works on your camera then just hit the 709Like button and see what happens. Certainly does nothing on the GX80 but it seems to on the GX9 so its worth a go on similar later cameras.
The next 4 buttons switch the video format of the camera and the MP4ED appears to populate the GX9 with additional options but again, nothing on the GX80.
Next up, we have the SELECT FORMAT button. When you press that, you get this list (which scrolls to several pages).

This is the list of every format returned from a probe of the GH5 so select the one you want to try and it will return you to the main screen with that one now shown in the blue banner beneath the SELECT FORMAT and SEND button.
Obviously to send the currently selected recording format you then hit SEND.
Beneath the blue banner are the PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons which will select the next recording format in the list and then automatically send it to the camera.
The reason for the two different methods is obviously so you can use the list selection to get to a specific one you want rather than scrolling through and the PREVIOUS/NEXT auto method is better for stepping through regions of formats (i.e just the AVCHD ones).
Finally, the RECORD button is a bit self explanatory and switches between red and green depending on status.
The purpose of having the file name in the bigger banner is so that for testing you can point the camera at the phone (on a stand or propped up ideally) and then when you review the recorded file you will have a visual indicator of what file format you had told it to record in for easier confirmation.
If you send the camera some file formats it really doesn't like then certainly on the GX80 this can sometimes result it in de-populating its list inside the camera (i.e. you can select MP4 but there are no different formats listed) but this can easily be resolved by choosing a known working format from the list and sending it which will restore the list.
For the GX80 an example of this will be
    mp4_24p_100mbps_4k
As this contains the full list of all 202 GH5 format variants, I'd probably say this is the definitive last hurrah for anyone trying to find any hidden type inside their Lumix cameras and is obviously fastest and the most structured way to do it so will be less painful than having to paste hundreds of commands into a browser.
I think that this will be more fruitful for the latter cameras based on what seems to be happening with the GX9 so if you have one of those then using this you might be able to find more gold with that one a bit quicker.
Also, if you come across someone with an LX100 Mark 2 then this app will let us quickly establish if there is anything in there as I now have a sneaking feeling there might be.
Usual caveats regarding use of this app is that it doesn't send any commands other than those sent by the Panasonic app but obviously use of it is at your own risk.
Your Android device should auto install the attached apk file when you download it but make sure you have your security settings set to allow installation of apps from “Unknown sources“.

jase reacted to BTM_Pix in GX80/85 External Microphone Input Modification (if you dare)
So, I've happened across the service manual for our old friend the GX80/85....
A while ago, a brave soul on DPReview cracked open his LX100, located where the internal mics connected and made a breakout cable.

    Its documented here
    https://***URL removed***/forums/thread/3845240
So with the aid of the newly acquired GX80/85 service manual, I had a look to see where the mics were and was there a similar potential.
The good news is that there is.
The mics themselves are located under the hotshoe .

The service manual provides all the information you need to trace the signal and connect a break out to your own connector. You could conceivably do the same for the speaker output and make a headphone port if you were so inclined.

You can use this IR mod guide to get you going with the cracking open the case.
    https://www.lifepixel.com/tutorials/infrared-diy-tutorials/life-pixel-panasonic-lumix-gx85-diy-digital-infrared-conversion-tutorial
And then take it from there with the service manual I've attached here to do the rest of the steps to get to the hotshoe removal.
    LUMIX GX85 Service Manual.pdf
Now, I'm no expert on consumer law but I have a sneaking feeling that doing this mod might invalidate your warranty a little bit so its all at your own risk.
What we could really do with is someone who already has a completely dismantled GX80 to try this out for everyone eh @Andrew Reid ?

Seems they need stacked Sony A9 sensor for better rolling shutter.
But I am very happy with my Z6 and S1, and to have that sensor in a camera the size of an RX1 is truly game changing. A guaranteed must-buy for me.

I recently compiled a small list which you can view here http://sandladan.com/camera/gear/field-monitors/
It's nothing fancy, just an aid to get a easier overview on brightness/weight etc.
However I think you'll be perfectly fine with the smallhd focus.

I'll come back with more detail when I've got a bit more time but the one that ticks all the boxes is the Sony A6500.
APS-C, IBIS, Log, EVF, Mic input and the rangefinder style makes it more compact than the SLR styling and therefore pocketable.
Lens wise, the cheap Sigma primes for it are tiny and way better than they have a right to be.
The fast native and M mount Voigtlanders and 7Artisans are also very compact.
Its not a well loved camera (I say that as an owner of one as well!) but it does a hell of a lot in a small package.
If you can get the stabilisation to come from your lenses then I'd have the OG Blackmagic Pocket in there as well but its tricky getting a fast one with OS.
In terms of utility for a pure travel camera then I'd have to say that after using it for the past week in that role, the Osmo Pocket is a standout product.

Honestly the best pocket rig is a GX80 with a pancake lens. Easily fits in the pocket, has IBIS so the footage is perfectly smooth, shoots great 4k video.
