Speaking of, I just picked up a GH5S and I'm glad to hear it has an OLPF. I took it out over the weekend with my anamorphic setup, here's a couple of stills (Alex I think you've seen these on Facebook with a slightly different grade, but these here are straight GHa).

FCPX coverage coming up (I have it now). This is what I've learned thus far:
In FCPX you will want to use the Custom Lut utility built in, rather than a plug-in to apply GHa (beware mLut). Also, for correcting WB, use the temp/tint controls in the Color Wheels in conjunction with the Vectorscope. Avoid the Basic WB eyedropper (more than just WB). The same basic principles and order of operation in Resolve and Premiere apply to FCPX.

FWIW, one of the favorite docs I shot was with a GM1 handheld.  There's a lot of things to worry about with making movies.  Sure, camera mass is one of them, but, to me, pretty inconsequential on the priority list.

Wanted to share more GX85 Cine-D samples. It's fun to carry around with the 14-42mm pancake for impromptu video when I'm not using it for photos. Additional coloring was done on top of GHa.

Probably I'm wrong, but every rumor about higher capable camera actually affects me in a strange way - to ask myself: am I really overgrew my existing tool regarding opportunities to use it, or am I even made usage of its values to full potential, for private creativeness or for real business/competitive market? Sadly, I must admit that at the moment it seems that answer is - no. (If just somewhere exists rumors about more opportunities for me to escape in camera shooting realm...)

I just spent the past hour looking at this guy’s work... wow. From the comments section of his videos, it seems he mostly directs now but if you go back through his work, he has about a half dozen videos he shot. It seems he started with the 7D and then eventually moved onto the GH4. To keep it lens related, he usually shot with one lens... the Sigma 30mm 1.4. No fancy grading techniques either... just sliders and color wheels.
I think I have way too many lenses and am overthinking filmmaking way too much....
Of course, I wish I realized this last night before I ordered that lens...

Thanks for your feedback, kye! In fact, this was my very first short, so yeah - there is quite some room for improvement
The surf shots were filmed using the 100-300mm @ 300mm on a tripod, so yeah - the IBIS was getting in the way quite a bit, but acceptable imo.

    Thanks, that's very helpful
I can see what you mean about there being an equivalent amount of detail but with less sharpening.   In fact it's quite a difference in sharpening, I didn't realise there was that much of it being applied TBH.
On the whole though, it doesn't seem like there is really much downside to using it.  Looking at individual frames really blows me away, such a great looking image

I keep going to upgrade my GH3, but never do. It has been dropped, dragged along the footpath, rained on. Rubbery bits have fallen off and I’ve gaffer taped them back on, and still the damn thing keeps working for me. In terms of income vs camera cost ratio, I can’t complain. The thing is bullet proof. I’ve  been looking at all the new releases, but 2nd hand GH3s are so cheap... 1080p is all I need, and that thing paired with my voigtlander 25mm is just heaven.
I also have a GX85. Yeah, it’s okay, but I just know it won’t be around as long as the GH3.

Of course it's not, i just said it's easy to find f2.8 lenses that matches the f4 of ff which is still 'okish' dof. What really makes the GH5 specifically useful to me are two lenses that after trying different things are now keepers:
Olympus pro 17mm f1.2 and the 45mm f1.2 combined with Ibis and the full manual focus on the lenses make it a everyday tool on every production. I keep a 35mm 1.4 Glied to the eva1 and have a wide and portrait equivalent of 35mm f2.4 and a 90mm 2.4 in FF terms but with 1.2 light gathering. All together a very good package.

I think it will probably work. Granted, when it comes to color, its hard to assume (measurement is often a surprise)
Here is a Cine-D to VLog conversion to test it out with: http://emotivecolor.com/hlgtovlog.html?v=1.2

The G85 has a bit more competitive lifespan in it, but by PhotoKina time Sony will have another a5000- or a6000-series out or announced, and Canon will probably have a 90D. Panasonic will need a G85 replacement with the 20MP sensor, 4K60 8-bit, and still with IBIS of course, and still under a grand, preferably with a kit lens, to compete. The G9 can keep the crazy photo framerates to justify its price, and the GH5/GH5s can keep the 10-bit and high bitrates.

Although DuetDisplay is primarily pitched at using your iPad (or iPhone) as an extension monitor to your Mac, it can actually be used as the primary monitor to do what you are after.
There was an issue with one of the more recent OSX updates that stopped it working but I believe they have updated it recently to resolve it.

I eager to try out to edit X-T3 footage on an iPad Pro with Lumafusion. The iPad has a dedicated h265 decoder/encoder in the SOC. The rumoured iPad Pro with an A12X chip will be a beast. For editing family, or personal stuff on the go this could be good. I edited a bit of 4k h265 iPhone X Footage on an iPad Pro 9.7 (2016 model) with Lumafusion which worked great. My old Macbook Pro 13" from 2013 couldn't handle it.
There is still missing a bit from Lumafusion, but it's quite good for an iPad App. Don't know it the high bitrates could be a problem.
When I'm in vacation a leave my laptop at home and only take my IPad with me. The X-T3 with one to the new rumored 11" iPad Pros could be a really cool small an powerfull mobile package.
Time that Apple brings Final Cut X to the iPad!

Thanks for posting your video. To me, the IQ looks something like that of an 80D. However, I can see why you love the voitlander 40mm lens now.
Do  you think you will keep your a7 II??? Or do you think you will sell it?
If you think you will keep it, may I make a suggestion? I would suggest trying out SLOG and seeing if you are ok with the workflow required for using SLOG. I say this because in the few shots in your video where it is bright and sunny, the highlight rolloff is pretty bad. Most sony picture profiles have nasty highlight rolloff (IMHO).
SLOG will give you a bit more dynamic range and the rolloff is less nasty than the other profiles. But the workflow is harder.
Of course, if you are going to sell this camera than that is irrelevant.
Anyway, please keep us updated on whatever you end up deciding to do.
