It sounds like you’re threatened by this camera so you’re making sure you point out any and all shortcomings you can. Isn’t sissy a bit emotional ? You’re reaching.
Some people will be happy with 10bit 422 as their maximum image quality as long as they have a tilt able screen and autofocus.
Most serious image makers know that 12bit raw and 10 bit ProRes for half the price trumps the MILC features you’re desperately trying to remind everyone your precious GH5s has. Mostly because “filmmakers” don’t tend to use those features anyway. I don’t use AF.  But I shoot narrative drama.  What I need isn’t what others need.
For the majority, they will prefer the utility of the form factor, longer battery life, AF and IBIS on the GH5 and will find the bare minimum for serious work 400Mbps codec to be good enough.
People who care about image fidelity will likely prefer what a Pocket 2 produces side by side and will also decide that they can work around the shortcomings that pertain to the way they work.
The same way others will prefer to work around the shortcomings of a lower bit depth more compressed and sub sampled image because other features are important to them.
On board batteries on an Alexa mini on my last show were lasting about 40 mins by the way.  I guess you’re calling me a sissy.
    JB
EDIT  by the way, I don’t think it’s at all appropriate to use sissy, a word that means effeminate man or homosexual. Maybe you want to change that.

I know plenty that feel IBIS is almost as good as a gimbal and therefore can be used in place of a dolly for tracking shots.
As as opposed to me in a car tracking someone, the example I gave.
Thats two different types of tracking shots.
And by the way you said “locked off” shots which I didn’t actually say and is not what I’m talking about IBIS being good at.
    Keep trying.

    Hi,
What kind of filters did you use to "render" AF unavailable ?
As per my knowledge, only on low light it malfunction, but here you have a lot of light.
And yes, some frames looks a bit too colored.

Work in advertising and haven't really had much time for my own projects the past years. But I am releasing a music video in June that I directed, shot (handheld BMPCC), edited and colored.
For now, this is my latest, for mother's day:

Yes, and in combination with a Tiffen Low light contrast filter.
But Keep in mind my objective here was to challenge the "unacceptable noise" comment that some people hold against this camera, and others in the same class in general.
A little Neat Video goes a long way. Also, by the time you add in more contrast or an s-curve to the footage, a lot of those artifacts perceptually go bye-bye. This isn't anything new. It has to be done on a lot of Alexa, RED and certaintly Blackmagic systems as well.
Sony set such a high and impractical bar in my opinion. The high ISO capability is literally teaching a generation of how to NOT properly light and expose a dark scene, esstentially stripping away a really good tool that has been succesfully used for many of decade. And now the expectation (bad practice) of using very high ISO gets wrapped up in other systems, like the GH5s. It still comes with other compromises too.
Darkness IS information in terms of narrative work, and I feel like I'm going to be evangelizing this more and more, and I'm already blue in the face as it is. ? Yes, this emoji is yellow.
The viewer does not need to see every detail in a scene to comphrehend what the scene is relating. That would fall more into line with documentation. A narrative piece is not a document of antiquity, it's a story, therefore an illusion. The human brain is really good at filling in the blank spaces. All you need to give the viewer are hints, the brain parses the rest. It's pretty remarkable, and testimate to how powerful the mind is.
Take my profile image of the man sitting in the car. You only see small hints of a car, some seat, some steering wheel, both descending into shadow. But you as the viewer know he's sitting in a car and not a train. Correct? It's what you don't see that's drawling you in. So going back to high ISO, do you really want to see all the details in the scene? I say, shadows are friends, not combatants.
I learned this actually in my fine art classess in college some 22 years ago, and it was practiced knowledge long, long, long before that, and has been effective for all kinds of mediums within the arts and sciences.

A couple more shots from the Canon 28mm 1.8. I got this lens for an insanely low price and it's quickly becoming one of my favorite lenses. Even without IS, I am able to go handheld on FF, which will make this lens indispensable going forward.

Make it 40... to me this camera doesn’t even exist.
Eventually we’ll have footage from John Brawley or Frank Glencairn or Noam Kroll and the footage will look amazing. More people will love it but a few will find something wrong with it...
Eventually card info will be released, and more people will complain.
Eventually AF tests will show up comparing this camera to the PDAF of the a6500 and more people will complain.
Eventually low light tests will show up comparing this camera with the GH5s or the a7sii and more people will complain.
At the end, when it’s released, a bunch of people will complain because they hate that they have to use an IR Cut filter and they will complain that they only get 45-60 minutes of battery life and that they wish it had IBIS...
And eventually the usual suspects will be the only people that have the camera and the footage will be absolutely gorgeous.
    The End.

iamoui reacted to BTM_Pix in My LUMIX Hardware Controller Is Complete
As someone less than politely pointed out on the other thread, I appear to have been a bit of a lazy arse in the almost 12 months since I tripped over and found the Cinelike d thing.
You may recall it happened because I was researching making a hardware controller and after several iterations, here it finally is.

And yes, it does look rather like a calculator doesn't it?
The different iterations (including an Android app at one point!) have been in pursuit of making something small, standalone, self powered, fast connecting, push buttons and with an integrated screen at a lowish cost and, well, here we are.
Here is the finished spec and features :
Compatible with all Panasonic Lumix cameras that can be controlled by wifi Integrated USB rechargeable battery Full colour screen 20 keys with 3 bank switch keys giving 60 direct switch operations of functions Control of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction. Automatic unlocking of Cinelike D and Cinelike V on GX80/85, LX10/15 and TZ10 Control of manual focus in fine and coarse steps  Control of One Shot AF Control of Record Stop/Start Store and Recall 8 focus points 4 selectable transition speeds between focus points Store and Recall 8 setup presets (each consisting of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction) Presets are stored in non-volatile memory so are available in any session. Boot time to camera connection and control under 2 seconds. Wifi control range tested to 20m. Optional accessories :
Interface module to support Nintendo Nunchuck controller for manual focus control (native lenses and adapted lenses with smart adapters) and zoom (integrated lens cameras and power zoom lenses only) Wireless interface module to sync remote record and stop on supported Tascam, Zoom and SoundDevices audio recorders.  The controller fits a regular cheap cellphone to threaded adapter holder so as well as being used handheld it can be mounted to anything you have a need for with the right attachment so could be on a cage or a gimbal or whatever.

I'm going to be doing some more testing of it in anger in the next couple of weeks and I'll put up a video of it in action then.
So, I have been a bit less lazy than first imagined
By the by, the controller has both wifi and bluetooth so it begs the question would anyone be interested in a version of it for the Pocket 4K ??

The C100 sensor is a classic one, I wouldn't expect the M50 to be that good (in low light performance, as well). It makes me wonder, why just not Canon implement a better codec on this camera, and keep it relevant a lot more than it is (I already used the C100mkII in 2 projects this year, GH5 and my Samsung in the rest, so C100 is still relevant, but you know what I mean).
All the reviews of the 11-22mm I have read, speak about an ultra sharp lens, even wide open, I could guess if you stopped down to 5.6f that would be enough to match most primes. It is a good lens. M50 is an interesting little camera, but as Canon describe it, is an entry level M camera, so I wouldn't expect much of it. I am pretty confident that we will see more M cameras, soon, and they will be a lot more exciting. Top wish? A pro M body, a camera that can truly replace my NX1 as a hybrid with amazing ergonomics/touch screen implementation and focus.

Digital Bolex has an incredible analogue look and fantastic CCD skin tones.
1D C produced amazing thick files, chunky 500Mbit 4:2:2 4K, with Canon's trademark clean low light and great colour in a small body with a massive sensor. I recently saw one go for under £2000 for first time. It's a steal.
    C100... Meh
BMCC 2.5K is a cinematic beast, I am still amazed by the dynamic range in 2.5K raw it produces even today. The huge touch screen was nice too. Rest of the camera not so much
Special shout out to the Samsung NX1. Canon colour in a high-end mirrorless camera, with an image that completely floors whatever the C100 can do.

Need for an external monitor depends on how you use it.  If camera is on a tripod then you're probably fine, but if you're hand-holding for an ability to quickly get a variety of shots then you might miss a screen that can't articulate vertically.  In terms of hand-holding I can hand-hold my XC10 / Gorillapod 5K setup with my arms fully outstretched at 240mm steady enough so that the IS locks the shot with no movement, so it is possible.
Depends on the vlogger and what you'd call a "vlogger" (as opposed to many other styles of YT film-making).  I see YouTubers with A7SII / Atomos external recorders, C300s, C100s, 1DXII, A7RIII, GH5, GH5s, EVA, etc.  If you definition of 'vlogger' is only people that prattle endlessly into the selfie camera on their phone while walking somewhere to get their nails done, then your definition needs expanding radically.  I'm happy to provide examples of YT channels with high production value if you're interested.

@TheRenaissanceMan I found that comparison test pretty interesting. Didn't you? I also found the tester has arrived to the same opinion your comments point out and I share. Reason why I pushed the 'like' button over your posts and posted that.
@jonpais When I was @ law school before to conclude my learning there, I had dreams, you know? I thought filmmaking was much easier to match my own expectations. Then, I went to film school where I could have the experience of 4-years full training on post-production and directing departments. I also realized at that time the post graduate studies in the field of production could lead to better waters for the kind of work I would like to experiment and became a producer. You can find the links in my signature shot with many different cameras. In one or another I had some influence on the camera decision front, as well, some other gear connected with. Without mention some creative choices to make, non-technology-related. On a few others, none of my business for that specific project.
On the leftover, I don't find a forum like this one may call the best location for that. I am not a reviewer nor tester in any way other than non-scientific tests I perform when other ones have much more work to show. So, I'd rather post the best I can find to illustrate my own finds. As a still photographer I also much appreciate to shoot, oh well, frankly on that one, follows the same rule in the last paragraph, at least in part. I always praise my work as very personal. There's place for everything in life and life out there  : ) The right location.

Trust me, I have my hands on some ProRes and DNG materials from the camera (acquired from NAB), it's clean af up to about 6400. Noise pattern is very pleasant fine grain, due to lack of compression obviously. The sensor is confirmed to be IMX294CJK, it's the STARVIS line from Sony Semicon with BSI design, originally intended for low light surveillance.

I sometimes think Samsung did what they did just to prove a point they that they could do it. It's not like Samsung didn't have the money to ride out sagging sales. They have to have known they were not going to sell millions of cameras in a short period. Sony faced the same problem when they bought out Minolta. And honestly Samsung had a better product in the start than Sony ever did.

No one said that this guy found the ultimate raw workflow or anything, we do not know him, we won't see him Monday for work/school/whatever, and most probably never.
What most of us said, the ones we talked at least, and I believe it was a good size of the active NX community (at least in numbers),
"IT IS JUST ONE WEEK, LET'S SEE WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN", that week passed in approximately 2 hours ago in the guys country.
I still can not comprehend what was the fuzz about and why we had to waste 14 pages for that, I waste most time reading the "accusers" and replying to bring some calmness here, that Arikhan created to me. The guy actually cost-ed me time to read 2 responses, and nothing more, not even 20 seconds ( I am a fast reader anyway).
I probably have the most interest here of anyone (except Luca that sells hardware for NX cameras) with 4 NX cameras, 8 lenses, 4 flash guns, and unlimited NX accessories, and l do not even care, I learned a lot about people here though, that was eye opening really, and people cost more than cameras, or less, it depends.
This thread should be closed pages ago, it just brought confusion and negativity, and we had a lot of that recently on different threads.
The guy is banned (I think), no one will ever going to hear from him again. Well done. What else?
