When talking about love, you need trust, but trust is based on experience and lacking experience we have faith.
I am no longer in love with Canon.
I do think that the T2i, t3i, and eos-m cameras where all great bargains at one time, I have had many Canon point and shoot cameras with some manual controls.
I use older Canon products for video still. I think bricking the camera so you cannot put magic lantern on it is a great example that Canon's contempt for its customers, magic lantern was the major reason in recent years to buy Canon for filmaking.
I think for my use they provide as little as possible, for maximum price makes them a poor value, maybe the poorest value of all dslr choices at present.
There are simply other camera choices that provide so much more, with features I value, that are not bricked at prices I can afford.
I show little interest in new Canon products and have come to expect nothing from Canon that I can afford or interest me if I could afford.
Their name stands for I will not give you a product you will use, but try and price it beyond your means.

Samsung NX1 is the correct answer.
    UHD, ISO 100, 85 mm f/1.4.
It's actually a screenshot from Premiere's fullscreen preview, so that's why it's 1920x1080 (display is using that resolution). I don't know if print screen + pasting into photoshop + exporting for web made any difference in terms or banding or anything.
I personally like it really much how this camera handles the colors. I've used GH3 and LX100 before it, and it was really difficult for me to get natural look out of those cameras. Lips were always purple.

I'm curious about this sort of assertion.  Not because higher latitudes are nice, but because viewers seldom got more than 12 stop of latitude from their cinema experiences during the first 95% of cinema history.  "Cinema style," by my own experience, isn't about the end viewer getting a ton of DR.
If you want to make a good documentary, DR and that sort of technical craftsmanship is a consideration yes, but I personally kind of think it should be farther down on the list of things to fret about.  Content demands to be king when it comes to docs.  How could it be otherwise?  If there's no story, how do awesome visuals overcome that sort of shortcoming?
When it comes to docs, I'd suggest being there and getting the coverage in the best way as possible for your project should be the main consideration.  Of course, the OP needs to balance those sorts of considerations out with what he ultimately wants IQ-wise.
Myself, I'd be perfectly content to shoot a doc on a NX1 with a 50mm lens.  If I knew I was going into a bunch of low-light situations, I'd consider a Sony.  I'd not worry about off-board video recording.  I mean, any camera with some talent behind the shooting will easily offer a "cinema" experience.

    Hi Guys,
Yes, you are right. I am the developer of the Cinema 4K app.
I have started this development, because of the limitations of the built in camera app. I have also tried other apps for 4K video recording, but at the end I decided to write my own.
I have tested it on an LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6. On LG G4 the AE lock is not working and  - because of the weaker CPU - the 4K recording sometimes drops frames when other apps are running in the background. On the Galaxy S6 there is no SD card option, however I could attach an external storage over OTA and configure the app to record there. Works good.
Cinema 4K relies on the Camera2 API. This is quite new in Android and unfortunately not too many manufacturers implemented it on their phones. It also requires Lollipop (5.0) Android version. The Google Play Store automatically selects the available devices for download the app based on the OS. This might be the reason Note 3 is not listed. I will try to set this manually if possible.
Thanks for starting this forum and your valuable feedback. I am planning to add some new features in the future, but at the same same time I would like to keep the app as simple as possible and not to overload. The main idea is to get the maximum quality from the camera and later on you can edit it on PC/Mac environment.
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Gabor

So, I've owned 2 of the 4 cameras you've mentioned: a5100 (basically the a6000) and the bmpcc.  I've sold both a little while ago, and just bought an NX1 body for $920 yesterday. Here's my take.
You still haven't given us much info on what your shooting style is, what kind of film/video work you'll be doing a majority of the time, and how much time is allocated or can be tolerated for post-production workflow.  Because as you know, all these cameras (probably except for the Gh4 if you shoot portrait, or the a6000 if you keep your grade simple) have some kind of workflow shortcoming or nuisance.  The BMPCC records RAW.  Nuff said there.  The NX1 needs h.265 > editable codec transcoding, unless you run it into a 4k recorder (which is $$$).  The GH4 can be dodgy and trickier to grade if you're shooting CineD or V, though it's marginally better than grading Sony S-gamut1 color on the a7s/a7rii even with log conversion LUTs.  Though, it seems Andrew's new GH4 LOG conversion system might help you get decent color faster and more consistently if you like his methods.  Finally, the a6000 is fairly decent to grade, but it's like the NX1 where you're grading "flat-ish" rec709 colors instead of dedicated log.

All of these cameras, considering their price point, needs to be cared for extensively in their setup during shooting in order to maximize results in post.  There's no getting around that..unless you want a Canon rebel.  So here's what I'll say.  If you don't know what kind of shooting you'll be doing, go with the GH4 and pimp it out cinematic-wise in terms of settings (EOSHD guide + other user experience info) as well as gear (speedbooster, anamorphic if you're into that kinda thing).  It's the most all around balance between all the cameras you listed, everything considered.
The BMPCC gives you the most possibility in terms of looks at the cost of rigging cost and workflow time.  I also didn't like how inconsistent RAW could be in terms of detail.  The 1080p one minute was mind-blowing, and the next it was aliasing mush.
What I'm guessing is that the NX1 is great with rec709 color but bad with possible compression artifacts and grade possibilities.  That's fine, because I can work around both of those things.  I think it actually has the same latitude as the GH4 if not a bit more, based on tests.  Also, that sensor, in a well lit scene...you could mistake it for RED footage if the person didn't know. So that's why I'm giving it a try now.  The recorded file sizes are small, making it great for archiving footage.  It also makes the best photography camera out of the entire lot.  That's a big plus if you don't care for the 5D RAW workflow.
The a5100 I had...I know I can handle the NX1 rec709 colors just fine because I was doing it with SONY colors on this camera.  It's a tiny little workhorse that really brings out the photographer mindset inside you because of how easy it is to handle.  It feels like a toy.  The a6000 isn't too far off.  The XAVC-S codec holds up VERY well if you take care of your scene.  Gradability is actually really good for what it's worth.  A consumer camera.  File sizes are small here, too.  Just beware, this camera has aliasing/moire problems similar to the BMPCC.  Take care of your scene.
But again, all of these opinions of mine are based on the types of things that I shoot and the work that I do, which is a healthy mix of personal/short film work, music videos, fashion films, and corporate event work.  BMPCC fails here for all of that.  a5100/a6000 for video isn't as attractive for this work as the GH4/NX1.  A7s is amazing but a headache for color if you're not experienced and don't want to fight with skintones with almost every scene.
    So, what do you shoot?

    Good day to all,
Just wanted to warn this good community that some people on eBay UK are wise on the fact that quite a few of us are looking for second hand Canon 1DC.
We bought 15 days ago a 1DC advertised very convincingly by a "photographer" from Worcester (UK). The 1DC  "used a handful of times, primarily for 2 weddings videos in the summer, the shutter count on the camera is 7907."  Long story short, after a few emails and a payment via Paypal, we got a tracking number from parcel2go which conveniently was totally non specific (so really, the opposite of a tracking number): no starting point address, no delivery address, no mention of the nature of the parcel, nothing at all... which is exactly what we got at the end of one stressful week. We had to call eBay and Paypal then, got refunded in full TODAY. But we consider this pretty much a miracle. At the end, we have to say that we probably did not verify thoroughly the identity of our seller i.e. his digital footprint, his web site or facebook or LinkedIn nor did we check enough the reality of the transaction. Be careful.
    Thanks for the good work.

Thank you for pointing this out as it often gets ignored: if you switch the NX1 to HD res it's almost a global shutter cam.
When Cinema5d compared shutter speeds in the following chart they had the nerve to show the NX in UHD mode only on the far right - indicating it's the clear loser, while the A7R2 is given its HD crop speed, and the Amira winning even though it's only 2k. In HD the NX would be to the left of the chart. There is a lot of bias against this camera out there.

I think you need to get an NX1 and try for yourself. The DIS is great in some situations. It's a free software addition from Samsung. It never was a selling point for the NX1. But in certain situations when you have to be handheld, or when you have particular lenses, it can come in very handy. I definitely prefer it over premiere warp stabilizer (espescially in terms of time management).

And yes there is some rolling shutter at 4K. If you really need long focal + handheld you might want to record in FULL HD since the NX1 is one of the best camera for rolling shutter management in Full HD.

Also the detail resolving is so great with the NX1 that you dont feel a lost in quality with the DIS crop. Now what's great, is that if you don't like it, you don't have to use it.

While I'm the first in line to say that there are a lot of features that samsung could (should?) add to nx1, most of which have been suggested by real users (there was a thread on this very site), I think that DIS is not crap at all. If you shoot handeld, it actually makes videos look much better. I'm all but a video expert and I just judge based on what I see. Videos with DIS in which the operator does not shake hands purposefully, are really steady imo.

It's simply a dof adaptor on steroids.  a modified bmpcc inside a larger camera body, capturing an image from medium format lenses on n oversized medium format rear projection screen (made from ground glass) through a relay lens array and prism.  think of it as a macro lens filming a medium format focusing screen.  Before the 5Dmk2 came round, people were using similar things to get a 35mm format look.  it would appear even the best options back then were pretty bad quality, and there was a lot of diy stuff too.  It would appear not one of them were refined to the level they could have been.  i decided to go mental and make an ultra refined one.  its taken about 2 years of back and fourth, improving each element of the design. the most complicated part was the relay lens design getting resolution and even exposure accross such a huge area. i think the next version will be the final unit with the final refinements to make it a system suitable for dry hire use.

I have a question, what the hell are you guys all shooting that's so significant that you'll sit here and split hairs over DR, gamma, this, that, and the other thing? Are you producing a multi-million dollar blockbuster, or, rather is it something like some shots of a trash can, may be the sky and a few trees posted on Vimeo? You take one persons findings and opinion of a camera and suddenly you're all high ranking DP's of the world, trash talking this and that because it isn't 10 bit, it doesn't have enough DR, it doesn't compare to this camera or that camera. Who cares? Show me something you've done that's so significant that I should care. I'll be waiting!

Might tweak it and do a NX500 guide in future if I can get nice results out of it.
A few weeks ago I shot an NX1 vs NX500 comparison but not got round to editing it yet.
The NX500 is still amazing bang for buck.
By the way you shouldn't dial down the contrast to -8 or -10 in-camera, it kills colour.

Someone please help him out. All these videos are making this camera look bad, surely it isn't this bad? Everything just seems wrong. Not filmic, not realistic, not attractive. But you can tell the range and quality is there, the focus through the trees is cool. Green leaves aren't that color, nowhere near either color.
I am really tempted despite this- wonder if the new NX1 product from Andrew is usable and/or relevant for this camera or whether my foggy memory serves me correct in saying there isn't enough control options? I think I read no gamma control somewhere?
Are you over exposing and then adding a lut instead of actually manipulating the three colors yourself And underexposing? I may of read somewhere that killing the saturation for the nx500 more than five is bad. I am not sure if I am stating the obvious or you are doing something over my head, please excuse me if it is the latter.

Ungraded, straight from the camera (once again, taken from Facebook, so its compressed by facebook). I was using the Canon 50mm f1.8 at the time, camera settings were Normal Gamma, -10 sat. -10 sharpenning. You really cant get any better, specially for the price...I had a Canon 600D, and its just another league, even comparing to the D800 video mode, the only thing I'd love would be a Speedbooster to make it "Full-Frame", that would make these cameras sell like hot buns !
