I have used a lot of cameras since the 90's, and the NX1 is the best ergonomically, XT2 doesn't even have touch screen. No crop on any mode or 120fps on NX1 also.

5 years ago i made a photo of the ISS with my GH3. I made it in photo mode with a old russian 1.000mm catadioptric lens. It was incredibly difficult to find the tiny point in the viewfinder and mantain the hight speed across the sky. I made a few dozens shots and one was sharp. It was pure luck at 1/125s. This is a 100% pixels crop.

You are welcome, pleasure is mine. Your vampire shorts are on a trait for lovely-freely homo-ludens and schizo fireworks - so please, keep going on.
Of course it was compliment. In your last sample, colors are not at all - at least for me - great, balanced, accurate, neither thought-out or minimalistic: for me at least they are, simply, retro trash and tend to follow short's bizare atmosphere of psychodelia.
But eoshd looks sometimes to me as really funny place of an especial sort of sanatorium: for curing ours childish wish to act as big conneseurs, competent and important judges, and participant in game You-Milk-Me-I-Milk-You as aspiring cameraman role.
Saying that, once more I vote for Jon's buying Atlas lens(as) and for Mercer's (Glen?) buying another hundred of lenses (for planting them around his countryside so becoming mythical place of great obsession). Lets our West-East moderator guru bravely steps in front of bankrupcy and be feeded in hungriness by his Vietnamese Dulcineas!
    Why?
Because from West side one so-so wise man, S. J, said as ultimative advice: Stay hungry, stay foolish.
And from East side, one wise man, A.T, said: Let someone shout that pyramids should be built! Even if we do not build them, it is important to nourish the great dream!
You see how boring and funny-in-fiasco-attempt  pathetic I am? So please, laugh at me... and shoot more polaroid extravaganza pretending to expect appraisal as they are great color achievements!

I think Jon looks for different things in a lens than some of us, which is perfectly fine of course. Seems he likes a perfect lens, he has a track record of owning and shooting with some of the best lenses for the system, incl. the Panasonic 12mm f/1.4, 42.5mm f/1.2, Olympus 75mm f/1.8, 25mm f/1.2, Sigma DC DN 30mm f/1.4, Veydra Mini Primes etc, where it's all about resolving power and sharpness, where they are absolutely smashing it, you can't really argue that.
It just doesn't seem he 'gets' people that put character first however (which is funny itself because he didn't feel Phil A's footage had any, but okay)... like shooting a 17.5mm f/0.95 wide open or using anything vintage. Takes offence himself when people find a lens to render 'boring', meaning not that he himself has shot something boring, but that the lens has a reliable and clinical look of perfection to it (maybe that is the sort of 'character' he wishes to see, to me that's prefering a vodka over a whiskey, where as well, nothing is wrong to put one over the other, personal preference and all). To that person. Yet you know, it's okay if people aren't on the same page, an opinion is something subjective, there's no one true way... and one should really be accepting of that and letting others do their thing. To me it matters more that someone is having fun shooting and makes great content in terms of mood, composition, 'story telling' however limited applicability perhaps. If you have blinders on and can only tell if someone's work is good by pixelpeeping, then you might be missing the point (but atleast you'd have every pixel). So I personally was able to appreciate said video and post, because it isn't always the main goal to capture something pixel perfect, but to capture something that elicits something beyond that. And Jon's said it before himself... he might've shot and uploaded a video with the white balance, framerate or audiosync off... and never finds anyone in the comments complaining and pointing it out. That's all because they look through the pixel peeping and rather just focus on the essence. If your content is good, it's probably good because of the bigger picture, not just the individual pixel. And even if you don't see it that back with someone else's work the least you could do is give them some constructive feedback... the lowest thing you could do is dismiss what they've done altogether and regard it as someone clowning around (discouraging them to ever post something again). A bit of mutual respect goes a long way.

iamoui reacted to Kisaha in Does the Hack really make things look different?
I usually do not use any bitrate hack. I prefer NOT over heating my sensor, to use less cards, cheaper, and not super expensive ones, and to squeeze more power from my batteries. These 3 are some of the greatest benefits of the NX1, and not one mirrorless is better than NX1. GH5 is equally good in heat management, but to achieve this is bigger and +50% heavier than the NX1, with a lot smaller sensor; also you need top speed cards and eats batteries quite a lot.
I have noticed more heat in the camera, bigger battery consumption and of course bigger files with the hack, and I decided that if I need a different tool, I just use/rent a different camera. For the price range and it's tier, NX is still great and top in some aspects (as the ones mentioned earlier, plus ergonomics, some great lenses, megapixel count, 120fps, 15fps photography, SAMOLED monitors, etc).
My impression is that there is a slight improvement from 120-160mbps (never went above that) and for smaller projects, it probably worths the extra GBs, but it ain't 10bit, not 4:2:2, you don't even gain better low light performance (biggest NX disadvantage vs newer APS-C cameras). Bitrates and specs do not tell the whole story. One of my favorite cameras to use and produce is the Canon C100mkII. Do you know it's bitrate?!
There are a lot of posts with details, explanations, and tests, you should read some of that stuff. I would expect @Omer Sehayek above to notice some differences, probably on a more complex forest or sea scene. He can post one still from 80 and another from 180mbps, but I have the same card and I am not sure if it can reach as far as 220 WITH sound, but definitely I am not a mod/hack expert in anyway, on the contrary.

Dear friends, just coming back to the title of this thread.. I have both, Sony A7s II and Samsung NX1, and I know very well both.
Yesterday I have tried for first time the Zeiss Distagon 28 f/2 Zf.2 on NX1, and my friends, in the screen of my laptop I've seen God. Great 3D, amazing colors, incredibly alive images, an interstellar trip. Never seen something like that on my Sony A7s II.
And the world still ignores this prodigious camera called NX1.
I know, I should get over it, but I cannot.

It is an interesting article about mirrorless cameras, and a confirmation of my view that one of the major strengths of the NX system were the -not so many, but most quite good- lenses.
"Sony — NEX is history. But so, it appears, is the A5xxx. Really? The crop sensor Sony line is now a series of three cameras each of which is a "stick more sensor tech in it" version of the former? I fail to see how this is a useful strategy. Things that were wrong with the A6000 are still wrong with the A6500 (and A6300 in between). And when all is said and done these cameras seem a lot more GameBoy than anything else on the market. Don't get me wrong, I like them, but...
Note to Sony executives: You're making the same mistake Nikon made with DX, and  Canon made with EF-S and is making with EF-M. Samsung made lenses for their NEX-clone that clearly bettered what you put out. You can put all the tech you want at the sensor, but it's the optics out front that are hurting your image quality, not the sensor. What I'd give for Samsung's 16mm f/2.4, 20mm f/2.8, 30mm f/2, 45mm f/1.8, 60mm f/2.8, and 85mm f/1.4 in a Sony E-mount.  And no, your Sony 16mm, 20mm, 30mm don't even come close."

unfortunately, even someone mentioning the NX system is news for us! It would be interesting if anyone could make a similar evaluation for the NX system in the end of 2017, almost 2018. I see the system being used from some of us until 2020 at least.

Most of the replies on DPR just arrogant and insulting.
DPR wasn't paid by Samsung in anyway, until recently people speculated about being paid by Sony, but their last reviews of Sony are very fair, I would say.
NX1 was just cool, everyone with a right mind could see all the potential through the specs, the innovation, traditional ergonomics, a modern hybrid that together with the S lenses was just unbeatable at the time, I do not see why someone had to pay money for someone to see that.
GH5 is not even 6 months old in my country, and I see product cycles on higher end cameras to increase. I wouldn't expect a new GH before 2019, and that is when I expect to change system.
I have all the lenses I need, I have 4 cameras with all form factors, I have 28 BSI photos and 4K from from 6.5K downsampling, no overheating, best battery in mirrorless, best menu system, a great EVF, good Super AMOLED touch screens, still best wireless  implementation (GH5s is very good too), great color, ergonomics.
what it doesn't have is great ISO performance, IBIS and 10 bit.
The first is the most important for me, we have fast primes and the 2f S zoom, but 3200 and 6400 would be just brilliant,
IBIS I do not care, and Crane V2 is cheap these days and 10 bit is very specialized and one has to have the total workflow to do anything with it.

Most of the discussion in this thread proves my point that climate change isn't up for debate and very good science will be ignored as a result.
As a liberal creative person I can't even so much as ask a damn question, let alone consider arguments outside my liberal bubble, without the finger pointing of moral condemnation from fellow liberals.
When the simple act of considering some related issues and problems is considered "denial", followed by a lot of frenzied arm-waving idignation and accusations of being alt-right, that is a major problem - and we see it in our politics every day.
This is really unhelpful if the human race is to solve the issues of managing our climate and understanding it better.
Today, we either fit in one camp or the other. To satisfy a consensus you have to either flat out deny climate change exists, or claim that it is all proven, settled and we know everything. Anything else is heresy.
The fact is we don't know it all... we aren't considering some related issues and problems with clean energy sources and impact on agriculture, farmers, food and lives.
This is too complex a problem to pledge allegiance to one of just two opposing dumb football teams and attack it with a tribal mentality.
It's sad to see people do so on this thread without even having watched the film.

New Orleans is half the size it was. Climate change is entirely real. People in my country are living it and dying it. There is no debate about it. I don't need a lecture from some ancient austrian economist in a dumb suit to know that the glacier i can see from my house is shrinking. i don't need a fucking documentary liberal or conservative to tell me what i can feel when i step outside, what 99% of scientists agree upon. this doc can go twist for all i care. and so can all these "debaters" enjoy your doom, you made it.

I went out on Saturday to to do a couple pick up shots because my first attempt was a little noisier than I wanted and I wanted to get this scene before the water gets too cold. So I took out the Canon 35mm f2... what a lens.
Anyway here is a screengrab from the shoot and a test color grade after I processed the footage. I'm still hoping to test the 3.5K builds soon, but right now... for my needs... the 1080p is more than enough.

Not to mention using raw on a paid shoot would be a risk most wouldn't (shouldn't) take. I've done it.. but I'm not into those risks anymore.

As it is, the S is 16-50mm, both wider, and has much more reach at the tele end. It is stabilized, with very good protection from the elements.
The 18-35 is faster, but it is not wide enough, as I use my S and Other lenses, extensively at 16mm, and not tele enough for wid ish portraits.
I would be much more interested on a wider one, like the Fuji 10-24 but with 2.8f, or a 2-2.8f, an ultra wide S lens, that was my dream when I bought the NX1! A lens like that would be on my camera 85% of the time.
Now, the adapter issue. I told before,  not a while ago, that a NX adapter to whatever mount, is necessary, as we are moving through the years and are no new NX cameras manufactured.
A lot of people took that wrong, I am not going to defend my position. For me is obvious that an active adapter to whatever mount, is necessary for a dying brand. As cameras will become obsolete, or die first, there will be a lot of thousands of lenses around, probably for cheap, that will beg to be used on other cameras. This is a serious business as well. There will be a lot of buyers, more so than the speed boosted ones.
Right now I have 4 NX, so I am set for the next couple of years, until the industry moves up a bit,  but I also have 7-8 lenses, that I would like to use with a different camera. The NX lens collection was an excellent one, a lot of people underestimated it, but in reality it a great small selection of lenses.
12-24 is my go to lens lately. Small pancakes like the 16/30 ones. The fish eye is my second favorite Lens. The workhorse 16-50S. My favorite 45mm. Very good and cheap generic ones, like the PZ and the 50-200. There is an amazing 85mm and a very good macro. It is a shame so much good glass to go to waste forever.
My dream would be a Nikon-Samsung co operation and an official active adapter, working on S35 mode on the new Nikon full frame mirrorless. Nikon is moving away from Sony, maybe a strategical co operation with Samsung will be their saving boat, and Samsung can sell a few hundreds of thousands of ram, CPU, sensors, and whatever Nikon needs.
