What’s funny is this camera is barely even out, And it is already redeemed DOA.
 
Anyone here old enough to remember A7S2 launch? There was like one batch and then 4-6 months back order. Back then the tsunami was claimed to have disrupted Sony’s sensor facilities. 
 
I have no idea what the stock situation is with R5 or if a recall is planned but we are barely through a global pandemic and COVID19 did cause Canon Japan factories to shut down.

Every camera reviewer  has been saying the last eight years is that canon has to change, they can't go on being so conservative with their specs.   And finally they do it and everyone turns on them . Y'all just got what you wanted right?

There has obviously been more talk about how quickly the Canon EOS R6 and Canon EOS R5 overheat when recording video, especially when shooting 8K or 4K60p (along with other framerates). The second issue a lot of videographers have is how long the cameras need to cool down once they reach an overheating threshold.
So is Canon going to do anything about it?
I think so, and I’ve been talking to a few sources and reading between the lines a bit. Canon released its first statement about the heat concerns back on July 16 and has been relatively silent since.
I have been told that Canon is actively working on solutions to increase record times and reduce cooldown times. What those solutions are is unknown at this point. I imagine part of it is firmware, but are they also looking at a hardware fix?
I have no been told a couple of times that the 2nd allocation of camera bodies will be delayed. Adorama told me it was going to be a significant delay, but that they didn’t know why or how long the delay would be.
A reader I was chatting with on the Canon Rumors discord server was having an unrelated issue with the EOS R5 and was sent this by the Canon Store support.
“The R5 was sold out within hours after launch. The next shipment is expected this November“

 

I'm pretty excited by the possibility of shooting 8K Raw video and doing stills and motion all at once . With DPAF, Raw and Image stabilization,   I think the stills from 8K raw are going to be very nice . Shooting higher than 180 shutter and smoothing in post is a break through at least for me.  I'm enjoying it already very much on 1dxmkiii already. 

Aah the R5 hits the shelves tomorrow. So we might get some more tests this weekend.

AF is really good the wakesurfing at 1.6 is using face tracking and with the rope in between at the beginning and the various move it did not loose it.
The rest is using focus square or focus with assist points.
With things that are mostly in front of the scene I find the large rectangular very useful as they can move left and right and still be in focus like skaters or mtb

Haha I just need 1-2 mins. I’ll be testing the issues myself if my pre order ships. Coming from zcam e2 I’m looking for the ibis benefits, full frame benefits, Af, and every so often the 8k option.
if it can match or beat the image quality of the e2 and provide Ibis and af I’ll be happy. I don’t shoot wedding or interviews. But I do use my camera in the sun / outdoors.

Certainly debatable as of two days ago ☺️

RED color and footage holds up.  RED blows away BM across the board. 
Black Magic footage is always graded away from natural color.  Always.  The same with the GH5.  Give me one color grade that has a natural look and let's see how these cameras hold up. 
 
 
 

That’s in all the groups I’ve visited. Each group has a set of “patriotic” members who bash other cameras, make tree and backyard videos with their small tilta wooden rig , theorize on what if’s  and no real footage.

I agree that the body should be a bit more durable and maybe they should have made it more sensor in a box, but the camcorder body is a proven design conducive to out of the box filming. In addition 
Grant said that this release is for the high end and all we can do now is watch what happens with this camera. 

Going to agree with this as well. I have never really seen a Blackmagic camera on a legit shoot. It's usually always Arri, RED, or Canon. At my old job Canon c300 was the go to for eng/documentary footage. In all other shoots I have been on its RED or Arri (mostly Arri at this point). Can the ursa line shoot fantastic video? Yes. Is it better than Arri or RED? Definitely not better than Arri, but I do think that the ursa mini with Fairchild sensor looks better in many cases than some RED cams. But their is a brand problem for sure. 
I have to go back to my previous point that their plastic outdated body design doesn't help them much in any area. It feels and looks cheap. You cant take it serious. Ursa might not feel as cheap as the pockets,  but it sure does look dated. Also, just because the pocket line isn't used much in high end work, doesn't mean that it doesn't affect the entire brand. They look like fisher price toys and when you bring up Blackmagic in high end shoots, they are usually kinda laughed at for being cameras for amateurs. I am NOT saying that is accurate nor do I agree with the attitude, but that is the attitude they have. Lastly, if we look at communities around a brand - Blackmagic community is dead last. They are as an overall community (not targeting everyone),  the most immature/amateur group of the big brands. Their Facebook groups and forums are littered with attack memes toward other brands, horrible amateur videos of their girlfriends in slow motion with crappy LUTs, and 98 percent of the posts are about some creative way to try and rig the atrociuous bodies of the pocket line. Most of them have never been on an actual shoot. I mean, just look at their groups over the last 24 hours, people are freaking out about the URSA being expensive at $10k, which just shows they have no idea what the real value of a cinema camera is. This all adds up to a brand image and amazing camera or not, Blackmagic have an image of a cheap brand that shots good video for amateur filmmakers on a budget and Arri and RED are for high end work. Its going to take a lot of work for Blackmagic to turn that around.

The color separation is fantastic - distinctive browns. yellows and blacks which don't loose subtle color shifts from lighting even when crushed.   I think there is something special going on here and I will love to hear from folks on how they feel it grades compared to other cameras.
