photographer-at-large reacted to DBounce in Gimbal or motion control?
We do not own the sliderkamera 6 axis, but we do own both motion controllers and gimbals. The gimbals are great if you are filming on the go and you are not the subject. They are no good if you are filming yourself. The motion controller makes more sense in this case. Granted the motion controller is also useful as a second shooter.
We use both the Ronin S and Edelkrone Motion Kit with HeadPlus. Both are quick to setup. The Edelkrone can be aimed by hand, which is a real timesaver.
If I could have only one, it would be the motion kit. Why? The motion kit captures cinematic motion every time. It never makes mistakes because the human factor is removed from the performance. Every move is repeatable; which makes for the possibility to create some very interesting vfx scenes.

photographer-at-large reacted to DBounce in Auto Focus Testing Canon 1DXMK2 Vs Nikon Z6
I'm going to share some insight with you. After using the Z6 some more... under very controlled conditions, I can reveal the following: when it nails the shot, if you are close to the subject... within two or three feet,  and if you are shooting at f1.8... to let the light in,  it can be distracting. Why? Because in all honesty,  the DOF is just too shallow. So much so that the entire face of a subject cannot be in focus.  The solution to this is to stop down. But this means sacrificing the blurred backgrounds and giving up any lowlight advantage that may have been gained by shooting full frame.
While shallow DOF works for still images, when used in situations where the subject is moving it quickly becomes a distraction. It makes it hard to draw the viewers attention to the subject matter, as the focus is just too narrow. You end up directing their view to eyelash vs eye, as opposed to face vs hand. I find myself stopping down to F4 to kill the effect. But then you can say bye bye to any lowlight advantages.
I think there is a reason that the vast majority of productions are shot with S35. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking it's because these production houses are somehow "unaware" of full frame... or that they could not afford to shoot full frame. The reason they don't shoot full frame is because they don't want to... plain and simple. They understand that the DOF is too distracting... so it hurts the story... and everything is supposed to support the story. That is after-all the whole point. The production only exist to tell the story. They also know that any field of view advantage of shooting full frame is irrelevant if they are shooting with anamorphic lenses... which is always an option when you have a real budget.
I'm going to post a quick video that is an attempt at some cinematic shots... again comparing the Z6 to the 1DXMk2. It was not my intention to demonstrate the difference that the shallower DOF produces, and truthfully, at first I didn't notice it. I only saw the bokeh. But once you see it... you just can't unsee it.
Like many here I'm trying to learn and understand the art of story telling. So this has been very enlightening for me. While I believe FF may have its place for use in cinema, I suspect it's not a look that most are going to embrace as their mainstay.

I do have the upgrade but not used it yet.
The previous one worked really well and only had a couple of minor issues. Overall it was awesome.
I started with the first one but didn’t really get to grips with it.
Looking to use the new one extensively in the new year.

Bit the bullet and ordered one. Did you get your upgrade yet? This is I think their third or fourth try at this system, so I am thinking the newest model should be about as good as it can get right now compared to the competition.
I understand that the gearing on all the new motor driven motion control hardware is also upgraded to prevent any slop that the older hardware had.

Did you set infinity focus on the Viltrox, that could be the issue. You need to turn the optical element inside to make sure infinity focus is correct. I have the Nikon Version and no problem on a Pana M43. Still waiting the BMPCC4k to try it on though. Maybe the Viltrox covers the sensor a bit too much. Their factor is wrong it is not 0.72x but a little bit more.

    An interesting read:  http://www.focuspulling.com/bmpcc4k-learning/
For example, "Bob insists that the Pocket 4K’s sensor is not the same manufacturing part as the one in the GH5S", Bob being Bob Caniglia of Blackmagic Design.
Also, on P4K ("Quattro Kappa" for Italians) memory cards and SSD, USB-C variants, audio XLR and 4 mics on the camera, bluetooth remote control, Extended Video, dual ISO, shutter angle vs. speed, window(ed) shooting, etc.

    What a shame.
Who are these "deep state" BMD insiders that are here pushing an agenda ? Myself and Hook.  Who else ?  What do you guys think, there's a plot and conspiracy ?  You guys don't wat these contributions I guess ?
I'm here because I've been a member here for years and I'm on many camera forums and this is just another one I like to read and contribute to where I can.
I want to know where all the clowns that were saying on this thread that the world was going to end because BMD didn't have any footage out yet and that definitely meant something was very wrong and the shipping date would be missed.
All I've seen so far is that a planned marketing campaign by BMD that has gone off the way they intended.
They commissioned some actual filmmakers (not bloggers or camera reviewers) that make certain types of film (natural history, action sports, nature) to make some films and then they released them and the camera originals.
Then they gave some cameras, complete with some boxes as if they were new to some secondary users, and whilst having them also under NDA, got them to shoot some test footage and allowed some of them to release that footage.  Again.  Not reviewers.  Not bloggers.
About a thousand reviewers and camera jockeys have done a bunch of made up comparisons and VLOGS based on existing footage. (hey I love seeing my footage being butchered by grading nerds)
    Think about it.
No blogger or reviewer ANYWHERE has gotten a functioning camera to shoot with as far as I can tell.  Because that's not what BMD want to do with their marketing of this camera.  This isjust marketing 101.
They need people using the cameras in the many difference specific sectors of the market will use the camera.  Camera reviews aren't part of that plan. (though it hasn't stopped people doing it based on existing footage)
Until it's shipping, it's their choice to give it to whomever they want.
I'm tired of this entitled bullshit.
I recently left a few facebook groups I was on for this camera, and I'm doing the same here.  Frankly it's juvenile and I don't need the agro I sure hate explaining what should be obvious.
    There's no slight.
BMD have a marketing department and they have a plan and it doesn't involve forums, bloggers or camera reviewers.  That's not a snub, that's just them marketing the product in the way that they see fit.

IS it just me or the new new Nikon z cameras are oddly close enough in features to Samsung NX1?
there was a rumour back in the day regarding Nikon had bought Samsung tech when they decided to exit the camera market, remember that?
Now look at the similarities between cameras feature ( of course apart of the sensor size):
    - codec bitrate, almost the same as nx1 after hack
    - rezolution and fps both in 4k and 1080p - just keep in mind z cameras launching 5 years later than nx1 :)))))
    - even the lenses are having the same design and front size 72mm. Even the neame is the same "S" line
and there are more feature to look into but i don't wanna sound paranoic.
maybe is just me though! what do you think?
it's a shame that the 10bits are just external and there is no 60p in 4k. That would have been the perfect combo. I am still struggling to upgrade my 5 years old Nx1, apart of the sensor size.

The problem I've found with a lot of these reviews is that some people using the system haven't made the simple "trouble shooting" adjustments when a problem arises. At first, my slides were very jumpy but I fixed it with a simple tightening of the screw in the slide module.
The system isn't perfect but they deliver really astonishing results, if you put patience and creativity into your shots.
