Interesting the spread in the Blackmagic Pocket cameras.
Roger is doing great stuff at Lens Rentals. Really admirable.

Film is still a desired medium for long time storage. Nobody knows the media of the future but film can always be digitized. That's why it's still a relevant medium beyond acquisition.

It's not going to be treated like film on a shoot, because with digital you can quickly offload a reel to affordable storage via USB.
However it is treated like film in the way you archive 8K RAW material. After a few years you will need a building the size of the Paramount studios lot to put the hard drives

The tech for an ideal cameras is out there for me it just needs to be combined.
    Arri color
    Arri Dynamic range
    Canon PDAF
    Sony lowlight
    RED or BM RAW
Just advance things so all that tech can be put in a small body say like an Osmo pocket(could be bigger but you get the idea) with a nice built in ff 28-70 2.8 equivalent, oh yeah with 4k 120fps and 2k up to 240fps

    😄😄😄

You're saying I need to actually come to the country to understand what's happening here?
I was there two years ago, my 73 year old Dad got pickpocketed within the first few hours, lesson learned!

Because black magic markets their cameras as cinema cameras. Panasonic falls in with the rest of the DSLR type cameras, which all have superior auto focus.

I am curious to know the story behind the Italian one. Did the old dictator have a bit of a stroke or just out of it on drugs?

Red do have multiple patents assigned.  Some include claims that are worded very broadly, and some do include quite a lot of specifics.
Compare the claims in these two (they use the typical obfuscated language and structure that make patents look impenetrable):
    https://patents.google.com/patent/US9596385B2/
    https://patents.google.com/patent/US8872933B2/
Note, for example, how claim 1 in the "electronic apparatus" patent lists the very specific way a blue or red channel is predicted from nearby green values. Contrast this with the wording in the "video camera" patent's Claim 1, which pretty much covers any raw camera with a resolution of 4K or more (compressed or not).
Red do have patents on codec specifics, but most of Red's camera/apparatus/device patents mentioning compression explicitly list a bunch of compression approaches as possible means to achieve said compression. They are, informally speaking, patenting the idea of implementing the (compressed) RAW recording camera, rather than any specific compression technique. It is hardly a coincidence that Blackmagic's own "raw" codec, a response to Red's patent violation claims, appears to be designed so that it isn't actually raw.
Now, compression itself is an extensively studied field. It is, very, VERY hard to come with significant innovations in this field. A "raw" codec will use any of a few well known image compression techniques and adapt it for Bayer data. That is all there is to raw compression. Raw codecs are universally rehashing old ideas, and (slightly, if at all) differing in the details of data formatting and layout, which has little to do with actual compression technique. Yes, you can pre-process raw data in a bunch of ways, and these are usually (and I use this as an euphemism for "always") trivial for anyone "skilled in the art" (with being "non-trivial" assumed as a prerequisite for patentability).
For the curious, probably the biggest advancement in compression in the last two decades is ANS which, incidentally, was explicitly released into the public domain by its creator, Jarek Duda, with the intention to prevent any patents around it.

There are companies that use commonly used components and delete the writings with the Dremel when they are laser-marked or with the solvent when screen-printed ... (because I did).
There is always the smartest of all that sometimes gets caught with fingers in the jam.
After all, just buy the sensors (Sony or whoever you want), buy an Arm processor, some components for I-O, a good electronic engineer, a software engineer, assemble everything ... sell

Internal compressed raw is patented by Red.
( I dont't know if it only applies to lossy or also lossless compressed )
Uncompressed raw is not patented, so Sigma can make the cinema dng uncompressed camera without patent violations.
The good thing about uncompressed is that right now storage is still expensive and we want compressed, in the future uncompressed will be wanted as storage will be cheap. and therefore we are now in  a transition period.

I agree with @Mattias Burling, this doesn’t really “sell” the quality of the camera. In fact, the entire footage page they published doesn’t either. Could easily be filmed with a GH5 and I wouldn’t notice.
This is mostly down to the filmmakers though and not the camera, however it’s clear that the gulf between camera quality is much less and pretty much every new release doesn’t have that “special sauce” to differentiate them enough.
I like Blackmagic but they should go to a modular ZCAM box design. The poor battery, fixed screen and odd shape make it a no-go for me. This would be an absolute no brainer if you could just pull it out the box and shoot without having to bolt on a few bricks to make it work reliably.
Lots of options these days - but also in these days I’m thinking far less about my cameras choices than ever.

I own a Canon EOS M6 with the EV-DC1 viewfinder and thought I would try shooting video with an old Canon FD-series 35mm lens and a EOS to FD adapter.

Here is the result. It's not the greatest video ever, but it is what it is. I had no difficulty nailing focus because the focus peaking feature on the M6 is excellent and easy to use. Plus, when your subject is more than 6 metres (20ft) away, the focus ring on the lens will be (or should be) at infinity so that everything will be in sharp focus anyway. If there's anything I've learned from this experience, it's that auto focus is great, but it's an aid and not always a total replacement for good focussing skills.
If the rumoured Canon EOS M6 Mark II does end up having uncropped 4K, I might pick up a Mark II body so I can shoot in 4K. If not, I'll get a M50 body and some C-mount lenses with an adapter so I can compensate for the extreme crop in 4K.

Black Mirror has several such episodes.
Most of the younger people I meet in sets are seriously underperforming while overperforming in social media (taking selfies with the actors, loose focus all the time and checking their phones constantly). I am not even on social media, and they had super amazing photos holding long boom poles and whatnot, but they couldn't boom to save their lives..
When I started 20 years ago, we were shooting 3 camera setups with NO cut in soap operas. Now we shoot 2 cameras and we cut, and still they can not do it!
I am trying the last few years to find a boom op that I can keep, I am trying to educate them with all my experience and knowledge (that didn't happen in the older generation), and still they underperform so bad, that they jeopardize my job. Now, I am trying to find someone in my generation, or a generation older than me, and I am talking with even 55-60 years old boom ops!
It is what it is. When they will be 40-45 years old, none of our opinion will matter because they will live in their own world. Older generations f@$€ed up big time anyway, that is why I have a small hope that this time it can get better, except the climate, and the A.I, and the Ebola, and the overpopulation, and the nuclear disasters..kind of scary, and I have kids of my own..but I still have some hope in humanity, maybe because of those said kids.
