I wouldn't take any artistic advice from anyone on this thread, or from any forum in general if i were you.  I think you;re on the right track as you are.  Clearly you've done your work creating a style, a look.  The whole thing captures that b-movie vibe.  It feels like you made an effort to make it look as if it's not meant to be funny, but is - the reason old b-movies are entertaining.  watching films of this style you put yourself into a different mindset and absorb the film how it's meant to be absorbed.  The critique I see above is kind of like a random guy with no film making experience going up to Tarrantino and Rodriquez and telling them that the cut is shabby and the image quality looks bad on Death Proof / Planet Terror.  Missing the whole point.
my take on the politics of the thread... It was nice to see a piece shot completely on an iscorama.  It illustrates to those worrying about lack of wide angle anamorphic solutions that with a relatively low investment of lenses ( for the price you paid for your iscorama and the taking lenses you'd only be able to rent a single panavision c series lens for half a week) and a bit of hard work and creativity you can shoot something that looks like it was shot in the late 1970's and cost 500k.  and the bonus for you is that it has driven traffic to your film.   I'm looking forward to seeing the entire film

jeffpb7, love the look of it! However the audio is messed up :-/ I'd focus on that next time.

This looks really good, Jeff!  I shot a feature ten years ago for about the same budget and I WISH I'd had the set up you have here (that was back in the days of mini-DV).
If you want some constructive criticism, I'd say start your trailer with some wider shots to establish the environment and mood before cutting to close ups of people talking.  (Unless of course, it's a famous person, then absolutely start with them.)
Audio is a beast all its own and will probably take more of your time than the edit.  I'd suggest enlisting some experienced help as soon as possible, especially if you don't feel like you have an "ear" for it.  The audience will totally look past imperfections in the photography, but they are absolutely unforgiving on the sound...

It's pretty great. Visually awesome. I personally would massage the audio a bit more, especially the sound effects. Even if it is a cheesy b-movie vibe with blatant sound library effects, they should still be mixed correctly. Trust people to take notice anyway.
i would also cut almost half of the lines that each character says at the beginning. "Is that your woman out there in the car?" "Yes sir." "She said y'all just moved to the area." "Are you sure this is the same house?" "Ted said it needed a little work." "Is that his trailer?" "We're gonna have to toughen you up me n you gonna be neighbors." "What?" See how that flows and still makes sense without the other lines?
That's one thing I had to work hard to teach myself when editing my own work: if a line is unnecessary, you cut it. Even if you wrote it, doesn't matter. The dialogue has to have a conversational flow, and that means timing things right too.

Here's the trailer for a movie I shot last year using an Iscorama/helios/jupiter9/minolta 35mm and FS700 with Blade recorder. It's a no budget, lowbrow, dark comedy. It's no Oscar winner, but it's my first feature film and it's almost ready for distribution(hopefully).

I really enjoyed that. It looks cool and was funny and well cut, the trailer made me want to see more. It reminds me of Bad Taste and Brain Dead for some reason.

I'd pay to see this at the theatre.  looks superb.  well done man

It sounds like some here don;t quite 'get' the movie.  It's not meant to be serious.  I see a lot of great humor here - the characters are great - memorable looks to the main guy.   The selection of an isocrama and the old russian lenses definitely adds to the authenticity of the piece.  the fact that you worked around the limitations of anamorphic is probably why it looks so good.   the cut and the offset audio sync is a great touch.
Granted I wouldn't have watched if it had not stated that it was shot on a 'rama, but that's the whole point.  People shoot anaorphic to separate themselves from the guys shooting on L series and grading to try and make it look like what you;ve achieved.  Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks everyone, for the kind words and constructive criticism… in case you're wondering, this movie is not a serious one. It's a ridiculous redneck comedy, so the acting isn't so bad, once you realize how ridiculous it is. I shot it for 10k(actors and locations), doing all of pre and post solo. My wife and I shot the movie. I also had to act in it, because I couldn't afford to pay someone to play my part(redneck in the truck). Sometimes there was no one behind the camera. I hope I can get some help on my next one, which is a lot crazier than this one, but it's hard to find dedicated filmmakers in Sacramento, CA.

I sold my FS700 and bought a KineMINI, and I'm very happy I did. The only thing I miss are the ND filters. Cineform in 4K would be nice, because the trascoding takes a while, but at least we have Cineform in 1080p, 2K, 3K, and S16mm crop mode. Hopefully they update the codec to 64bit, like Rob said. Maybe we can get some higher frame rates too in 4K. The controls are much easier to manage than the FS700. At first the wheel was a little weird, but now it's very easy to manage. For me, it works great as a run and gun type camera too… definitely more ergonomic than the FS700, especially with a V-mount battery on back. You can mount an audio recorder(plugged into KineMini) on one side(1/4 20 mounts on both sides) and a wireless receiver on the other with quick release plates, and it works great.

Yes, the video is nice, but as for the anamorphic film look, I don't really see it, especially in the wider angles, except for the flairs. I think the same video shot with an Iscorama would look a lot more like film. I wish they would have tried to copy the Iscorama. I actually like the 1.5x and orange flairs a lot better.

This is a quick test I did at the locations where we're shooting a feature in 2 weeks. The Iscorama was a little off center, but it's ok for a first test. Natural lighting only. Quick grade.

There's something missing, like it's too sharp. Maybe it's the 1.3x... I like the 1.5x and 2x a lot more. It doesn't have that organic look like the Iscorama. To me it looks like a cropped standard lens. The flares are to thin too. If they could copy the Iscorama but with a blue flare, I would definitely buy one... maybe 2.

jeffpb7 got a reaction from Zmu in Iscorama re-lubricating and close focus mod
Hello, I'm about to modify my Iscorama(original) for close focus. I saw the instructions in another post, and it seems pretty straight forward, but I was wondering if anyone had pictures of this process, just in case?

I was also wondering if anyone has any ideas for a new stop, so the front doesn't accidentally screw off? I guess I could use the follow focus gear to stop the rotating, but it would be nice to not have to rely on the gear, since I won't always have a follow focus attached.

One more thing... the focus ring on my lens is a little stiff for the follow focus, so I'd like to re-lubricate it. Can I do this when I do the modification? Can someone give me instructions on the process, and what type of grease I should use? I'd like it to rotate very easily.

Thanks a lot for your help!

jeffpb7 got a reaction from dahlfors in ISCORAMA ON EBAY - POSSIBLE SCAM
I wanted to buy this Iscorama 42 on Ebay for $2000, MINT. The buyer wanted me to email him my name, address and ebay user name, so I did. He said he was going to give my info to Ebay, and said I would have to pay through wire transfer, but it was protected by ebay buyers protection. I then received an invoice in my personal email, allegedly from Ebay with the address aw-confirmation@ebuy-protection-ebay.co.uk, but didn't receive a message in my Ebay account. I called Ebay and they said that they don't provide buyers protection for wire transfers, and any message sent to my personal email from them, would also be send to my Ebay messages. So, I didn't buy it(or get scammed). Now the lens has been re-posted on ebay, and has my zip code where the estimated delivery time is? It also says the lens is located in the states, but the seller wanted me to send the money to London. Also, his email has changed... it was lazerfree75@gmail.com, now it's serto1629@gmail.com. Maybe he's legit and I'm just being paranoid, but nothing adds up, so be careful. Jeff
