earnesync reacted to Jeroen de Cloe in Export incoming footage from Resolve, which Codec?
Hey,
I'm really happy with my new Pocket Cinema camera. It's refreshing to see RAW and Prores footage. Hard to go back to my GH2 now, even with the smaller sensor size.
Anyway I was wondering to witch codec I should export footage in Resolve, to have FCPX treat my footage as RAW. I prefer to color it inside FCPX and FilmConvert plugin, bypassing Resolve as much as possible (even avoid roundtripping with proxy footage).
If I'm correct I should not use a regular code such as ProRes because it 'destroys' the RAW process.
Thanks!!!
ps: I hope FCPX will support compressed DNGs in the December update.

earnesync reacted to AlessandroSteri in BMCC - looking for the widest option.
Hi everybody,
i'm going to buy a Black magic Cinema Camera EF mount and i really need to know the widest solution i have for it.
At the moment i have a tokina 11-16 that is good on my t2i but it's not enough on the 2,3 crop factor of black magic.
Do you know if there is any wider solution for my camera that is not fish eye?
I've read about la7200, does it make a litte bit wider? it shoul be 1.33 times wider right?
and last question, my tokina has 77mm diameter, and i've found a good offer for la7200 but i've read it is 72mm what do i have to do?? i need an adaptor? will it work at 11mm or it gonna make vignette??
thank you so much!!
best

earnesync reacted to Smeeth123 in Concerns about my new BMPCC
Hi all,
I've been shooting on a GH2 for a couple years now and I was super excited to finally get my Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera last week. I don't see any of the sensor blooming that some users have reported but I do have a couple of concerns, and I was hoping that someone out there could take a look at this clip and see if I'm just being overly critical or not. I'm just slightly concerned there may be something wrong my with camera. The footage was shot using an SLR Magic 12mm T1.6 set to T4, with ISO at 800 in Film mode. The footage is entirely ungraded with internal mic volume set to 100%
First, I'm noticing some strange electronic noise from the built-in mic. It's relatively low in the signal to noise ratio, but it seemed rather odd. I doubt that it would be much of a hindrance (especially since the mic is pretty crappy anyway and I would only ever use it for scratch audio). Still I thought I'd ask if anyone else out there has noticed this on their camera.
Secondly, I'm finding the footage to be somewhat less sharp and generally less aesthetically pleasing than what I've shot on my GH2 with the same lenses. It's entirely possible that I'm simply rubbish at grading (I haven't touched Resolve yet, played around a bit with Film Convert and the Antler Black Magic Plugin for FCP X) but I'm finding that footage shot by others seems far more vibrant and sharp than what I've been producing.
If there are any other BMPCC users out there who have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Matt

We are very thankfull for John Brawley's first ProRes Files of the Black Magic Pocket Camera.
We have decided to use Final Cut X for grading because we want to know how to get some useful pictures in a short time without using a color grading software like DaVinci.
Lenses used: SLR Magic 35mm F1,4
Olympus 14-35mm F2,0
Olympus 7-14mm

earnesync reacted to prince in Preorder Production Camera 4k for $3,879
Hi,
I don't know if someone had already posted this:
The Other World Computing is offering preorder at discounted price. And they also put a ship date on it.
As of today, it says 23 days to ship.

Can anyone have comment on it? date, discount? are they reliable to pre order?

earnesync reacted to AroudTheWorldits in Is Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera good for documentaries around the world?
Hi, I need a very good image quality for my videos and I need a small handycam or camera.
I'm thinking about Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. I am a solitary traveller and I make documentaries about indigenous peoples in remote areas. Now I'm using a Sony NX5 but I'm noticing it is too much big and heavy and I'd like to replace it. I'd like to get a smaller camera. But my worries are: is Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera lighter with its zoom lens than NX5? Is it handy like a camera? Above all will it give better image quality than Sony NX5? How much more? Thanks
PS: In your opinion can it replace a good camcorder?

This edit isn't to focus on flaws, raw ability, image quality/detail, highlights or shadows. Just a simple Glidecam test along with a few CobraCrane shots. It's no MoVI but i'll settle for it being that it's about $14k cheaper.

Retails around 14 grand, usually on ebay above 8.
This would be a dream lens on the Pocket Cam, it's been already discussed on the forum once:

Lucky basterd. I had no money to spend this month, so I was just watching the auction as some sort of a porn.

earnesync reacted to slvs in Kinor 16 for the BMPCC?
Does anyone know how much frame coverage LOMO's 16mm lenses get? Will the Kinor 16 lenses cover the BMPCC's S16 sensor?
I ask because Kinor 16 lenses are dirt cheap on ebay, right now I can only find this one but I seem to recall there being a few more options (a 10mm and an 8mm and some longer options maybe?)

earnesync reacted to nathanleebush in future proof Manual Focus lenses for BMPCC & M43 BMCC
I've been stewing about what lenses to invest in with my upcoming BMPCC order and thought maybe you guys could weigh in with your collective wisdom. I was leaning toward Nikkor AI-S glass because it was the pinnacle of manual lens tech in the manual lens photo heyday, has long focus throws, is relatively portable, and is flexible if I want to jump up to larger sensors in the future (does anyone think this 16mm sensor will stay around indefinitely?). Also, I could then hack an APS-C and a FF Canon for RAW and have three focal lengths for each lens, effectively. Or I could get the Metabones Speedbooster essentially making it a Super 35mm equivalent, more or less. Then I read one perspective that since using FF glass on the Micro Four Thirds BMCC and BMPCC sensor is cutting into the center of the glass means it will magnify all the imperfections of the lens. A friend I trust on technical matters agreed with this, saying Nikon glass would look bad no matter how good the original optics and the Speedbooster just adds more glass distorting the image. He seems to think the better approach is to get super 16 C-Mount glass designed for the sensor size, and then sell it if I change to a larger sensor camera .. kind of a "get what you need now for optimal results, and don't think about five years from now" mindset. I'm now leaning this way, thinking that the super wide focal lengths I'll need for the BMPCC and BMCC will be useless to me anyway if I decide to go with a larger sensor in future (I'm not into superwide lenses). Anyway, any thoughts would be much appreciated! TL;DR: I want future proof and flexible glass that will still shine on the BMPCC. Is this possible or should I go with optimized C-mount or M43 glass?
