They are saying about an hour of battery life which translates to 45-50min of real world  use. Not great. Will have to walk around with a power bank or utility belt full of LP-E6s.

wondering if we can actually use powerbanks for battery via that USB-C

Well the problem I see with it is the more often you post the more money you make. So it leads to trying to get a Vlog out Every day. who can come up with interesting info that others could give a crap about everyday? Casey seemed to be the only one that sort of was doing that with much success in content. But his was like 12 minutes on average I think.

The ones that only come out say once a week you Can accumulate a decent amount of Useful information to go  on for 30 minutes. I follow a lot of Sailboat Vloggers and in a week sailing around they do have a story worth hearing that lasts up to 30 minutes or more..

Casey is ok, but i do not watch him 99% of the time

there are a few filmmakers/photographers are doing great jobs in youtube sharing free tips and tutorials in under 2-3 minutes

i'm very interested in those clips because there are so many youtubers day by day i wouldn't watch a daily vlog for 10+ mins anymore

Well with folded optics they can even have real zoom lenses in cellphones in the near future. I think in 3 to 4 years it will be here. I would imagine the phones Might have to be a bit thicker??

And with Google reportedly to acquire Lytro that ought to push the envelope. Other than top end gear, camera company's are going to be in deep doo doo in the near future. Smartphones are Really going to take over photo, video to 95% of the people that shoot. I don't really see how they can stay in business long term.

it's true that smartphones getting bigger recently, almost 10-20% thicker than the past for better battery and lenses placements

most of the cameras companies already moved away their businesses from just selling cameras and lenses now. only one or two like Nikon will be in bigger trouble

I've had single pixels that needed to be remapped on the a6300, a7r2 and a7s2, but I've never experienced anything like what the a73 is showing - nor have I seen any reports from previous cameras that come close to that mess. Brutal. Hopefully it gets addressed soon.

    Chris

I have not had a6300, A7s2. Did Sony actually came up with a solution or remapping once's the fix?

@eoslover haven't tried it yet.. but even if it works, might it not fail again at any given time.. ? i'd like an official fix (if there is one) or recall addressing the issue.

it seems like it is not limited to A7III only

A6300, A7SII had similar issues too and users fix it by remapping

Fuji has numerous issues to you. It has never had any serious issue such as dead pixels or anything for me.

You can call that a bias if you want, so what? I currently don't even own a Fuji, yet have a Sony A7iii.

Django, Do you mean the remapping sensor doesn't work?

Oversharpened, lower true resolution relative to bigger cameras at 4K, limited color, and jittery. Typical cell phone video, though the dynamic range was better than expected (except the fireworks part, which is overexposed and filled with blow outs).

It is getting old seeing videos from one camera, whether its a cell phone or a Kinefinity. Shoot just a few of these scenes with the cheapest Panasonic 4K shooter (GX85?) and see a big difference. Big difference.

I see no reasons to have double standards. If this were a video from a Sony A6500, everyone would be all over it.

One of the biggest downside is low light performances.

If they put BSI sensor and ND filter in, that may solve some of the issues.

The overheating problem is not that big of a deal in these smartphones so there will be 4k 120fps and 1080p 480fps in just a couple of years

Many other smartphone companies are also developing multiple focal lengths like 25mm, 50mm, 80mm packaging in one unit

Has there really been improvement since the S7, which also shot 4K? yes, 60p is a step up, but not all that matters. Here is a 4K S7 low light video, looks just as good (bad):

And here is an S8 4K video, inside and outside:

The stabilization is a huge upgrade, I used S8 regularly its just not as good overall

FYI Sony has included barcoding within the video of A7III.

At least three examples have it:

I wouldn't rush to buy this camera until these issues have been fixed with some updated firmware. Who knows maybe the shipped camera does not have this.

    looks really bad

no rush to get this one

I had the g7x and mark ii..in no way is the g7x superior in high iso than the rx100 v which now I own after comparing to the G7XII. The lens is also much better across the frame and auto focus is light years better than the canon. The reason I wanted to love the Canon was the 100mm range but the rx100 v was so much better overall that I ended up buying it.

  11. TOKYO — Canon will shift more of its focus to mirrorless cameras, a change in strategy spurred by sharp growth in the market.

The company boasts a commanding share of the global single-lens reflex market but was reluctant to enter the mirrorless field over concerns about cannibalizing SLR sales.

Canon said Monday that it will release an entry-level mirrorless camera next month. The product is positioned as “a strategic model” for mirrorless cameras, according to Masahiro Sakata […]

Canon hopes that the new product will attract demand from families, including mothers who enjoy taking pictures of their children.

    […]

With mirrorless cameras rapidly gaining popularity and rivals like Sony breaking into SLRs, Canon decided it must “actively roll out products for a growth market even if there is some cannibalization,” Sakata said.

    […]

The company is making efforts “to be able to respond to customer needs in any region by offering both SLR and mirrorless cameras,” said Go Tokura, a Canon executive officer.

look at the canon youtube channel

females vloggers, body white in color... these are all signs towards amateur video content creators

and Canon is still the only one with vari angle touchscreen + reliable dpaf

is it a fantastic 4k camera? absolutely not

is it better than the previous generations? definitely

Not just there, everyone is hyping it up. The coverage is misleading as the specs on the box are. Class action lawsuit level misleading for the average customer.

The whole thing is an utter disgrace.

You honestly have to ask about the love affair the online press have with Canon.

NewsShooter today did their A7 III piece in a cynical tone moaning about the Japanese presentation and lack of 10bit, when it's basically an A9 for half price with SLOG and HDR!!? 6K full pixel readout?! $1899 for full frame 4K?! Are you kidding me - what's not to like about that?! Yet the M50... Glorious write up and as usual the glaring flaws simply glossed over.

    well, not everyone.

PM review was very honest and didn't really try to sell M50, he liked the screen, disliked the 4k, disliked the slow mo

in fact if you view the comment session, since PM mentioned there was no DPAF during 4k and showed the hunting autofocus, most people who owns M5/M6 probably wait til a real upgrade. But for those who wants to start vlogging without any camera, they will buy it because the 1080p DPAF is reliable and amazing enough for general purpose
