Ultimately I'm looking for a lightweight-wide angle lens+camera combo to fly on a pistol grip-style 3 axis gimbal (probably nebula 4000 lite) for smooth, stable shots.

At present I own a Panasonic G7, and the 12-35mm f2.8 panasonic lens.

In Italy they say don't bandage your head if you didn't break it!!!

Buy your gimbal, test it with your system, if it works great. If not, change something. IS normally helps with microjitter, but you have to test. Sometimes it can disturb the image. You can't know before you try it...

Vimeo and YT should delete videos after 2 years if not viewed more than 1000 times (on free account), freeing up space to store higher quality uploads and widening their bandwidth streaming pipe. After 2 years, videos can only be accessed via dedicated server access in libraries...so only visiting a library will ensure you can view that 3 year old cat video that never went viral. Might make people visit libraries again?

Nice to read different ideas every once in a while! But I must confess most of my treasure findings in YouTube are not viral and probably don't have 1000 views, so I would have find less treasures... The idea of providing everything on libraries is great though!

the rolling shutter in the background is horrendous

Fortunately that's the kind of thing nobody (except us!) really notices or care about...

Facebook groups have sucked the life out of the Vimeo groups and YouTube is sucking away the traffic.

Exactly! Vimeo was more about getting the videos they are offering, YouTube you must search more. It's incredible that Levi's jeans or Converse shoes have been the same for decades and on-line services change every two years!!!

On the subject of the A7sii; seems like there are some really experienced people with its use. I wanted to ask; what Picture Profiles would you use if you had a SUPER short turnaround for a project-- talking like the edit is due the day of the shoot (interviewing). Secondly, for those on Macs, do you all convert the XAVC footage to Pro Res for editing use in Premiere? I was editing some of the footage that I shot yesterday, and it took significantly longer to render even despite the fact that I shot in 1080 compared to my GH 3 footage.

I don't have one. I would avoid LOG and use something you can directly use. If you are really on a hurry, rent a recorder, so you use ProRes which Macs are optimized for.

I have no doubt that with the millions of possible permutations if you dig into the Sony picture profile settings you can come up with any look you want, but the reality is that nobody has the time or knowledge to really understand how to do that.

Not only, they sell you this shit as it was a way to have more possibilities! Just give us one preset that makes the image as what it was the real thing. If you want to go away from that there are infinite possibilities in post to go away. The path to go back from twisted to reality is way harder!!!

So maybe selecting the autofocus point is not a big issue, and the ability to do so on the a6300 (compared to the a6000) is even praised by some.

Selecting AF point by touching the LCD would have been 1000x better in any case!

...it's the system in general.  It's just not good anywhere.

In Italy or in Spain, when there is a corruption case, they always say it's a bad apple. But it's not a bad apple, the system doesn't work if you can steal money while being a politician or a high white-collar. It's the same system that makes most business to have adequate. If you competitor pay low-wages, don't pay software and pays with a 6 month delay, it's very difficult you can compete paying good wages, in time, etc. So with the idea of making money, the moral/economic/politic standards are plumbeting...
