Just an FYI, the latest Hero 4 update gives you the linear mode off the new Hero 5 on your 2 year old GoPro as well.
Available at 2.7k and 1080p resolutions.

There are millions behind the sales air race, that's the reason why. Pity that both sides don't choose to release a better and higher bitrate codec...

    hahaha I agree! Good catch!
Really sucks! He says. So gopro does not?? He says he speaks as filmmaker.... Really? As filmmaker or news shooter??
Funny, people have no idea what it means to be filmmaker. Not even what filmic means. Strange days.

I just hope that DJI will upgrade their cameras/sensor in Mavic/Phantom.
There is no way to upgrade camera on Mavic so (according my opinion) its camera should be better than 2 years old GoPro 4 sensor with just 60Mbps.
I do not understand why DJI can still use quite old technology if sensors in smartphones are still better and better every year (and they can handle higher bitrate than 60Mbps). I just wish that there will be Phantom or bigger Mavic one day with similar technology which can be seen in Sony FDR X3000: 4K with 100Mbps + just 8Mpx sensor with "big" pixels + OIS (we can see little shakiness sometimes on Mavic's footage, so why there cannot be OIS if it is in smartphones (?)).
These specs together with 1,5x or 2x zoom lens.... that would be my dream drone. Mavic is really great but I will rather wait ;-)

Well...it kind of was to be expected that the Karma wouldn't be as stable in the air or have all the flying features DJI has developed over the years.
But the point where GoPro totally dropped the ball imo is by not having improved the codec and overall IQ over the 2 year old GoPro 4...

That was the one thing they had going for themselves and they chose to leave it completely untouched..shame.

I don't find Phantom 4 any better than Mavic. I find Mavic better than the phantom 4, gopro, etc with their oversharpened settings.
    I agree with Pavel.

in my opinion, Phantom 5 or 4 pro will move onto such camera tech, which then leaves room for mavic 2 to take the place (in terms of image quality) of current Phantom 4. i think DJI wants certain image quality differentiation between mavic and phantom.
im hoping DJI is moving towards modular design for all their lines, for example. you can choose different body (payload) to fit your budget/weight requirement then based on that, you can choose certain camera head. e.g. let say there is a X1 camera, then mavic cna take x1 and x3, then phantom can x1, x3 and the lighter x5. then inpsire 1 can take x1, x3, x5 and x5r etc.

From new buyers with their fresh videos (the first ones, as for instance, plainly shows where the footage can shine and where not mainly because of a limited codec with such low bitrate : )

I find it even funny when people complain about sharpness. With this last one, for example, I am using a laptop display 1366 pixels wide. I need to go from 1080p file to 720p file if I want avoid aliasing.
To those who haven't seen yet the Cinema5D review, still from Lisbon DJI event:

And the next ones to those who have wondered about its narrative use.

Im currently testing some new settings, heres a few examples, these are all separate projects, so they all have a slightly dif. look.

These are all videoframes, and not pictures, as soon as im done testing these settings, ill share with you guys!
Im considering creating a specific lutpackage that could be sold at a very affordable price, what do you guys think?

Not good news :P  First I tried with Canon 40mm pancake, the lens wasn't responding at all, I suspect that the protocol has expanded a bit.  Spent that weekend trying to get any kind of response to no avail.  Good-ish news, during the week I tried the 28-135 and there is definitely movement in the lens, but I've had no time to explore further.  It seems like I might need to get a logic analyzer to have a shot at it working with newer Canon lenses.  If anyone wants to leapfrog me, there is someone that claims to have made such a working adapter for basic manual control using buttons on the adapter for focus and aperture, and was actually using it on NX.

Need to adapt that code to Arduino Nano when I get a chance, very similar microcontroller used in his project.
    http://blueringlab.com/2016/03/canon-ef-lens-aperture-control-test/
It's too bad he didn't post that code, the answer to his unresolved precise aperture setting is in Peter's post.
    http://howiem.com/wordpress/index.php/2016/07/07/motion-control-canon-ef-lens-hacking/
Is an informative post, he also has code available, but it is a bit different, being driven from a connected computer rather than a microcontroller, etc.. but still possibly useful.
In my searching about, it seems that almost everything the public knows about the EF protocol originates from this German thread:
    http://www.dslr-forum.de/showthread.php?t=649529&page=61
Which is unfortunately a jumbled mess and all the useful compilations of the info some members made seem to be defunct.  Still, it's worth combing through.
The next step for me I think is to re-verify the physical integrity of my connections, then start working with the 28-135 instead of that obnoxious 40mm.  Not sure 100% about the logic analyzer yet... but since I'm thinking it will be needed eventually I'm starting to feel like I should order one soon.
The NX side is easier and harder.  I think I have quite a bit more concrete information on the protocol, thanks in part to rockymountain's blueringlab site, but this side likely involves fooling the camera about certain aspects of the lens and spoofing lens responses.
Luca: If I want more than one focal reducer should I donate that number of times?  <- in bold because the site is merging my posts and I thought this should be separate.

I dont think it looks bad, I think it looks way more filmic than the P4 with its oversharpened settings. This is the first drone im really excited about, but will wait for some more stuff on it.

This is very true...All i see is the same Sony sensor (with some minor differences) in a great variety of products like Phantom 4, GoPro, Mavic and even smartphones..but nobody has unlocked it's full potential. Dji has shitty compression (and dlog is a total joke), gopro has that ugly ultra-wide lens and smartphones are just smartphones...Sony's latest action cam gives us 100 mbps but there is not a f***ing drone made for it.
Anyway, it seems that karma has a better construction quality (mavic looks like transformers toy with cheap plastics) and better IQ, from what we have seen so far. But in linear mode you are stuck to 2.7K. I am hoping for a direct comparison between these too, a proper one because all these A versus B videos are usually made by amateurs and focus on silly things.

It also seems that the Mavic camera has some sort of autofocus based on the spec:
    P4: FOV 94° 20 mm (35 mm format equivalent) f/2.8, focus at ∞
    Mavic: FOV 78.8° 28 mm (35 mm format equivalent) f/2.2 Distortion < 1.5% Focus from 0.5 m to ∞

This can also cause some difference when comparing the two.
Before a real judgment I would wait from a more in depth review by somebody that knows how to compare cameras and understand all the variable in this process

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yes sure DJI killed GoPro. When you think GoPro 5 IQ > Phantom 4 and Phantom 4 vs Mavic looks like this (see image). Now I am curious about anyone interested in aerial video/photo buying this shit Maveric VS a Phantom or a Karma. That's an absolute fail.
