It depends... I have couple of NX lenses and they may become useless after I stop using NX1 (which hopefully not happen in next few years). There is question also about product warranty - will Nikon provide service for Samsung NX? We will have wait on CES probably...
It would be great if Nikon would keep NX mount and keep all Samsung current lenses in the production....

Just finished editting a small video for some friends (& client) to check out the look we're looking for. Grade isnt final (its already dif. from the previous images). This is a music video we're shooting soon (these were only random test shots).

There seems to be a lot of ways to get a natural look out of the NX1. I like these settings too ... 16-50S .. Gamma DR, Contrast -5, Master Black Level +10. Sharpness was either at 0 or +5 ... can't remember but was too high either way. My wife's hair looks pretty bad as a result. Great fun experimenting anyway. 
Exactly same settings here but used FilmConvert over the top for a very non-natural look ... 16-50PZ ... Arri ... Alexa ... DCIP3 ... KD5207 (Andrews suggestion somewhere along the line)
I'd also like to start shooting more street stuff with the 16-50PZ ... while the 16-50S seems perfect in every way, the PZ seems to have a nice less clinical look and it makes the NX1 a totally different cam to use because it's so light and nimble with nice stabilisation especially when teamed up with DIS and the cams AF abilities. I like the PZ lens

Also guys keep in mind even if you leave the contrast a 0 in vivid you can still raise the black level to keep shadow detail.

And you think the camera is the problem?
There are two approaches you can use
If you don't plan to grade the image and just want great colour out of the box stick it on 0-255, normal picture profile, avoid raising the black levels or using gamma DR. Don't forget to remap 0-255 to 16-235 in post to get rid of the harsh clip to highlights and crushed black details.
Or you can raise the black levels and use gamma DR then grade it, do all sorts... To say quality decreases is not correct. You can apply a range of very artistic looks to the flatter output.

It's more about the codec actually.
H.265 effectively doubles your bitrate due to 2x greater efficiancy.
70 = 140Mbit/s
The NX1's codec is able to hold onto more detail, where H.264 on the a7R II goes a bit muddy due to compression.
The RX10 II's codec is muddier still, probably due to a cheaper processor.
So in short... definitely more 'real' detail on the NX1 compared to the A7R II and A7S II.

I have always stated that NX cameras should be hacked, given the fact they are based on Linux and have partially open source fw. Of course the skills required are high.
NX1 has great potential. Just think if they could unlock 6.5k video at high bitrate, perhaps in 4:2:2 or even raw.
Remember that with the lexar 2000x sd card the nx1 can save 5-6 raw+jpg/sec, that's about (or even more than) 200MB/sec (1.6Gbit/sec). So the internal i/o is there to be filled by video!

Ability to lose magnify focus in stand by / video mode would be great too... :/ (also ability to change the zone of the magnify would be great !)

Don't belittle Lukas' crucial foundation work.  He did most of the heavy lifting for those that followed, and he did it only May of last year.  Obviously, the NX hacks moved farther because of his work.
The Lukas rooting of NX cameras led to this work (and this work), which led to the simple work of your boy on DP Review disabling the video time/file-size limit.  Your boy acknowledges the immediate upstream source, and that source acknowledges Lukas.  From the comments on Lukas' page, there are evidently others who are also hacking the NX cameras, thanks to him.

Once you at at root level, potentially the sky is the limit in terms of the features they (he!) could add. It's a bit like writing software for a jailbroken iPhone... Once you are in and behind all the locked doors they put in place, you can write almost any software imaginable.

While it is very unlikely that we are in for another ML like experience, it is linux based and you only have to see how people are modding Android to see that potential, if they get to root level.

hehe, taking away the time limit for the nx1 should be as easy as he did with nx300. Implementing the cropped 4k video from nx500 (as a selectable alternative to full sensor readout) should/could also be done, when comparing the two fw and looking at the differences. Perhaps even higher bitrates could be implemented.
Adding features that are not present at all (e.g. focus bracketing...) is highly unlikely imo.

Would be quite funny if the NX1 is discontinued, then a hack makes it the dream camera... They will be like gold dust.

Almost only skies ^^. Youtube compression doesn't help, as well as the LUTs I applied. But there is still some banding and a little macro blocking on the graded file (before youtube compression). Hope that helps...

Yeah, if pros pick up NX1, they will do wonders, as this video shows. Its quality is so good, it comes down more to skills, techniques, and support equipment. Glad NX1 is finally getting the attention it deserves and not being dismissed as prosumer stuff. I'm sure we'll see more examples, which can only help adoption.

Started with some colour curves to balance the NX1 shot more towards blue, getting rid of the green cast. Then I just shifted the cool end of the blue spectrum further toward blue with a hue shift, and the warmer end of the green spectrum I shifted towards red with the same method. There were a few other tweaks to the saturation of different hues, but that was pretty much it. Could probably get it closer if I had access to the original files, but it's not bad.
 
I guess it would be possible to make a '1D C' colour profile preset that could be applied to NX1 (or any other camera) if you wanted that particular look. Will post a sony vegas preset if there's demand.

We're talking better resolution for NX1, NOT sharpness. You can sharpen the 1Dc image all you want, but you aren't going to get the detail that just isn't there. See below a grab from your video to see what I mean. I've sharpened the 1Dc image to look similar, but you can see it doesn't have the same detail.

Probably a complete stupid question ...but do you get the same macroblocking artifacts without the polarizer?

Never noticed anything of that sort, but ill take a look and do some real life tests.
Im gonna do some more tests with settings and do a new topic on it, and how I do some of my grades, considering a few people have asked me how its done.
 

Surely I know that:) If you like standard colors, you should try Gamma C. Colors with it are truly amazing. I think DR is the most overrated thing, and with these low bitrates it's better to get closer to final result in camera instead of that flat look, which may break your footage.

Standard gamma uses photo picture profiles which may cause the problem? So I would test with Gamma D or Gamma C. Also it has been speculated that 4096 mode is just upscaled 3840 (becouse 4096 is softer than 3840) so maybe upscaling causes other issues as well.
I personally use 3840x2160, 25p, Gamma C, 0-255, sharpness -10, green x0.95, PRO bitrate, and I haven't had any issues.
Sidenote: converting to ProRes (at least with Rockymountains Movie Converter) adds banding, while converting to H.264 wont.

Never seen this happen, I dont think its codec related, you probably have a faulty unit.

Sandro, this 120 fps bug should be fixed in latest firmware. Also (with Samsung lenses) it stays in MF mode after recording video.
