I threw the .apk file for this app on my nexus 7 a day or two after that dude first posted about it on github and it worked pretty good! I paired it with my NX500 and had full video control, photo control, etc. For an alpha version, I thought the UI was really pretty slick too, I tried it with both manual and native glass, and I had an image coming onto my tablet from the camera just fine. It was quite laggy though, and definitely had some pretty bizarre colors, but I hope he keeps it up, it could be very useful if he gets it working just a little bit better.

The more tech-talented enthousiasts that jump on the NX hacking train the better it will be for all of us!

Too bad no Samsung employee will leak the tools they used for NX1, or they probably ended up in concrete somewhere in Tokyo bay

It was not a dead system until few months ago. He speaks as if there has been nothing like xt2 before. There has been for more than 1 year (before being, perhaps, a dead system).

Thank you, all of them were shot with the 18-35mm f1.8, they arent all from the same edit (the first shot is from another one), so they are slightly dif. in edit.

nx-patch v5.3 is out. One point of interest to videographers: killall switch added which basically returns camera to factory settings (until battery pull) EXCEPT for the already set bitrates. Pull battery to reactivate mod UI.

Would love to get in touch with them and check what they are doing with it, maybe give them some footage for beta testing!
Anyway, hase been testing some filmconvert grades :

Still not totally happy with it, but they do look quite filmic imo, and they seem less agressive than some luts I usually use.

Shot with vasile's 140 mbps. Still from 4k on 1080 timeline. Andrew's gamma DR settings but no LOG LUT. Just used visioncolor impulz rec.709 tetrachrome FC + Curves, saturation boost and vignette. Used 16-50S lens.

Sick footage everyone! I'm surely having fun with the NX1!!

It gets interesting at the 1:22 mark.  They show multiple times in the video people playing with zoom rings while using the gimbal.  I hope that's not by accident.  That is impossible to do on my Pilotfly H1+.  I hope someone gets to review it because it seems like the stabilization market is already pretty well established.  Below $600 on ebay, not a bad price but it's not gonna be a game changer either.  2 18650 Li-ion batteries like the Came-TV Single.  That handle looks obnoxiously long, but then again, maybe not a bad thing.  It's not like I carry the Pilotfly in my pocket.
I own a Zhiyun Z1 Smooth C, which is a sub $200 gimbal that works well for my Galaxy Note 4/5 and stabilizes smartphones just as well as my Pilotfly H1+ stabilizes my cameras.
Edit: Oh just a warning before you buy though.  I'm guessing it's not compatible with SimpleBCG which is powerful for fine tuning.  The Zhiyun software for the smartphone is very very basic.  Just does firmware upgrades and calibration.

Ricardo is always posting such gorgeous framegrabs in this thread, so I wanted to give his settings a try for myself on my latest project... I'm really liking the way these are looking. (Graded with DeLuts and filmconvert)

DP Review is own by Amazon and they surely have a certain policy with the manufacturers. Yes they have the "think positive" attitude but they are honest and it's easy to read between the lines or see the sample by yourself.
I can't say the same for a vast majority of blogs and other websites that puke advertorials all over the place to maintain their "preferred relation" by distributing constant 3 to 5 stars ratings.

What I expect from a review is to show me all the bad and the ugly, not to sugar coat the reality. And I deeply thank you Andrew for doing that with Canon and all the other, Sony included.
I myself do a little bit of review and testing in a different industry and it's very hard to resist the ambient corruption. It takes courage and that's not easy.  The comfortable position is to get invited, paid and promoted by all the "partners" and this is what most reviewers and "journalists" do because they have to pay the bills at the end of the month and being the white knight quickly close all the doors and turn you into a black sheep in terms of PR.

I ave tried it and it is great.
I was hoping that playback of original files will be better - it still uses only CPU on 100% (which is pretty annoying) even I have GTX960 with full HEVC support... I will report it as bug again.
However - proxy feature is big step forward (even Sony Vegas has this few years ago)

I have installed version 5.2 on my NX1. Thank you very much Vasile! There are now slots for Normal bitrates so no I can use different bitrate setup for timelapse (eg. 320 Mbps), 4k30p (180), 1080p60 (150), 120fps (100-110Mbps),...
Also activation of GUI via luminance button is great choice... I really do not see any downsides now!
I am wondering what will come next... silent shutter on NX1 would be great ( I know it is very complicated - I saw your post to Marco od dpreview).
However this already outperformed what I have ever expected from whole NX1/NX500 hacking project - custom bitrate settings for each resolution which runs without any waiting and so smooth... BIG THANKS.

You can use Kino Seed hack or Vasile's. Vasile is mainly focus on bitrates and biggest benefit is that it is loaded instantly without any waiting and camera behaves like without hack (but you can change bitrates in camera and they will survive even cold boots if you make them defaults - can be done in GUI).
    bitrate patch itself
    https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/tree/master/video-bitrate-mods/nx-patch
to make it work you have to install nx-on-wake which is only complicated and (to be honest) dangerous part of whole process.

I am now doing groundwork for mods that will be a lot more advanced. This is why you are likely to not see any visible progress for a while. In essence I am trying to zombify the di-camera-app to enable bi-directional communications between it and my mod infrastructure, and to introduce the possibility to "drive" it from the mod runtime..
If successful this should allow many things, potentially including native UI integration, true BBAF, native integration of focus stack & focus pull, etc. etc. My plan is to make it an extensible and open framework upon which others might build on (e.g. Otto) to deliver things that work in coordinated manner with the native app, and that are aware of what the native app does. This will allow, for example, to have the UI permanently up to date regardless of what the mod does (as opposed to today where mods do not update the UI because they are independent of di-camera-app).
NB. Nothing above is a promise or commitment and you do not see any timeline, do you?
PS. I still covet that lens ;-)

As on dpreview forum - I would like to thank you very much....  It works great - as without hack - very fast, no delays, BUT with high bitrates... simply wonderful :-)
Any chance you could use different button combination than OK+OK for UI? eg. thash+thash (or even EV+EV as on NX500 could be better). Because when I have performed some changes in menu I have accidentally evoked UI because of fast pressing OK+OK... Setting bitrate for "Normal quality" would be also nice..., but these are small details. I really do not want to bother you with them ;-)

I understand - BTW "OK" button also activates manual focus assist when using manual lens. It is not big deal becuase I/we should not use GUI very often anyway (just set bitrates and that is it).

These are all videoframes, I think they work great, on some cases better, others worse, but can they replace taking a snap? Of course they can, would this be possible without 4k? No it wouldnt.
