    Wit got a reaction from nahua in GH3 & Panasonic 12-35 mm f 2.8 | Miontas
This is a really wonderful forum which helps me as newcomer really much. Thank your for this!

Here is a video I shot with the turned down settings as suggested in this thread on the EOSHD.
Due to inexperience with all the possibilities of the GH3, I set everything on auto except the aperture. But hey that's how I learned the hard -but very fast -way about shutter speed and light frequencies. ;-)

Now I have to master how to install the lapel mic  and the sennheiser correctly. The lapel picked up more non speaker sounds then I hoped for.

    Footage : Panasonic Lumix GH3
    Lens      : Panasonic 12-35 mm f 2.8, B&W XS-Pro UV filter
    Settings : MOV All-I, 24 p - 50 Mbps, modus A, Contrast -5, Sharpness -5, Color -3 and Noise reduction -4.
Audio     : Sennheiser 400 MKE, Zoom H1 and Rode Lavalier Condenser Lapel Microphone omni-directional.
Editing   : Final Cut Pro X
Music    : Watercolour - Bill Newsinger

"Gladiator" look is a reference to the Ridley Scott film Gladiator.  The actions scenes have a staccato movement associated with really high shutter speeds over 1/1000 sec.  Since most films are shot 24P at 1/50 sec, you get a more pleasing motion blur.  But if you want to do slow motion, then you need to shoot at 1/100 or faster shutter speed.  It's all in the look that you want to achieve.  Slower shutter speed means more motion blur, faster shutter speed means less blur and more stuttering movement.  Again play around with different settings to get the look you want.

As for the A function, well it really is a stills camera first.  So the legacy functions of A, S, M, and P are all there.  You can also change the movie mode to shoot in S function.  Go to movie mode on the dial, enter the menus, go to the camcorder icon menu, exposure mode and set to S.  Now all you see is the shutter speed, the aperture value is gone.  If you have ISO and WB both on Auto, then those icons disappear as well.  So now all you do is set your shutter speed and everything else is on auto.  In dark scenes it will automatically go for the widest aperture, then set the ISO for you.

OK sorry go with shutter priority (S) mode and set it to 1/50 for EU/PAL lights.  Indoors the camera will automatically go to shallowest depth of field and change ISO to suit.  Shutter speed can be multiples of 1/50 - 1/100, 1/200 work too (for slow motion, but can look jittery like "Gladiator" movie if used at 24P).  Good luck!

Composing my ultimate GH3 to go set. Bought the camera, decided on my audio set and now I'm looking for a cheap but good viewfinder for the GH3 (and then the rig and follow focus will follow).

I saw a lot already on the web but has somebody experiences with a good and cheap vieuw finder for the GH3?

    Thanxs a lot!

I also do use the word film in some cases. Let's not talk words though and stay o the topic, Who cares if we call it video making or filming. Everybody does understand what we're talking about!   ;)

Wit got a reaction from GoatheSeajets in Searching the ultimate versatile microphone (Panasonic GH3)
Now I have my Panasonic GH3, I'm looking for the ultimate versatile microphone. (and found out I had to take a university degree in sound recording - getting though all the information available on the web  :P )

Good I nearly got through all the info about sound recording. So now I know there are different kinds of microphones with different pick up patterns for different situations and don't really know what to pick. Because as it happens I will be on the road and have to go as light weight as possible. So I need one mic for in- and outdoor, ambient and interview sounds. The Pana has a 3,5 mm plug. Also it would be handy if the battery would be AAA or AA.

    - Any suggestions?
    - Or any experience with the Senheiser MKE 400?
    - Is it very stupid to use a digital Recorder only, like such as the Tascam DL 100 or the zoom H4N  or even the zoom H1? I can lug those in directly and place them above the camera or lay them at my sound source and sinc later on. I'm still searching the exact pick patterns of these digital reorders but the zoom has adjustable mics of 90 degrees.

    Thanxs for helping starting up!

So I shot my first footage on my first interchangable camera - the Pana 3.
I'm happy with the first impression but also unhappy with some effects and have to find out what caused that. All my material was handheld for future shots I will also use a tripod.

    - On some of the shots  - asphalt or landscapes with lines I see a smur going on. Is this the aliasing and moire?
Is this due to handhold or due to the settings? My settings All-I 24p, no color grading, contrast 0, sharpness 0,
       saturation 0, noise reduction 0
    - What are the ideal settings for the GH3 and why?
    - And how do I bring back the contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction in post?
Do I add sharpness and contrast by editing exposure, lowering the middle and higher the highlights?
And saturation by turning up the saturation in general, the higlights, midtones or shadows?
What about the noise - do you wanna have that back?

Thanxs so much for helping this newcomer!
