Sony is just covering all bases with this new camera. It was not intended to be the latest and greatest. It will appeal to those that are looking for a more compact rangefinder form factor/aesthetic and combines a lot of very dependable tech from Sony’s current parts bin. If you need 10 bit video, look elsewhere. Sony and others have this covered. As it stands, the A7C will likely sell well offering ample stills resolution and video IQ with unlimited uncropped 4K recording (able to run for hours without overheating) as well as exceptional AF in video. Focus peaking is also exceptional (possibly one of the best implementations) and the A7C may prove to be an exceptional M mount body for a fraction of Leica’s ask.

The R5 managed 26 minutes in 4K HQ mode before shutting down. Now it’s recording in 4K line skipped mode. I just need to watch for that 29.59 record limit.

The A7S III is recording 50p 4K 10 bit. It’s been going for 90 minutes now, zero issues.”
”I can sum up what filming with the @sonyalpha A7S III on holiday is like very succinctly...

It’s just easy, you don’t have to fight the camera, everything works beautifully and the image is just gorgeous.

If this camera was capable of high resolution stills it would be the perfect camera. As it is this is a superb small beast of a video camera. There’s nothing else out there that comes close to all it does. I will be very sad to give it back at the end of my holiday. “

WOW ... no PDAF, yet again!
CDAF is barely adequate on a m4/3 size sensor that is aided by a deep depth of field.
On a full frame sensor, with a narrow depth of field, CDAF will be a disaster.

Sony always seems to elicit the "great IQ, hate the shooting experience" posts, and I'm no different. But after tinkering with an A9, Sony finally got it right IMO - the stuff that needs dials is there, the record button is fixed, body egos are better, AF is next level amazing, IBIS is much improved over the A7mk2's and so on. When it trickles down to the A7s3/A7r3/A73, it will be very tough to choose m43 or Fuji over Sony. If the A9 were priced at the A7rII intro price of about $3200, I would have two right now and be back in the Sony camp.

Exactly. But as it lacks an individual image texture (tack sharp, puristic look), so people speak about "over sharp". When Canon declares their 720p mushy pixel soup as 1080p, C-Fanboys speak affectionately about "warmish and smooth outlines"...Resolution is nothing but resolution. 4K should be real 4K. After watching some newest RED footage on an expensive monitor in London, I would say, NX1 footage seems "mushy" compared with the RED one...As always, it's a matter of perspective...Tack sharp footage can be smoothed in post...BUT mushy, baked in pixel soap can NOT be sharpened as much...

You've just outlined a very compelling reason to buy an A6500.  Based on your cherry picked list, you essentially need to buy 4 camera systems to get all the features offered by the A6500.  While the Sony may need be perfect, it sure beats investing in and lugging around 4 camera systems.

Nice video. I noted 2 things though:
    1. Crazy amounts of purple and green chromatic aberrations.
    2. Strange motion cadence... I could see the frames. Possibly due to shutter speed choice? Most notably seen on the first shot of the gondola coming our from a bridge.

I'm not sure I understand the relevance of some of your comparisons in this review.  In Australia, a 1DX mkII will set you back $8500 vs $1400 for an A6300!

You are wrong, both cameras are in the same position and angle. You can freeze the frame and compare it yourself in more parts of this video. The best part where you can see the real life difference in cameras behavior and jello effect is at time 0:26-0:29. If you don't see any difference, maybe you are in the wrong profession...

There's plenty of material on-line comparing high-res full frame to m4/3 for photography.  When it comes to low light performance, resolution, dynamic range and tonality, the A7Rii competes with medium format while m4/3 is closer in performance to 1".

As someone who preordered the X-T2 the minute preorders opened, and then cancelled that same preorder in order to buy a used A6300, I have to say I think you're way too hard on the A6300. Yes, the ergonomics are weak compared to the beauty that Fuji is, but it's still a pretty amazing camera, one of the best Sony has made, including its FE line. The X-T2's omission of 120fps and the A6300's inclusion of it was a big factor in my change of plans, as was the fact that it was half the price. From my tests I get 30minutes of 4k before overheating happens, and I've never in my life records for that long in one sitting; I know tons of people do, but I don't and probably never will. And from what I've read from reviews, rolling shutter is the same between both cameras.
Not trying to knock the X-T2 in any way, I wish I could have both, but to say the A6300 is anything less than great is hard to swallow.

I couldn't decide and bought both the GX85 and A6300.  I ended up keeping the A6300.  The key issue wiht the A6300, overheating, has essentially been resolved.  Rolling shutter is slightly worse with the A6300 but still very evident with the GX85.  The GX85 records shockingly poor audio, the worst I've ever come across, due in part to the constant background noise generated by the IBIS.  AF tracking with the GX85's contrast detect system is also useless.  The A6300's hybrid phase/contrast detect AF, on the other hand, is sensational and only falters in difficult conditions (e.g. strong backlighting).  I like to shoot with shutter priority (1/50s) letting the camera adjust exposure on the run.  In this mode, the GX85 changes the aperture in discrete (annoying) steps.  The A6300 makes stepless aperture adjustments resulting in seamless transitions when shooting in varying lighting conditions.  The IBIS is great with the GX85 but this, on it's own, did not compensate for these major shortcomings.
