We recommend the SLR Magic HyperPrime 25mm T0.95 III for micro four thirds and the SLR Magic 50mm F1.1 for E-mount S35 because it is not compatible with all lenses and it is not possible for us to try all lenses from other manufacturers to test for compatibility. The lens is better paired with lenses with smaller front elements with a short distance between front element and rear element of the Anamorphot 1,33x-40. At NAB we tried the Anamorphic 1,33x-40 on the Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 and the image is great as it fulfills the compatibility conditions.

Both the 1.33x and 2x Anamorphot does not work well with zoom lenses. I also need to mention when using a "booster" type adapter the aperture used should be 1 stop below the recommended aperture settings due to the "boosted" aperture. When using "booster" type adapters longer focal length lenses need to be used compared to our recommended focal lengths due to the "boosted" wider angle. Some of our customers mentioned our suggested focal length and aperture values have issues when using a "booster" and it is true. Our recommended focal length and aperture values has the assumption a "booster" type adapter is NOT used.

The 12-35mm F2.8 will most likely not work with the adapter. The 42.5mm F1.2 has a huge front element and is unlikely to work too. We have tested with Panasonic that the Lumix 35-100mm F2.8 when used at F4 or smaller works with the 2x Anamorphot with Rangefinder adapter for the entire focal range of the zoom lens.

For PL we will offer 1.33x Anamorphot prime lens set for s35 system. We will offer 2x Anamorphot prime lens set for micro four thirds system.

You may get vignetting when using 82mm Achromatic Diopters due to the edge thickness. For regular 82mm filters you need to trial and error.

What you may do is set the Rangefinder to a closer focusing distance then find the sweet spot of your dual focus setup. It helps to bring down the MDF below the rated 3'6 at the expense of dual focusing again but at least you get your eye shot!

Timotheus, we also have a +1.8 Achromatic Diopter in 77mm for our Anamorphot lenses. Thx!

I do not have a Red Epic to test but our 50mm and 70mm 2x Anamorphic lens should cover 6k. Our 35mm, 50mm, and 70mm 1.33x Anamorphic lens should cover 6k too.

As for the Kowa, it has got to do with the design of your taking lens. You should not use a fast lens and should not use zoom lens to avoid vignetting.

I do not fully understand the setup. The LA7200 has no filter thread to use the 72mm Rangefinder? Could you please explain further and send some photos of setup to support@slrmagic.com? thx

Kind of off topic but as the Rangefinder is discussed here I should mention the SLR Magic Rangefinder with Imperial markings is in 77mm thread (http://www.adorama.com/SLRRCA.html) and works directly on our 1.33x and 2x Anamorphot adapters with 77mm front thread. Please note our Rangefinder in 72mm with Near/Normal markings (http://www.ebay.com/itm/SLR-Magic-Rangefinder-adapter-72mm-for-Anamorphic-clamps-/262129589075?hash=item3d08241b53:g:xnwAAOSw7hRWO72Y) does NOT work with our 1.33x and 2x Anamorphot adapters. If you use step-down ring there may be vignetting. The 72mm version would work for 72mm thread Anamorphic Clamps.

kidzrevil, We just started our volunteer testing program with the 35/50/70 2x mFT lenses. Volunteer testers do not get their copy of lenses for free. They are DP's who volunteered to purchase the set of lenses for professional work in exchange for being able to use the set of lenses before it is available to the market. The lenses are final but currently undergoing our final testing phase.

The 2x mFT will be available to the market first. The 1.33x lenses will not be ready so soon.

The Rangefinder does change the characteristic of the original taking lens combination slightly. Flares become slightly blue and you get the two extra spots of blue flare with strong lighting.

One is made for 77mm or smaller thread and the other is made for 72mm or smaller thread. Same coating and optics. One has witness markings for focus puller and the other does not. The 72mm version was made for those who want to pull focus but do not need to see focus markings when doing so. For those with a Vid-Atlantic or Redstan 72mm front filter clamp the 72mm version would work directly on it.

The Rangefinder without Imperial markings is 72mm thread only and not compatible with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x-50 with 77mm thread and will not be offered to avoid confusion.

The Rangefinder with Near/Normal ring is a genuine SLR Magic Rangefinder. We have launched the product for sale in Hong Kong only at the moment.

It has 72mm rear filter thread and does not work with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x-50 and 2,0x-50 that well with a step-down ring.

Owners of the Anamorphot should look for the 77mm version of the Rangefinder with (Imperial) witness markings.

Anamorphic lenses do not work too well with macro or zoom lenses due to position of the entrance pupil. Pancake lenses and regular prime lenses work better with Anamorphic lenses.

If you do a quick search on "SLR Magic Anamorphot" at vimeo.com or youtube.com there should be many samples posted by our volunteers or customers. If you are unable to achieve similar results the lens is probably defective. Sometimes a lens may have been mishandled during shipping causing a lens to be out of alignment and it is best to exchange it with the store you bought it from. If it is past the return period you may ship the lens to us for a check-up.

A friendly reminder.

When screwing in anamorphic adapters one should not screw in too hard. When you try to remove it, it may damage the taking lens. When screwing in filters too hard, it usually gets stuck in the lens but will not damage taking lens because it is very slim and hard to get a good grip.

The retaining screws are very tight. If it is loose it must be the connection between the step-up ring to the lens or the step-up ring to the anamorphot.

The first one elubes had was a tight alignment ring that is now resolved. It had nothing to do with Near ring.

Some Anamorphots have a looser or tighter Near Ring. Volunteers had mixed preferences. Some prefered loose. Those who always accidently spun the Near ring prefered a tighter ring. Small tight spot is normal. If it is totally stuck then it is not normal. A very simple focus mechanism is used to maintain lightweight.

The three retainer screws is not used to hold the position. You need to screw in the anamorphot to the lens tighter.

Please note not all 35mm lens combo works on FF.

With the SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 MK 1 you need to pair with lens support. However, a typical lens support kit will cost you more than the SLR Magic 35mm T1.4 MK1 and MK2 (CINE II) combined. Not sure why they cost so much. Maybe due to Econ 101 supply and demand!

Some have tried the Sigma 18-35mm at f/2.8 and it works like a charm on BMPCC. Does not work with the speed booster though due to angle of view.
