the a6300 4k exported as 1080 to me looks nicer than the a7s but then I really didn't like the colour science of the a7s and sold it pretty quickly. The colour is much improved I think with the a6300 and it is great in low light up until about iso 6400 - then the a7s pulls ahead.

As far as I understand, the Neway CT500HO is an OEM Ikan DH5e and you can have it for almost your budget in PV Deals.
I am actually looking at that option or saving some more money and go for the SmallHD Focus, since it has a couple of attractive features for me like the anamorphic desqueeze or LUTs.

Flaaandeeers reacted to Don Kotlos in Has anyone here used a Rode VideoMicro?
I have been using the videomicro since it came out.
Its a great directional mic for its compact size that performs better than the internal mic.
For example here is my run & gun setup that fits in a bag without having to take the mic off.

It really depends how much you value portability vs quality. If you were comparing it to the rodeo mic pro I would say maybe give it a try, but if NTG4 is your baseline you might be disappointed. It doesn't really approach the quality of NTG4 at the same subject distance but at least the closer you get the smaller the differences are since a major part of the noise comes from the internal amps.
I would say for its price is worth it, but don't expect miracles.

No, after the FS5 I am done with the bigger cameras, they are too fussy and a bit overkill.

I've said something similar in another post: I've switched to Nikon after being a Lumix (GH2/4) user for 5 years (and having tested as well Canon, Olympus and Blackmagic cameras along the road). I've had the D750 for less than a year and I couldn't be happier with the image I can get with it, specially thanks to the delightful colors, wide dynamic range, reduced RS and unique DOF.
Of course I miss some resolution, focus peaking (easily fixable with an external monitor), anamorphic modes, HFR and some other cool features but in the end, for the types of projects that I do (mostly low budget short films & web series), nice and clean 1080p, beautiful colors without to much hassle and that subject separation that FF easily provides is what ends up being most appreciated.
With so many camera announcements it's easy to be tempted to switch systems every 6 months, but even when I consider the Fuji XT2, Oly EM1 II and Sony A6500 very desirable pieces of tech, I think that I'll stick to my D750 at least until Nikon releases its successor and/or 4k delivery becomes standard.
And amen to that. I've been suffering from this disease for years and it's been my most unproductive season ever. Too much time spent on looking how gorgeous my footage could be if I had this new cool camera instead of learning how to get the most out of the one I currently have.

I'd rent one, the other or both to see if you like them and if you do, just buy them. Don't waste your life wishing for a better camera if like the one you have.

I dunno what exactly you guys seem to complain about. The Nikon D750 introduced in 2014 is a FF camera with zebras, 60FPS, tilting screen and a Flat profile. May not be as good as Sony, but is a hell lot better then what Canon is offering, and Nikon doesn't even have a dedicated pro video department..

Yup!!! The only thing their video is missing is focus peaking, but luckily I have eyes. I think they want some kind of Nikon Log... But their Flat Profile is basically Log Lite with more than enough latitude for creativity and dynamic range.
And many could argue the image is a lot more organic than anything Sony is offering at a comparable price range.
Or if you like Sony's image better... Cool... Shoot with a Sony. Wtf do I care...

Flaaandeeers got a reaction from August McCue in Nikon Flat Profile Question...
It's really that bad. But it's also really cheap and i use it a lot for stills with the D750 since the glass is pretty sharp and the AF amazingly fast for the price.
For video I only use AI/S glass, because the focus feel is essential for my taste.
Nonetheless I'd like to get a VR zoom lens as an all rounder for more casual stuff but I can't afford any of them right now...
And I've been there myself regarding Nikon's image. I've had Canon, Panasonic, Olympus and Blackmagic cameras and there is something about the dynamic range, color and cleanness in that small but robust file that makes me love my D750. With all the recent camera releases and announcements I've been considering switching to the A6500, the EM1 II or even the XT-2... but when I make an overall analysis of the trade-offs and my personal priorities, I cannot find a good reason to let the D750 go.

I think it's pretty cool that they still promote/update ONE camera. Instead of new models every year. At first it seems like a terrible idea, but now it almost makes the camera more appealing.

I have the GH4, and I was thinking of the A6300. Not so sure anymore, might even pick up a G7! Hey, that would be a major improvement for you coming from a T2i. Plus, you save some cash and can buy yourself a Metabones Speedbooster plus glass to go with it!

I'd get the D750 if I were you, by summer's end, the a6300 will be selling for around $600. If the reviews are good you may be able to have both.
