Nice work Brad...how is your experience with the A7s?

Filmmakers may want to chime in here.
A lot of talk on-line about Sony A7s vs the Canon 'C' series of cameras.
Especially the C100 and C100 ll.
Not sure what most people prefer here, (we can go back and forth about resolution, dr, xlr, nd, etc...) However; if there is one thing that separates these cameras is the stealth factor. There is no doubt the C100 is a small camera....however..
This video below (I'm sure there's even better examples) was just shot in Paris, and if the shooter would have had a C100 or something similar, there's no way he would not have had a reaction - Some bad I believe. (especially the bit with the guy in a intimate moment with his girl)
No doubt every single person looked at him, and saw that tiny camera - and felt safe - and had absolutely no clue in hell he was actually shooting video.
Something to think about if you need/want this kind of footage, or...you're actually shooting a film and need to steal shots.
Phillip Bloom was blasted by several people when he posted his original video with this cam - as it seems almost a tool for private investigators/ police. 
I do agree with Bloom's comments defending himself.  Some people questioned his morality. I do not.
If you're a filmmaker you'll probably do anything to get the shot. What you can get away with the Sony A7s  seems almost criminal. (in a good way if you're a filmmaker).

For some reason Andrew is not getting through to you people. so (again) I will translate whats happening.
The guy who owns this website just spent some serious time with the 1 DC, and as with all smart people, attitudes and opinions change..as a person gets more experience, gets older, wiser, more educated, etc..etc..Tests come and go..new tests, re-tests..and the dude does it his way because its his site. I know, it took an 8 year college education to decipher that information.
As new tech reaches the owner of this site (or old tech) and he gains experience with said 'gear'...his opinion and statements (wether you like it or not) are apt to change.
Again, this happens with intelligent people. 
I have nothing to gain by defending Andrew, (he can be confrontational himself at times..like with me)...however its tiresome to come on this website and have to scroll through the dribble of confrontational people like you...People keep continually challenging this dude on his own fucking site.

It's because for whatever tech reason, the GH4 doesn't process colors the way 5 years of 5D2 have spoiled us. 10 bit isn't going to help that out of the GH4. The G series are very sharp, but have the video/bad skin tones out of the gate. You can post it, but it still doesn't look great (to my eyes and many others). Main reason (besides sensor size) you read ad nauseum about people returning their GH4's to B&H in droves.
 
Go and search examples for yourself.
 
The new Nikon D750/D810 process colors beautifully..really gorgeous video with a nice cinematic look..much like a Canon EOS camera. The GH4 fails in this department miserably.
 
$25K and lower Canon and Nikon rule colors. Have tons of cash? Buy an Alexa/Amira and be done with it.

Just a head's up the new Nikon D750 is superior to the D810 for video. I saw proof of this in person. Sorry I cannot show you the footage. It wasn't mine and was used on an adult vid. Both cams were on the set.

(D810 still better for stills - super large).

On the video side, the D750 has zero moire/aliasing to speak of (you will find it on D810) and it has a flip lcd screen. It's just as sharp as the D810 (GH3 quality in 1080p but MUCH MUCH better colors!) and is 24 meg Full Frame. The lcd is sharp as hell.

It has zebras, dedicated movie buttons and is lighter than D810. No peaking unfortunately but the zoom in for focus is real nice.

Best of all is the low light. It's at least a stop and half over the D810. Compared them side by side. I saw some footage where 12,800 ISO looked good (great with neat video) and 6400 ISO looked damn near perfect. That's shocking for a Nikon dslr video.

So you get one of the best still cameras in the world with perfect 1080p. (And yes it does 60 at 1080 and that looks fantastic as well. Could see no visible banding.

In my opinion the D750 is just as pleasing as 5D raw but without the time involved. If you shoot stills and want high quality video it's something you should consider. If you only shoot stills go with the D810. For video DSLR it's a no brainer with native Nikor lenses.

For mirrorless I would go A7s but if I'm 50% stills and don't need 4K, than I'm going DSLR Nikon. These dudes have upped their game. Big time.

Jon...No expectations. I wanted to see the GH4 in a real world setting...professional actors, director/dp who knows what he's doing etc..
 
I find gear reviewers who put out reviews/specs informative..however..until I actually see a narrative done with a particular cam I reserve judgement.

Have not used the A7s yet, but I have used the 1D C. Yes, it's heavy, cumbersome, and does not have peaking/zebras…and file sizes are huge.
 
However, the image (Canon Log) is stunning. I've seen it on 75 foot screens in Hollywood. It's brilliant with very little color correction needed. The 1D C image will hold up 50 years from now. It's really that good. No exaggeration.  A lot of 'regular' people in the audience thought they were watching a film that had been shot on 35mm film.
 
We can bitch about the price of the cam $ all we want, but the puppy delivers the goods when you view it. Somehow Canon engineers sold their souls to the devil. They're just the best at color science. (skin tones/that 'x' factor) Period. It's voodoo man.
 
That being sad, Andrew is correct, the A7s is lighter, has more video functions, and will be much easier to use. Better in low light, yes, although I shot 12,800 on buddy's short film on the 1D C and it looked amazing. (with minor noise reduction). The image from A7s will not look as good as the 1D C right out of the gate. It will require much more post work. 
 
The 1D C is all built like a tank (you can shoot with it in a hurricane) and is the best stills camera that has ever been made (still is). Over 80% of photogs at the Olympics were using it. (or the 1D X). The Super 35 mode on 1D C looks ZERO difference from the Canon C300. Try and figure that on a side to side test. Impossible.
 
If the 1D C had been sold for $5 grand out of the gate, every indie filmmaker would already own one. (indie films from last 2 years would look better) And they would not have complained at all. The price is what soured the community on the 1D C, not the image.
 
If you shoot at least 50% stills for a living, or you shoot films with a small crew, than the 1D C is still your best bet for DSLR video. If you are budget strapped, are basically a 1 man show, than of course the A7 s will work - even though the rolling shutter is the worst I think I've ever seen from any cam. 
 
I will say this: Canon is absolutely ridiculous for not putting basic video functions on the 1D C from its inception, however. You can bet the 1D C part 2 will have that - and will still have that 'voodoo'. 
 
My 2 cents.

There is a huge difference between "Event Photographers", "Wedding Videographers", 'Landscape Photographers", "Time Lapse" photographers or guys who teach 'Tutorials" even "Photographers" who play around with naked girls on their 5D's to some shite music..or shoot weddings that 95% of them will end in divorce within 5 years..lol...and a real 'filmmaker'.
 
Vimeo should have a seperate section on their site for weddings and the other BS...ad nauseum.
 
Just because a lot of people can buy a $3,500 still cam with video function (or even an Epic/Alexa for that matter) does not make them a Filmmaker.
 
Filmmakers shoot movies. (narrative - even with a 5D). I'll cut you some slack on a great documentarian like Werner Herzog or Ken Burns..but that's it.

Canon 1 DX is the best full frame DSLR right now. Period.
 
Its 2 stops better than 5D3..and much sharper. Almost as sharp as a C300.
 
It's big brother, the 1 DC (availible December 26th) has the slow mo you wish for + it's the best stills camera (DSLR) in the world.

You will see the softness big time on a huge screen - when compared to other cams on a huge screen. However, put some beautiful naked girl dancing with another beautiful naked girl and I really doubt anyone will give a shit. They'll call you the new Coppola :)

Can't wait to compare the video the D800 and the 5D3
