1. Perhaps "Motion Photographer" would be a good term for most enthusiast video people?  : more artistic sounding than "videographer" but less pretentious and assuming than "cinematographer".

Motion Photography is also used for stills .....a Google image search will list samples.

How 'bout:

Cineographer?  Cineography

Cine:

Adjective = Cinematographic

2. He's everywhere!

I'm feeling more than a little scared at the moment.....he could appear without a moments notice....no wonder New Yorkers never sleep :o

3.
They seem to love it. Not hard to see why!
I hope Apple don't have any aspirations of buying BMD - that would be a disaster for end-users, both on the hardware and software front...you'd probably need to connect to iTunes before pressing the record button.

Don't underestimate a custom built Windows PC. I took some joy throwing my last remaining Mac into the trash the other day. It looked good, but that was about the only postive thing I could say about it when comparing its performance to even an average Windows PC, let alone the inferior quality of all the internal components and the absurd price tag, availability of parts and iTunes strangulation........screw Apple!

Thanks for the review Andrew, no surprises there regarding the BMCC, but confirmation is appreciated.
4. I recognise that second clip as being from The Mission; a profound film; so too Apocalypse Now. There is a common 'thread' running through the seam of both films.

One aspect of the Shigascope x1.5 clip uploaded by brucker is the absence of lens element flare/vignette in the corners of frame, especially when the train headlights are pointing directly at the lens at 0:37. There must be a better term for what I am intending to describe. The 'flare' I'm referring to reveals the oval outline of the anamorphic lens elements.

bucker do you have any daylight footage?

Get a Redstan anamorphic clamp, available here: http://www.redstan.com or on eBay.

I believe that the rear thread of these clamps is 52mm.

They will allow you to mount your anamorphic lens securely onto your taking lens and orient it appropriately.
The more recent versions of the Redstan clamps for the Kowa B&H and Kowa Prominar 16-H (8Z) terminate in 62mm threads and have a separate internal retaining ring

The Kowa Prominar 16H (8Z) clamps are similar but have an inner retaining ring of sightly less internal diameter than the Kowa B&H version. The retaining ring has threads on both sides and is designed to mate with the rear threads of the Kowa and the internal thread of the clamp.

The thumbscrews can be loosened to allow secure rotation when setting the correct orientation of the anamorphic attachment.

The image at the link below better defines the relationship between the lens and the clamp.

The Sigma is a little gem as well & only £10-15 on ebay (gold box).
I've just picked up one of those Sigma diopters....least I think I have (waiting for it to arrive), there does not appear to be any specs on the box or the outer ring to indicate 1.6x. There is also a double element variant which may or may not resemble the Canon 500D +2.0 close-up.

Here's a quick test that gives you an idea of the Angenieux +0.3 - on its own & in competition/combination with the Tokina +0.4 Achromat.

Such demonstrations are most helpful; thanks for sharing.

What surprises me most is the difference in FOV when comparing the 0.3 with the 0.4
8. Thanks for the information and link; gives one ideas. NYC is a bit far from my location but I can appreciate what has been accomplished when looking through the exhibition images on the website linked in your post and reading the storyline behind the 13:00 min presentation.

True. Hats off to their corporate philosophy. It is appreciated and respected!

Another "Aussie who shook up the world's film industry" was Jim Frazier with the Frazier Lens system; it would be good to see an affordable version of that system become available to us mere mortals. I'm sure Jim is up to the challenge; I expect Black Magic Design would be a good (trustworthy) partner in such an enterprise.

You mean the shimmer effect? That's actually an optical effect cause by looking through heat rising from the ground. It doesn't show up in the 5D footage because the lens doesn't get close enough.
Thanks for the clarification, I thought that might be the explanation.

my other project without the heat or bullcrap of slr magics lens is my prototype small likle anamorphic.
very quick bursts the lens is back in pieces as it is still got someway to go.
optics still a little soft but
i have now surpassed optex and century in quality and flexibility.
not as wide as those bits of glass but maybe a better look.

the footage is a bit wonky as i held the anamorphic in front of a lovely old cooke lens from charlie chaplin times and so old had no filter thread
