If the EOSHD site was solely about cameras, and that was it, full stop, then I say a ban on politics is fine.
However, Andrew's site has always been a place that is non-corporate and "unsterile," if you will.  He's not afraid to drop his opinion and that's why I stick around.  If I want bland regurgitated information, there's plenty of on-line options for that.
Crossing the line is something all of us but the most rhetorically disciplined have been close to doing, but erring on the side of staying respectable isn't too hard to do.
And, ultimately, EOSHD is a site that prioritizes gear, but also exists as a refuge for aspiring filmmakers.  Filmmakers should have passion.  Otherwise, what are we?  Just content creators?  That's okay for some I guess, but standing for one's ideals with integrity and rationality should be a filmmaker's or artist's ethos.
One of the most influential people in my life was a high school teacher that was willing to engage us students.  He would talk about the world and encourage us to participate in it as productive citizens. His lectures were fascinating revelations about his value system and why it worked.  Often times we would stray from that semester's syllabus and spend the whole hour just chatting about ideas.  We were a room of equals simply by the way he behaved and respected us, a bunch of dumb high-schoolers that really didn't deserve such treatment... but there he was giving us agency when every one else in the system, it seemed, wanted to make sure we stayed in our place.
Funny thing was, he was an auto-shop teacher.  The other funny thing was that he was a staunch conservative.  An 'all-in' Reaganite; can't even count how many times he went on about Thatcher either, to give you an idea.
I thought his ideas about society we're complete and utter rubbish.  Still do.  But the fact that he didn't beat me down with ad-hominem attacks because I disagreed with him, and encouraged me to debate made him the best teacher I ever had.
I still can't do a valve job properly and fix a timing chain, but he let me realize how important it was to have integrity, a slightly more important lesson.
Meanwhile I had a liberal English teacher so far up her own ass you couldn't say one thing to her sideways without her feeling insulted.  And she was teaching writing for god's sakes!
So there you go.  My anecdotal response.  Whoopie-de-doo.  Bottom line, conservatives ain't all bad, but some are.  Liberals ain't all bad, but some are.  Be kind and try to ignore the true jerks that just don't want to respect you.

Fair play. Was just reminiscing the good days and thinking of all the contribitions that had been made and the people who made them, really. But good note to end things on there.
Guess everyone's been a bit on edge these days, to calmer times then.

Totally agree, true arsehats. FYI, in a previous life I worked with Universities, software licencing and international conferences around same. Adobe also got themselves involved in this; short end of a couple of stories: 1) they constantly and unethically got their suite into University labs, then when later there were ongoing problems, they constantly stitched us up with 'fixes' (ie, more and more money). and 2) hopeless, they got hacked & exposed customer credit card info etc, including my own; quite a drama with my bank about that, needed new card to be created etc. Adobe never even apologised, in fact at the time, was near impossible to cancel my account and could eventually only do this via eff-ing Twitter (yet another piece of useless garbage).
In all: 'vote with your pockets'. If the numbers go down dramatically for Adobe, then this effects their shareholders, then their psycopathic practices. Also: there are many other excellent alternatives in any software area: many companies deliberately offer alternatives to this awful subscription model. eg: DaVinci Resolve instead of Premier, Nuendo /Cubase instead of Avid Pro Tools ... the list goes one. Vote with your pocket.

Whats with the anti-premiere topics lately? If you don't like the product don't use it. Premiere has it's flaws like all the video editing programs but it's still reliable and has been solid for me tbh

Incredible. This was a free dongle with a camera.
But no matter how good the competition is, coming off Premiere is like trying to stop smoking. Not easy due to the years of muscle memory.

Creative Cloud is anti-competitive, locking users into a perpetual payment plan with no guarantee of future costs. What started at Adobe has spread like a cancer in the software and creative app industry with subscriber-only plans rather than a one off purchase price. Our subscriptions as businesses, enthusiasts and consumers are stacking up and becoming a real monthly headache, and it is time governments looked into regulating the subscription software industry - starting with the king bastard of them all, Adobe.

Node based workflows are superior to layers and lumetri by a long shot. That feature is one of the biggest and best that DaVinci offers. I used to think otherwise when I was using Adobe alot, but I can not work any other way.

In my opinion, this fact gives so much value to products like the P4K, that is both unprecedented and even unbelievable!

I am in the wedding business, photography & video and have mixed views on this.
First of all, there is a lot more competition. a LOT more. Since I started out close to 20 years ago, there are at least as 10x as many offering a service.
Also, the competition is a LOT better than it ever has been, both in quality of output and in regard to marketing it.
Video is less crowded than photography however as the learning curve is steeper and the production times longer, - less appeal for many ie, less see it as a fast buck, whereas with photography, everyone with a camera thinks they can do it.
Bollocks, it takes years and dozens of different scenarios to get really good at it. I came from 5 years of college and uni photography and reckon it took me nearly 8 years until I felt I really knew what i was doing without having to really think about it.
Then there is this 'race to the bottom'. It's been talked about for years and to an extent, it is true...but at the same time, not completely.
The trick of it is twofold.
First, you need to be offering something that is on another level to 'the rest'. I am not saying you need to be the best in the world, but better than anyone else they will probably look at. Ideally, you need to have a number of 'points of difference' and deliver this message with clarity. People have increasingly shorter attention spans.
Second, you need to be found by the type of people that are your clients. This may only be 1% of the entire market. Or less. If you are trying to appeal to all and catch fish with a massive net, you might actually be better off with a rod and fishing for one species only.
In regard to the latter, you can try and have a broad appeal and try to snag that 1% through the sheer volume approach or target your marketing and have a much smaller volume of contact, but a much higher booking rate.
I've found the latter works for me and prefer the 'larger fish in the smaller pond' approach works better.
Over the years, I have seen so many 'young bucks' come into the industry.
First of all they are full of enthusiasm and it drives them for a while and all that energy helps compensate for the relatively low prices most charge, fully intending to put them up once established.
They then try to do that and the work begins to dry up. Most then give up and go back to their 9-5 day job with all it's securities when they realise the reality is not swanning around the world at their clients expense and editing on a laptop in coffee shops.
One other thing I have found is that 'good enough' is not good enough and you need to go above and beyond simply to maintain your position. It's extremely easy to get sucked downstream and incredibly hard to swim upstream/against the current.
The latter can be done, but to get that extra 10%, often requires another 100% effort. Is it worth it? Maybe...
But yes, I 'lose' out sometimes to the sub 500 photographer who either promises the moon on a stick, or more often than not, don't and they (the clients) know they won't be getting much...but that exists in all kinds of services. Or the client deludes themselves that the cheaper option will work out for them only to regret it. Doesn't help us if they do however as folks rarely pay twice and in weddings, never.
To conclude, another couple of attributes any small creative business needs are a thick skin and a lot of drive/determination.
I would not want to be starting out in photography/video today knowing what I know and would persuade my daughter against it.
The bottom line though is that there IS a market still and a very good one but it's a case of finding the right one for you and working it. Continually. Just like an athlete, there are some people who are naturally gifted, but they can and will be beaten by someone with not so far off genetics that grafts harder then the rest.
Oh and one other thought, I have tried several times unsuccessfully to get into the commercial market and in the end gave up concluding I could just not make it work for whatever reason, so I plod along with weddings which I genuinely enjoy shooting. Not overly keen on the whole industry and what goes on behind the scenes, but that is another story...

They probably don't. It is either the beginning of their career and they have build up their reputation or they have day jobs. Once they become too expensive, another up-and-coming player will take their place. Hopefully, they haven't quite their day job by then.
At the end of the day, the marketplace can only support so many full time professional videographers and there will always be a need for "just good enough" amateur jobs. Speaking without any statistics to go on, videography is more accessible than ever and more and more people try to make a living doing it and that is why there has been a more vocal outcry about the diminishing prices of jobs. If a reasonably good videographer was hard to get, prices could be higher.

    I entirely agree!!
Atomos need to be brave and make a 4K recorder in the mould of a battery grip, specific to certain cameras like the Nikon Z6.
Instead of an HDMI cable and top heavy hot-shoe mounting, it would screw into the base of the camera, with moulded hand-grip same as the usual battery grip for mirrorless cams.
Then the HDMI port could go into a firm side wall on the grip that extends only fractionally upward at the side of the camera, enough to reach the HDMI port and allow the camera to slide in sideways so that the connection is made, then secured through the tripod mount like a normal battery grip.
See the Sony A7 III battery grip for design reference but inside instead of a load of empty space and a couple of batteries, it has one battery and a Ninja 4K chipset.
It could even power the camera for a bit longer battery life. No worries having to babysit two shit batteries, one in the camera and one on the back of an external monitor.
