OK! suddenly 4K 60 8bit internal isn't looking quite so exciting. 😄 I mean 8k is overkill, but for future-proofing the stock video I shoot, it definitely doesn't hurt.  And being able to shoot 4k at 100fps instead of 50 (because shooting in houses with 50hz electricity makes 60  fps a no-no).
Unless of course in 5 years time if your video isn't 16K HDR 360, 14 bit raw nobody will want to know it.  In which case I may as well not sell all my nikon gear

The only thing I haven't tried is writing to Adobe management.
Adobe doesn't really have regions for its product support.  Writing to Adobe Australia I'm sure would be a waste of time, but no more so than all the other wastes of time so maybe I'll try that.

I put up with shooting on the d5300 because I liked the image it produced. I think the way to feel happy about owning a z6 is to think of it as a full frame mirrorless 5600.  From that point of view it's a vast improvement.  (But yes, why they followed the amateur paradigm in these cameras and not the d8xx I dunno. I try not to get started thinking about their product decisions in the last 5 years.  I've got high blood pressure as it is).
    The image is lovely though.
I see the incremental upgrade as a positive sign: this is Nikon reacting quickly to a quickly changing market. That's new. Previously they'd make you wait 4 years.
A z6 with 4k 60? I'd love it.  (If they can work on the af a bit too that would be peachy).

    Think about it like this.
FCPX, PP, Resolve, and other programs, will all exist in some way over the next decade.  In all likelihood they will have new versions, new features, new bugs, various frustrations and limitations, and various performance levels doing different tasks on various hardware platforms.
Over the course of the next decade, which do you feel would be the best total experience for you?  ie, experiencing the ups and downs of PP for that whole time, going with an alternative for that whole time, or sticking with PP now but transitioning at some point in the future.  Think about the hardware required, the whole package.
If you feel you'd be better off with another package, then think about the best time to switch.  Over the next decade you'll buy multiple new computers, cameras, and other equipment, so think about the best time to switch.
Factoring in the next decade, switching platforms isn't such a big deal, especially if the grass is actually greener on the other side - you'd be eating better grass long after the scrapes from climbing the barb-wire fence have healed and long been forgotten.
Changing software packages isn't a chore, it's an investment.  You invest time, energy, money for the software, maybe new hardware even, but you would do so if the return was worth it over the longer-term.  Think about the cost of your frustration.  How it impacts your quality of life and creativity.  How demotivating it is.
If it's worth making that investment, then choose when is the best time.  In the middle of a project with a deadline isn't that best time, maybe there are other factors to consider too.  but if it's worth switching then schedule it in your life, then do it.

The thing is, Blackmagic aren't busy laughing at their customers, so they have more time to respond.

This is in such contrast to Blackmagic. Whenever Ive had a problem with Resolve, I just email them and get a response within a day or two. And that's for a FREE product! Back a few years ago I even got a direct response from a senior engineer there.

I agree, the huge delay did mean the Z6 squandered the majority of the lead it had over its competition. And least the good news is that the Nikon Z6s should have this enabled (and no need to be returned to the factory either!) from Day 1 of the camera launch. (and if it doesn't, that would be a major WTF!)

I've been trying to report a bug to adobe since 2017.  This is not my record. That goes to a bug between lightroom and photoshop that appeared in 2008.  I tried and failed for years on that one. They say, don't they, the definition of madness is repeating the same futile action over and over...
I'm thinking about making a short film about what you have to do to get adobe's attention.  I've tried the forum, and the uservoice site (where they, in a Trump-esque stroke of not-testing-for-coronavirus genius, removed their bug-reporting form).   I tried phoning them, and then doing a chat session. I was lucky to make it out of that one alive.  Honestly If there had been any sharp object on my desk I would've been a goner.
Recently I looked up a bunch of the senior devs and quality managers and tweeted them, or wrote to them on linked in.  Just now I've been sending any employees who engaged in any small way a message via their forum. I have very very low expectations.
I was thinking maybe I could pull some stunts to get their attention. Streak in their offices, or skywriting maybe?
Yes I know i should move to resolve.  But I'm deep in the sunk-cost fallacy, OK?
Here's my latest pointless waste of time:

When you shoot prores externally on Z6 the quality of the footage is remarkable. I don't think that you can get anything better image wise for under 10k.

What specifically makes you want to go back to a DSLR (just DSLRs, or do you include mirrorless too?) for shooting with? As this is kinda odd to want to go backwards to a DSLR (especially as you're not into photography). What exactly makes you "regret bitterly" that you bought the blackmagic?

If you can nail down these answers, it would be easier to figure out what is the best cameras for you to consider.

My personal conclusion - it's great. Well worth. Image quality is amazing, the image "thinkness" I get is great for grading. Just shot a project were we risked using 3 different cameras to capture simultaneously. Z6 with prores RAW, bmpcc 4K and GH5. While all are realtively easy to bring close ( I use Sage's Bmpcc and GH5 to Alexa LUTs and convert Z6 prores raw to logC to apply Arri Alexa LUTs further), Z6 image stands out imo. Yes, it's pixel-binned, not pixel-for-pixel full readout, but there are only very specific situation where you'd notice some artefacts. Never in normal shooting conditions. That's my experience.

It's never been an issue for me, but I also don't use it in spontaneous ways. I always have it on and ready for when I need to record, not because it's slow to boot up (I never noticed that really) but just because that's how I've always been.

I use my dr60d mk2 with a powerbank  tacked with scratch tape on its back. It works for hours running an ntg-2  (And you can easily replace the powerbank. )

Add up what I suggested, it still is cheaper than merely just what your camera body by itself cost! (let alone your entire camera kit)

So in context, the price is very reasonably frugal and in proportion. (if anything... it's too cheap! And out of proportion in not being enough)

    Yup! Indeed, it's like that

Although I say it is more accurately like someone asking "what sub $100 camera to get and you recommend a secondhand Panasonic G7 or even G6 with Chinese CCTV C Mount lenses".

As I'm definitely not suggesting anything like a S1H!! And often there simply are no good sub $100 (or $200) cameras to recommend, thus if someone asks the best response is to tell them to up their budget or just keep on shooting with their cellphone, rather than wasting a hundred bucks on a disposable camera.

N-log gives you way more dynamic range and color information. You can only go to 60p to external recorder though. RAW seems to be worth it if you have an NLE that supports it.
Honestly I would recommend it, if not for this project for future ones.

I've got one of these plus the sl150
The 150 is a crap ton brighter, and is almost a perfect colour match (but not totally identical)
The word is to avoid the sl200, it's very green.
I also bought a cheap fresnel
    https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Bowens_Fresnel/Ntt/Bowens+Fresnel/N/0
This coupled with silver boards gives a nice backlight keylight.
I made my own silverboards from insulation foam.
Personally I think these lights are way more versatile than led panels.

Been a few years since I've used Tascam DR60D so I can't remember exactly how long the AA batteries lasted me then, but all you needed to do is slap a USB powerbank on it and your worries are over. Although, it took a firmware update first:

    http://ironfilm.co.nz/firmware-update-for-tascam-dr-60d-mk1-fixes-recording-interruptions-when-running-on-external-usb-power-packs/

However, you don't need to do even that for the newer DR60Dmk2, works out of the box.

For an ultra low budget talking head IVs, get this basic sound package:
    Oktava MK012 HC
Deity S Mic 2 kit (get the kit, so you get the shockmount and wind protection for cheap too)
    C Stand & sandbag
    Boom Buddy
Boom Pole (even an Alu pole would be fine, as you're never holding it. Although I'd usually always recommend a carbonfibre pole)
    Secondhand UWP-D11 / G3
Tascam DR60Dmk2 (but absolutely do stretch to a F4/F6/MixPre3 if you can)

For when you're shooting handheld, keep it basic and just have a V-Mic D3 Pro on the camera.

I picked up a Godox SL60 for under £100, works a treat! I think they have newer versions out now that'll hopefully drive the price down even further.
