Actually that makes it even more sound like just an A7sIII in another housing since both may as well use exactly the same firmware now.

So you're still handicapped by horrible NR, oversharpening at -7 detail, no shutter angle, no 3D Lut support for output via HDMI, no scopes, no 48p, no true 24p, no DCI 4K etc.

    But yaaay Cinetone 🙄

More like; paid myself 24k less last year and my business went 9k into debt with a loan.
1/3rd of this year’s bookings have already either postponed or cancelled so as things stand, it’s either going to be a case of 50% as bad as last year, or worst case, 100% as bad.
The ONLY reason I am even looking beyond my S5 (plural once business does get going again) is the reliability of the tracking AF and actually, it’s not enough to get in a pickle about. It does everything else I both want and need it to.
Ah well, c’est la vie. I’m still interested to see exactly what the FX3 turns out to be though it seems pretty much most of it is now known, but financially, not only does it not make sense, it’s not even doable.
Also curious about Sigma’s FP-L announcement, next week I think...

I am testing the FX6 soon to see if its color and IQ are closer to C300/C70 than FS5II/A7sII before making any decisions (because if it still feels like old Sony image, I'm out).
But this camera still excites me as the ideal B-Cam to something like the FX6 or FX9. Every other cinema camera lacks a true, compact, mirrorless-like b-camera (same mount, some color, same codecs, same sensor size, same lenses, etc). I would get WAY more excited if it has: timecode, a 3.5mm input on the body, S-Cinetone, and touchscreen AF.
Those features plus all of the new Sigma lenses, the move to full-frame cinema, Zeiss Loxia line (which I loved), all make the E-Mount a very exciting possibility. BUT, all the specs, bells, and whistles don't mean much if I'll be wishing I had my old Canon image a year later.

Moved to ‘sitting on the fence’.
I’m less interested in a pure ciné camera and more interested in a video centric hybrid.
The final spec vs cost vs Panasonic S5 will decide for me.
And yes I know the humble S5 is not it’s competitor but it’s the camera that currently ticks more of my boxes than anything else.
Second place is joint Fuji XT4 and Sony A7Siii with Fuji losing points due to lack of lenses that suit my needs and Sony on being ‘only’ 12mp and price.
We are still at least one single component away from my ideal spec, my S5 in two areas: video tracking AF and no internal ND or at least drop in filter.
The FX3 is certainly shaping up to be less of a contender than it was a week ago when it was heading for near dead cert territory.
The lack of any form of ND, internal or drop in is the biggest disappointment. If the speculation/rumors are true...

Ok I don't really see the value of this camera if the specs are genuinely confirmed as of now : it seems to be basically a Sony a7SIII in a different body.
So no ND, same 3:2 screen on a video dedicated camera, etc. Despite the fan to prevent overheating and the EVF missing, it seems to be the same.
What's the reason for buying this model over the A7sIII? For now I don't know.
My initial excitement is going down after each rumor update.

Ok so I don't listen to a lot of rumors but when it comes to Noshikita, they're quite reliable. Did you guys see the next cinema line camera that Sony should announce this month likely?

Maybe I'm jaded after last year, but I'm struggling to get any excitement in a camera that is more speculation than fact.  Aside from what it looks like, how much do we know?
With the way this year is going, my investment in gear will again be low.  If BM release a new camera, it may get me to cough up some of my savings.... however, I have plans for lighting, lenses  audio gear and updating my graphics card more on my list of needs.
Its great that Sony have joined the small cinema camera group.  I'm still wondering what the catch is.  If they offer a codec like ProRes and have internal NDs, then it will be of interest to me.  I'm not too fussed about IBIS.  Canon C70 came very close to being of interest, but a high price tag and limited to H264/5 codec puts me off.
Only a year ago, everyone was jumping up and down in excitement over the announcement of a new Canon mirrorless hybrid, and we know how that story ended.  So I struggle to feel too much excitement now.  Though partly thats because its hard to get too keen over a camera when I lack work to both pay for it and use it.

I think so too. but the price is really at the advantage of the Sony with a bigger sensor, even if it needs the dedicated XLR adapter to be able to compete with the C70 in the sound department.
But the only unknown remains the presence of a built in ND or even better E-ND.
If it has this feature, it's way more interesting that the Canon C70 in my opinion.

The multi-interface shoe is also capable of supporting an EVF as Sony did with the RX1 and the RX100M2 so it would be interesting to see if a new version of that appears for this camera.

I undesrtand now why the Sony a7sIII doesn't feature 4K DCI, shutter angle, Synchro Scan, and all the bells and whistles of real cine cameras. I just bought a Sony a7sIII two days ago. I feel like this could interest me even more if it's kind of the Sony version of the c70...
I'm  genuinely excited to know more about this camera.

I will take an internal variable ND over IBIS every single time.
Stab options include Catalyst Wotsit or mono/tripod.
This thing looks VERY interesting, - the love child of the FX6 and the Sigma FP.

No mechanical IBIS would maybe make possible the integration of a built-in VND. That would be awesome.

Rumors say 8k. The a1 readout and e-shutter make for a fine hybrid. The shutter button makes sense. With the AF joystick on top, I wonder if the LCD is much wider than the standard Sony screen. That would be welcome. This is interesting. Give it the E-ND’s and my a7sIII starts sweating it’s existence.

    Holy. Moly.
Honestly, it's ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME one of these companies took mirrorless form factor videos 100% seriously. The Sigma FP was the closest, but obviously had a lot of issues. C70 was close, but still big for a small b-cam/gimbal cam. S1H was close, but still a hybrid. A7sIII, same - has video limitations.
This could be the all-in video mirrorless though. But that will depend on a few things: does it have timecode, some audio solutions, shutter angle, and (most importantly) INTERNAL electronic ND FILTER!!! That last one is the kicker.
I've always bashed Sony for their colors and thin IQ, but the FX9 and FX6 definitely seem to be going in the right direction, so one of those cameras plus this as a b-cam could be a killer combo.

I've thought a few times about what a GH6 would have to have to be better than the GH5 for me, and there's not many things TBH.  Of course, I'm not the kind of person who these 24K - 300 FPS - internal RAW - 48fps burst - eyelash AF - 8kg - $12599 cameras seem to be aimed at.
I have stuff invested in MFT too, but would happily re-buy a GH5 if mine broke and if I felt the need to change platforms then it would be far enough in the future that the FF camera I would buy with enough features for me wouldn't be that expensive and the lenses available are just getting more and more available and affordable.
I had a burst of FOMO around FF just recently, thinking that if I even change to FF then the lenses that I'd want might be vintage primes and might all be too expensive at that point and I'd have missed out, but I kind of realised that there are enough good FF lenses available new that I could get a 'good enough' set, and partially compensate with filters.
Still, if someone gave me one of these new A1 cameras then it would be great - I'd sell it and buy more interesting vintage lenses 🙂
