The lower resolution slightly soft image is one of the cornerstones of the Canon look. It's very flattering for close-ups

Personally I think that it works less than brilliantly as you are stuck with the same shutter speed as you are using for video i.e. 1/50 or 1/60 which is going to end up with blurry images 50% of the time.

More likely is that Canon's market feedback & sales suggests that 95% of those enthusiasts purchasing a DSLR don't care two hoots about video as they are buying a camera to take still photographs.

What is classed as fair use of copyright material varies in different jurisdictions but generally extends to reporting news, parody or academic study. It does not involve taking somebody else's work & using it to enhance & improve yours.

You have that wrong. The C100 is an incredibly popular camera used by thousands of working professionals. Admittedly it's not so popular with the cheapskate amateurs on this forum but that's only because they cannot afford one

You seem to be confusing rules with conventions. To quote one example of breaking a cinema 'rule' if you want to pan faster than the ASC recommendations you are able to do so or if you want to shoot at some other frame rate than 24fps you are at liberty to do so e.g. Peter Jackson's 'Hobbit' films.

It's not ISO3200 that's noisy per se it's the fact that there isn't enough light. Add light or get a lens with a wider aperture.

Why on earth would you want to use a dumb gimmick like creative filters? If you want to mess up the image then do it in post with the best possible image as shot. This silly stuff us just targeted at amateurs.

Adding movement to a shot with a gentle Ken Burns effect is a very common trick in post as an alternative to movement produced by using track & dolly (or slider on a smaller production). It works well with just enough movement to be interesting but not so much that the lack of parallax becomes apparent.

Your enthusiasm does you credit but also gives you tunnel vision. Sorry to burst your bubble but the predominant market for Panasonic stills cameras even quite capable hybrids like the GH3 & G6 is overwhelmingly for taking still photographs.

You are almost certainly panning too fast. It's really surprising just how slow you need to do it. If you can't pan slowly enough it's better to do a whip pan as the brain accepts that better than the jitters of a fast pan.

I don't think it looks that bad. The current OM-D really needs the add-on grip to make it more comfortable to hold. That's the right hand grip not the battery grip underneath. That grip looks to now be extremely sculpted on the new OM-D but could well be for ergonomic reasons.

I imagine that the pessimism is because they cannot even manage to ship the very first model BMCC that was supposed to ship over a year ago. This is still not available for purchase anywhere that I can find in the UK. You can order it but nowhere has stock.

nigelbb got a reaction from Ernesto Mantaras in Canon 1D C vs 5D Mark III Raw (and C300 / GH2 resolution comparison)
It's irrelevant. GH2 resolution is not improved by any hack. Unlike Magic Lantern which is reverse engineered new firmware providing a lot of new functionality the GH2 hack just alters internal registers that control how the image is compressed & recorded.

Is there some technical reason why the raw images have to be written to the CF card when Canon just released firmware for the 5D3 that gives a clean HDMI output so that a Ninja or Hyperdeck Shuttle can be attached as SSDs are cheaper & larger capacity than 1000x CF cards.

Interesting that you should shoot weddings. I saw a photographer at a wedding fair the other day & his USP was that he shot all on film. He had some nice large prints & albums but the style was more blurry & arty than what we are used to nowadays. Of course the danger if you get a taste for film photography is to realise why wedding photographers used to use medium format cameras with a negative size 3-4x the size of a 35mm negative then discover that while a Hasselblad is still very expensive that a used Mamiya 645 can found found on eBay at a very affordable price. It's a slippery slope...

I thought that the choice was between a Hackintosh & a used Mac Pro & I would plump for the latter. However if the budget is higher then a new top of the range iMac will give you outstanding performance & with Applecare worry free computing for years.

Recording direct to ProRes on a Ninja 2 would make editing quicker & nicer. It should also evade the 29'59" clip length limit as this only applies to recordings on the camera. The clean HDMI out should have no time limitation as it could be feeding a monitor rather than recording.

    Good to hear Jon.

You could perhaps try and uninstall the hack and have a look at the quality the camera produces, then compare with the hacked. I began with hacking mine when I got it, tried without for a while, and never hacked again other than freeing the PAL/NTSC, ISO and time restriction. The GH2 is a magnificent tool even unhacked, and the various hacks can change that a fraction, but often at the cost of instability, more noise, time spent and more expensive cards needed.

I'm sure I'll be stoned for this heresy, but just give it a chance and see for yourself ;o) Be sure to use a good screen when comparing though!
[/quote]+++100% There is an enormous amount of Placebo effect with the GH2 hacks.
