DPC got a reaction from Tim Fraser in Olympus E-M5 Mark II - love and hate at first sight
At the end of a day testing cameras for a shoot tomorrow, all I can say is that it's not a straightforward as I thought when I posted this morning's test.
In fact, against my GH4 and 5D MK III, the EM5 Mk2's skin tones look really good. The colours are great and the files are very easily tweaked.
Downloading John Brawley's ungraded files is quite informative, by the way.

I got mine today (I wanted to use it on a specific project very soon). First impressions are that Andrew is being a bit hard on the image quality but I am far from finishing my tests.
That said, here are a few things that do bother me -
    - no way to adjust exposure or ISO when shooting video
    - no way to do custom white balance in movie mode ( you have to go to stills mode to do this)
    - no enlarged view when manually focusing in movie mode
    - apparently no way to refocus using auto focus while shooting movies
    - there is an INCREDIBLE crop when in movie mode. More than on the GH4 in 4K. I think this is what bothers me most of all. Totally unexpected.
    But...
    - build quality is beautiful
    - peaking seems to work better than on my GH4
    - a quick test combining shutter priority exposure, stabilisation and continuous autofocus was really good (and will be good for quick, steady walk-through shots)
My reasoning getting this was that it would (more or less) do the job of a gimbal. For what I do I just don't have time to mess around with rigging and it's not practical to have multiple cameras set up on different stabilisation devices. Despite all the drawbacks listed above, I think it might still serve the intended purpose.

DPC got a reaction from Xavier Plagaro Mussard in Metabones Canon EF Speedbooster + Tokina 11-16: no infinity focus
In case someone else has the same problem, this is what happened: the Speedbooster was delivered with the screw that holds the rear lens element in place completely loose.
At some point the element was cleaned with a cloth and moved, thus making infinity focus impossible. I have readjusted and locked the screw down and all seems to be well.
I'm sure you will understand that I'm not at all happy...

DPC got a reaction from Lammy in Top Gear - Clarkson contract won't be renewed by BBC. Should there be one rule for talent, one rule for "the rest"?
Last night I watched Frances Ha. Shot on a 5D. Now that is something I would like to see discussed here. A lout and cars, not so much.

John, at the risk of sounding flippant, I think what most people want is simply what Olympus said they would get.

Just to put some perspective on the "Micro 43 is no good for stills" - Jérôme Sessini of Magnum just won the World Press with one and his colleagues Moises Saman, Alex Majoli and Peter Van Agtmael all use the format.

I did a little testing this morning. Moiré is definitely present.
