I think you're looking at many tens of thousands for a full Film Master system, anywhere up to £100k plus - although, I suppose that's about par for the course for the high-end DI solutions. I've not spent any time on Film Master myself, but I'd quess it'd be over kill for most peoples needs.

Agreed with those saying that not having HDMI is [i]not[/i] a bad thing - this camera is clearly aimed at the more serious hobbyist or emerging professional, so SDI is the right choice... With any luck, Thunderbolt might even allow us to do more than just monitor and record.

True, it's a shame there aren't any particularly cheap SDI monitors out there, but - based on spec alone - if you were looking to record 2k+ footage elsewhere, you'd be forking out much more than it'd cost to buy the BM CC and a good SDI monitor.

Sure, anyone buying this [i]might[/i] have to make a few compromises in terms of ergonomics, but really - how many of us aren't recording on rigs/tripods? This thing isn't designed to replace a GoPro or a small handheld camcorder.

I'll admit YouTube is generally a terrible delivery format, but it does support very-HD and will evolve with the technology.

Indie filmmakers whose livelihood is from YouTube have been dying for a 2k+ camera in the sub-$10k range, many already using RED Scarlet or Epics if they can get their hands on them...

The FS700 appears to offer a very interesting and versatile package, albeit I suspect you'll get better results recording externally - definitely one worth keeping an eye on. My gut (based on no science at all) is that the BM CC will be a great little package for high end YouTubers, especially those using a lot of VFX - exactly your kind of thing. Both will work excellently with Zeiss's CP.2 lenses, but they ain't cheap!

Sara's bang on: if you can afford to, wait, but expect to wait a while because you'll be at the back of the queue when you finally make up your mind. In the meantime, get in touch with other YouTube producers and see what they're thinking.

Not a bad day in the world of HD: first, perhaps a little later than some might have hoped, RED flesh out details for 6k+ then, looking to fill a gap in the market this site has been making a big deal of lately [coincidence..?], we have BMD's new camera.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Blackmagic and I'll be very interested to see how this develops - it certainly has great potential...

Now, out of curiosity, can someone point me in the direction of a 12-bit, 2.5k reference monitor that doesn't cost more than the camera? ;)

I thought about mentioning Livestream, but wasn't sure what the time constraints were like for the OP. Hadn't come across the LiveShell device before, so good call on that, could be easy/low-cost option if the limitations don't put him off.

I love the sound of this project, but...

What kind of footage do you want to capture: wide-angle, full court or player-focused zoom? Will you be using just the one camera or many and will they be stationary or moving? Do you need to overlay any visual effects onto the stream? Will you have a stable broadband internet connection?

These and a dozen more questions could impact the kind of equipment and workflow you're going to need to pull off a live stream like you described.

At the very least, you'll need a camera or camcorder capable of providing a clean-feed output via composite, HDMI or SDI and a means to capture that feed to a PC/Mac for encoding.

In terms of cameras, I'm not convinced the Canon 600D is your best option; I'd choose the Panasonic GH2 over that almost any day, but especially in this situation.

As for capture and encoding, I'd recommend taking a look at the options available from TeraDek (excellent, wireless solution for capturing camera footage and streaming it to the internet) and Blackmagic Designs.

I suppose that depends on whether the rest of your camera equipment is outputting via HD/SD-SDI; if not, you're adding an unnecessary step in your workflow by choosing the Samurai.

Both the Samurai and Ninja are essentially the same product, albeit with different input options: with the Nikon D800  and most other consumer-grade cameras outputting via HDMI, you'd probably be best going with the Ninja.
