More info with video of the firmware.
    http://www.newsshooter.com/2014/11/20/panasonic-gh4-v-log-picture-profile-spotted-in-the-wild/

    quote from newsshoter
" By technical editor Matt Allard:
A GH4 on the Panasonic stand at the Inter BEE show in Tokyo today was running beta firmware with the V-Log picture profile. This Log profile is similar to the one in the much more expensive Varicam 35. This would be a very welcome enhancement for anyone trying to get the best possible image from the GH4, and a huge advantage for colourists trying to match the GH4 with other cameras.

I spoke to a Panasonic representative who told me that the V-Log Picture Profile was only being tested at the moment and isn’t confirmed for the next firmware release. Interestingly enough though I did run into a Japanese shooter who had V-Log operational on his GH4.
Lets hope that it is indeed scheduled to be included in Panasonic’s upcoming firmware update."

I agree it is bad they do not have live HDMI out, and I can see that in your situation it is especially frustrating, but they are a FAR cry from Canon!

Worst case, you can start the recording before you take off, and mount a tiny camera w/transmitter on the quad copter - I have heard others are planning on doing this. Yes, it's a pain, but at least you can get the shot. Try to get 4K out of anything portable and affordable from Canon :)

On the multirotor forums people were salivating over the possibility of flying this; GoPro fisheye gets old, and flying a gh4 sized package requires exponentially larger and more expensive rigs. I've got a copter I built just for the gh4 but I just don't want to deal with the stress of flying $7500 worth of equipment around if I don't have to. WiFi operates on similar frequency to my control radio so there's no way I'm flying an active WiFi transmitter around. Anyway end of detour

In clear line of sight I am sure the WiFi link from LX100 to the ground would work reasonably well. I'd try that first.

Shame Panasonic seem to have shot themselves in the foot though because LX100 would otherwise be so great on a drone.

Cheers. Yeah it absolutely is a go-everywhere one. Think how many photos we take with our phones and some of them are just lovely... now think how much better these would be from the LX100 :)

Oh and when P mode is active with shutter & aperture to their "A for auto" positions on the dial, Auto ISO works just fine whilst recording video, and you can use the exposure comp setting to gain up / down.

I would never put a camera into my pockets, that place is full of dust and you won't get it out a camera with fixed lens. You also don't want to stress the aligment between lens and sensor.

Adding jacks and circuits adds space. Also there is of course the interest of panasonic to somewhat protect the gh4. I think before judging that too harshly, the gh4 is an incredibly affordable pro solution for video, and for the money what you get with lx100 and fz1000 is an incredible steal. Look at what canon, Nikon and Sony provides to consumers in terms of features and quality vs price on the video front.

If I had to guess, I think Andrew is always slating Canon because he loves his gear and the technology - and Canon have held back when everyone else hasn't. Because his site is named EOSHD and he owns lots of Canon lenses, he is frustrated with the company who were a great influence in starting this blog (I might be so wrong).

The C100 MkII seems awesome for it's purpose. Anything more and you are looking at an FS7 (much more suited to my type of work).

Cameras like the A7S and the GH4 are not 'alternatives' or 'better' than the C100 MkII because they have more impressive specs. The C100 MkII is a totally different tool for a people who need it's features and nothing more.

I still make a living from my GH3. Nobody ever asks what camera I'm shooting on. They comment on the ideas. Just make stuff and use the most appropriate and helpful tools you can get your hands on.  :D

I don't see dual system recording as a hindrance any more, at least now with the built-in sync features in FCPX. If you are committed to audio quality, it is actually an advantage. I film a lot of long-form interviews. The Sony FS100 is my workhorse, but control over audio is so much better with a Zoom H6 as it records my microphones on independent track files and it allows an audio person delegated to the task to monitor it more closely. Unless you desperately needed SDI connections, I don't get why anyone would buy the overpriced, impractical, externally-powered YAGH interface. What a colossal waste of money! I suspect far more people in the GH4 price bracket need XLR inputs rather than SDI outputs. Buy a Zoom and use the money you save for augmenting your audio solutions.

My GH3 gets used as a secondary camera on interview shoots. Most people who comment on these forums must not run long times, because I don't see many comments about how It's the ONLY DSLR style camera that will record over 29 minutes without restarting. Ever interview anyone "important?" They don't abide multiple takes for BS camera geek reasons that could otherwise be avoided with advance planning. Get your shot right and let it roll. The battery life is at least 2 hours of running time. Just a whisker under 2 hours on a 64GB card in the highest bitrate. So yeah, I'm thinking of buying 3 GH4s for a 4k multicam setup, slapping my ZE primes on them with speedboosters. If the A7s recorded chained files, I'd consider it instead. Oh, and no internal 4k, but at least finally an improved codec from Sony.

There are always tradeoffs. GH3/4 will never do low light like my FS100. You can't push it around in post like a Blackmagic. I find myself using longer focal length lenses to approximate the look of a bigger sensor when using mft. It's just the geometry of the glass and sensor, and sometimes it is a hassle. But whatevs. Light it and shoot it right and the Panasonic will do its job. Panasonic should be applauded for delivering so much for so little.

And heck, spend a few days with FilmConvert. It's not a bad option for color-matching different cameras.

I see no truly compelling reason here to upgrade from our current C100s for corporate/event work. Unless of course the image is significantly better, which is possible, but not likely.

The FS7 just makes more sense as a future-proof device, even though colour-wise it just doesn't match the Canons. I think the big C are on the verge of pushing the conservative upgrades too far for their own good...

The only odd positive side-effect is how long their kit holds value for, since they don't trump their own equipment every five minutes like Sony. But unfortunately they'll soon be lagging a long way behind competitor specs...

To be fair theres nothing un-cinematic about sharpness, sharpness is often mistakenly accused of giving a video look but the best vintage lenses are as sharp as any modern ones.

As a GH4 owner I'd put it's colors far above and A7s and just below Canon.  I think it's features and versatility and performance outweigh any concerns over colors.

Give any camera a little time and you'll be able to master it. IMO the GH4 is very versatile. I havent used my BM cam in months bc Ive been able to dial in a look that i love more on the GH4.

How beneficial is the Shogun for the GH4?

If I am planning to buy the Ninja Blade right now, and I have no 4K camera, but I know I will be buying a GH4 in six months from now, does it still make sense to get a Shogun instead of a Ninja Blade??
