basically u want to know quality of dye used in color filter of BMC....
i dont think that there is a way to know ...
maybe i someone would send his camera to lab so they can took sensor and test it ....
but if BMC use CIS 2051 (and i m sure that it is ) then its top quality ...
because that sensor is used in medical imaging and diagnostics and color quality for that applications is essential ...

where that fascination with color filter array come from ?
its probably classic Bayer pattern as in arri alexa , red epic or 99% other cmos cameras ...


just look at the image and if u like colors great if u dont buy another camera ....

why? because its not important ...when u make raw camera u use wide gamut dye (not that for rec 709) ...
and more bits camera have, color gamut is wider ...
so u basically ask do i get four wheels when i buy a car ... :)

ps:and when sony state that they going to use f65 camera color filter on f55 what they really say is that they decide to cripple f5 with wrong one ....

the camera is not for you ok.
it is a stills camera with video for an existing target market.
not someone that seems to be getting angry that leica are not giving you a baby alexa for 600 dollars.

i say it again i trust leica more as image lens and camera makers based on nearly 100 years of history and proven excellence.

It doesn't surprise me, but it's nice that they were open about it! Yes quite, they aren't a charity, they've created a product for a profit and it's entirely up to them the price they sell it for and how they cripple it in order to make money

The only thing that will stop them doing this is competition. Apple are a good comparison in that, in their field, when their big product came out the competition was scattered and riddled with compromises. They gained a monopoly.

Since then, Android devices have been buggy and all over the place in comparison, but are gradually pulling it together. Apple are separating themselves by producing a premium product and providing a consistent experience.

It seems Canon do the same: they may not offer the best of everything stats wise but [i][b]you know what you're getting[/b]. [/i]That's really important at some levels, when costing up jobs and all your cameramen are booked up. You say to someone you've never worked with before "can you use 5D or C300" and it's usually "yes". Say to them "can you use a GH2 or AF100" and they usually go "errrrrr". That could change with time though, pride and falls etc. But for now Canon are dominating that section of low to mid level production in my experience.

So for the true Indie, maybe Canon won't be the best choice as time goes on, but these two cameras aren't designed to profit from home film-makers, and most home film makers won't actually benefit from 4K at all. Nor RAW to be honest. Personally, right now I don't wish I had a better camera, I wish I knew more good actors :S But let's not start that debate up again!

I'm convinced we'll get a reasonably-priced 4K camera soon, though I'd settle for good sharp-looking 1080 with a good sense of depth! But either way, they can take their 8000 pound firmware update and stick it where the sun don't shine.

BMC with MTF ...

It's a lot more work. Many are used to cameras that "bake-in" a look or feel. The BMD will spit out a raw look and you rise or fall by how you treat it. Great power is great responsibility and all that. It's lots of layers of things on low percentages of opacity and mix that really make a nice look I find, things become more organic.

It's the interaction of various layers of user-controlled non-linearity that introduce a human feel to raw and high dynamic-range digital media.

no good in low ligh ? maybe not in12800 iso as c300 ... but if u spend 20000$ for lens feed them with light ...
this camera is close to arri alexa and epic in image quality ... and many people wont believe and i expect lame reasons why as "its a 3000$ cam" ...

So the BMC is a 5D mark III with 2,3x tele convertor stuck on it. Hurrey for wildlife filming!
And to get the same FOV you just have to walk 2,3x the distance to the subject backwards. And at that distance you need to bring a very fast lens to get shallow DOF. Or you are just back to the good old small chip videocameras with everything sharp. Oh and bring 2,3x longer audiocables or bring a stronger directional mic. I hope this all fits an indoor shoot. But hey you get precious RAW back.

Not in terms of motion quality. I can always spot the crappy look of Long-GOP encoding. Temporal compression on captured footage will always look cheap. And then 8-bit color-space? Don't even start on that... 8-bit can look good... but never "great". And it's not even worth talking about in the same breath as 12-bit color space.
