Sharpness, detail and moire are just a few of many image quality metrics.
If you compare S1 and A7 III, the 4K quality is identical. But S1 offers better DR, colour and way more framerate and codec options.
The nikon Z6 does too

Yeah dpreview charts are one thing and real world results are another. For example on paper my g7’s DR is okay but in real life it really seems pretty good to me.
The s1 v-log footage looks amazing, way better than a7iii or Nikon z6. No oversharpening, crazy DR and canon-level skin tones. It almost looks like an Alexa, and the image in my opinion is even better looking at the BMPCC4k.
Most of the cameras nowadays shoots good images in real world ,in fact ,that chart is a real thing in the real world too,it is not CG
This is the best reference I can find so far
No other way I can think of to compare such many camera with the same conditions at the momment
Whether S1 or S1R worth the price when compare to the others, that is the question here~
I am not go for the S1 or S1R after seeing these results
The X-T3 looks invincible now
Does Panasonic know the video quality of the S1&S1R is bad,so that they planing to make S1H?

Color science

On 11/6/2018 at 6:39 PM, zerocool22 said:Yeah I saw a camera comparison yesterday between canon r, a7iii, pocket 4K, nikon z7 and XT3. The colors from Canon R, XT3 and pocket4K stood out a whole lot better. And then on youtube I was seeing all these replies sony A7III is the clear winner. Maybe my eyes are different, or maybe its like the saying, "In the land of the blind, one-eye is king".
In fact, none of those online tests or website tests I seen proved they are using the best colour settings for their cameras, just defult settings for comparisons is stupid
Who will always using defult settings ?
If one camera on defult settings provide bad results, then claim it has bad colour science
That is unfair and not scientific
If I am using sony with EOS pro colour setting VS defult settings on a canon camera, and their image looks totally the same ,can I claim they both have the same colour science?
What about cine colours on GH5,film simulations on fuji cameras?
There are many potential possibilities for just one camera, and I think the way we judge the colours on cameras, mostly too subjective and not in a fair way
I can also do a blind test on this topic
Can you identify which pic is the canon?

Hi @gelaxstudio
You can simply do that through an HDMI output screen monitor. You can also use the Panasonic image app in the app store/play store, to see in live (use your phone/tablet) as a monitor.
Unfortunately, there are no others ways. You can do server delivery, so each time you make a video or take a picture, it is directly sent to a server which will be stocked in your computer.
Hope this helped.
Thank you so much

Exactly, but why does it seem so brand dependent?

Well done,Tony
Colour science will soon be a out dated topic ,lol

Does someone know how to create a web live workflow by using GH4 or GH5?

Sometimes it is the stuff of a Canon PR plant.
Sometimes it is rabidly anti-Canon.
Sometimes I wonder if the internet is populated at least 50% by faulty bots.
man,why dislike canon is a thing?I can dislike any brand I what
Why do you care someone anti-canon or not?Did I hurt your feeling?
I am a panasonic and sony user now,I was using canon cameras 7 years ago ,5D2 and 500D was my main camera, I was shooting wedding and ads back that time, but damn I dislike canon so much when they keep making overpriced crippled cameras after A7S came out
If canon throw something better than sony at the same price,I will definitely shut my mouth
Before that,I will keep making criticisms to this brand that disrespect its users
Let the brand making better product to justify itself, not some fanboy BS

Actually i dont remember if there was major problems with GH3/GH4. Maybe they were perfect? ?
How about poor AF and high ISO noises?

Basically shows the Eos R as soft with the default sharpening at 0 but looking better and matching the x-t3 at 4 and above
Not only some youtubers misunderstand sharpness as resolution, but they are trying to prove the crop 4K is as good as the supersampling or the non-crop ones,Canon must be so happy seeing they making excuses to justify their crippled products
Hell yeah, as you guys wish ,Canon will keep that crop 4K forever, lol
-
Just stop making excuses for canon not to involve or even try harder
what if the EOS-R II comes out tomorrow ,and still do 4K with a crop
Canon just tell everyone that some pro users did some tests and proved the IQ as good as the supersampling one, forget the fXXking supersampling , you don't need it!

even the sharpened Eos R file is missing some detail in comparison. The small branches on the right are easily distinguishable in the Fuji image, but neither in Canons unsharpened nor oversharpened image.
But I agree with the generell idea, that sharpness nowadays is way overrated and there are many things that are more important.
At the same time I don't get, why anyone should praise the Canon for things that it's not. This is the reason why canon gets away with a lot of awful decisionsIf a sharpened 1:1 pixel readout image can as detail as the super-sampling image, why any brand even bother to make super-sampling 4K?
Even line-skipping will be enough for all camera, including cinema camera
That's ridiculous
Sharpness ≠ detail is already been proved in max's video,Z7 is a in-camera sharpened image without any extra detail

Default sharpness varies a lot between cameras. Even minimum sharpening level does. Maybe set them all at minimum then level them out in post with unsharp mask or even small blur for the horrible oversharpened ones.
EOS R is not line skipping. It’s 1:1
Actually I mean the 1080P and 720P is line-skipping,but the 4K on EOS R ,it really very soft and lack of details when compare with other 1:1 pixel readout 4K cameras
I think the soft image is caused by the smaller size pixel.
The bigger the crop is,the smaller size pixel it gets, like the D5,which is also very soft, but still a little bit better than canon.
The full sensor 1:1 readout looks really great, well balance between resolution and rolling-shutter performance,IMO

@Robert Collins even better: it does object tracking in continuous, so you can select the eye (given you are close enough) and it'll track it. YMMV, but it's pretty dope feature.
the image in focus looks like out of focus ,because it is still line-skipping
6 hours ago, Andrew Reid said:I am sorry i did not mean to critique your brofriend
The problem I have is that it's incomplete. There's no telling what sharpness was dialled into each picture profile. That makes a ton of difference.
There's no telling what the hell he did to the zoomed shots.
The EOS R just does not look like that at 100% crop. He's turned into absolute mush when you view this full screen (click it to enlarge)...
What codec settings? He doesn't say.
Was it IPB or ALL-I?
What bit-rate?
Did he shoot RAW or ProRes on the Pocket?
Did he compare the sharpness in the LOG profiles as well? Nope. That's how most filmmakers will use these cameras... In LOG! (Or at least Flat on the Nikon)
Nothing personal but I just didn't rate it.
And on top of all that, it's just pixel peeping. Overall results and cinematic quality matter more than resolution.
I think max is using the right settings,if using log, some camera will lose resolution(like the A7III)
Sampling is what real matter, seriously, the C100 and the old GH2 only 24M bit-rate,but producing mush better image than any canon DSLR
Resolution is not sharpness, just been proved by the z7 in this video, the in-camera sharpping does not show more usable details
The fact is canon still using line-skipping for the eos r,which is a waste of the sensor and the lens,if GH series is using line-skipping,I think no one will buy it and say it is cinematic
-
Max Yurye had upload a side by side IQ comparison video of X-T3 vs A7III vs EOS R vs Z7 vs Pocket 4K ,and the 4K on eos r looks like 1080p upscaled, and the 1080p looks like 720p upscaled, any brand which still using line-skipping 1080P,now just canon ,like what they did 10 years ago
And I know some people can still call it cinematic looks

The ideal vlogging camera just happened to be a vlogger‘s first kill~

A chinese website just posted their NIKON Z7&Z6 camera review ,including IQ 、lowlight AF、 Face detect AF、 120p Video、high ISO ect.
Z7 working very well in video AF and the IQ is great, after I saw the face tracking AF in video mode,I think it performs as well as canon
https://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=248&t=5567307#2263207_1536522246
I translated the ending parts
Pros
Z7 has the same IQ as D850 in a smaller bodyTilting touch LCD
Face tracking AF works very well
5 stops IBIS
The FTZ Mount Adapter works well
The ergonomics is responsive, with multiple usable Fn buttonsNo crop in FF 4K and 10bit 422 output
The N-log actually provides 13 stops of DR
Battery life is actually last 3x more than the Nikon stated(330 shoots)
Cons
No enough buffer in continue shooting, only 20 fpsAF fails when focus on low contrast objects
No Eye AF
A doughty beginner in this FF mirrorless hunger game

What’s confirmed:
1) Sony pro camcorder launch on September 14
2) Sony E-mount lens launch around September 18,maybe A7000 ?
3) Sony press conference on September 25,same day Panasonic announce their FF camera
4) One more Sony event in October,maybe A7SIII? -
World’s fastest autofocus ,but no AF-C in continuous high drive, haha

10BIT in 120P fhd!
With eye AF in video mode
canon is nowhere near it

Today , every other brand kill canon, even fuji do far better video than some Canon C series Cameras
Soon panasonic will join the FF war and give us a great FF camera with tones of nice 4K video Features
Just forget Canon , jumpship to other brand that offer what you need, even Canon is dead now, nobody will feel that is a pity!
Stop wasting your time ,guys

Once again and again, canon users has to rely on ML hack

@no_connection Most hollywood productions are locked tripod shots with a S35 crop. I think 10-bit 4:2:2 Log will be very useful in a handful of "static" situations.
Then why not buy a fuji X-T3 with 4K 60P , 10bit F-log output,and with film simulations?

The lens are too pricy
The 4K IQ of S1 & S1R is unbelievely bad

Why this has to be personal, did I offend you somehow?
I did not judge your personality
If this is not moire ,what else it can be?
You can disagree with me,or make your own review to prove Dpreview done a wrong test .
And I am not making fake news here, all I did is posted some screenshots of Dpreview‘s website and share some of my thoughts baseed on what I saw
If this is something bullshit or something misleading, try tell that to the Dpreview ,not me
Right,if I done something wrong ,I will apologize and stop posting wrong materials
