    It does exist

  3. Hi All.

I have a Sony A7S coming in tomorrow and am looking at a good wide lens for my re-housed Van Diemen Iscorama. The Iscorama is a early 36 (slight smaller rear end) pentax mount but re-housed by Van Diemen. I tried the Nikon 50mm F1.8 as a taking lens on my Canon 5DMKIII but this one has a lot of vignetting.

Now the front glas of the Nikon lens lies pretty deep (see picture) in its own housing so the distance between the rear end of the Isco and the front element of the Nikon 50 mm lens looks pretty far housing of its own housing. (I think its more than one centimeter) This might be the cause of the vignetting. Now i know that 50mm should do the trick but my question is will it work on the Nikon 50mm E series pancake version? This lens has no deep housing on the front element (like on te picture)so this might work.

Can anyone do a short test before i buy one. I know the 50mm E serie is cheap but i have plenty of 50mm lying around here collecting dust already ;-)

    Thanks guys!

  4. Hey Wilco,

Here's a test I shot with the GH4 + SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x. The process is very simple on FCPX. I just use thescale / distort setting and set the vertical to 75%. That might not be the accurate percentage that is necessary
but that's what looked good to me. Although 77-78% works as well. Hope that helps.

    Thanks! Great video BTW!

  5. Hi

I just received my GH4 and i like it. I am a Adobe PP CC editor who is looking at FCPX to experiment.

Now i was wondering if anybody has some experience with 1.33x (SLR Magic) and 1.5x anamorphic (Iscorama) footage (4K & UHD) footage in FCPX. Do i just use the distort option in FCPX? Or are there other/better solutions? Looking for the highest resolution possible.

So if there are some experienced FCPX Anamorphic users willing to share their settings... it would be much appreciated!

    Thank you in advanced

  6. I have a cheap clone for my FD lenses and GH3. I just came home from a shot and used it the whole time with my Iscorama (no mods here).

With the 35mm Canon FDn there is very slight vignetting but still ok for me. And looks good for video but not perfect for stills.

Anyway I don't need razor sharp images so I am fine with the cheap clone.

That what i thought. 0.7 x wide from 35mm is just below 25mm. 25mm on the M43 GH3/4 is the magic number for vignetting if have heard. Can you post a screenshot from you anamorphic footage with the clone and the 35mm? Thanks!!

  7. I just got one of the cheap clones (RJ M42-M4/3) so i could use my Russain lenses with my Iscorama 54 & get wider on the BM Pocket - no problems whatsoever. So if you want a cheaper option for FD lenses then (to try out etc...), then this would be the way to go - the cheap clones aren't perfect wide open (could be the lenses too), but stopped down a little everything is sharp across the whole frame.

This was an experiment for me too & i'm so impressed I might just go the whole hog - buy more Nikon lenses & get the Speedbooster for the Pocket camera (when i get the cash together).

Thanks for the reply Bioskop! Will have a look at the clones ;-)

  8. I have a Van Diemen rebuild Iscorama and am looking at the Metabones FD to M43 speedbooster. I would like to match it with my old Canon FD lenses, 28mm, 35mm and the 50mm.

Does anybody has experience wit the combination speedbooster and Iscorama combi? On paper the combi GH4, Speedbooster FD-M43, Canon 35mm and Van Diemen Iscorama sound nice but will it work? $399 for the Speedbooster is a lot of money for a experiment ;-) So if somebody already tried some sort of combination please share. Thanks!

  9. When are you doing the full review Andrew? I am shooting a full documentary in Alaska next month and need a good drone/back-up camera.

Need to carry a lot of gear and space is limited. In now have the FS700 and the Canon 5DMKIII with me. I am looking for the GH3 but the Olympus sound good to.... Mmmm which one should i choose ;-) Any advice?

  10. Well, this weekend Samys had the GH3 for only $700 US and I decided the RX10 was a better deal for my needs. I have a big rig setup with C100 and want a small stealth portable that will match the C100s resolution from entire 4K sensor readout, and the RX10 does that.

BTW I have MFT lenses so total cost was not the issue, total usability was.

Thanks for the reply! I looking for the ultimate camera for my MultiCopter for my www.frozenendurance.com project. I use the 5DMKIII now but its heavy and because of that it reduces fly-time. So the RX10 might be a nice compact solution.
