I have long since given up on camera forum arguments so might not be completely up on who is right and who is wrong-evil / killed-a-kitten, but can we tone it down a bit. It's JB! We could be learning so much and having such interesting cameras talks with a film industry guy and I am sure one of the only people with a Blackmagic Pocket 2 prototype yet instead a handful of you are just bitching. It's pointless. Even if you disagree with him on certain matters, hold your tongue a bit for the benefit of the rest of us who are interested in what he has to tell.

I agree.  I don’t personally care for Von Trier’s films, but that’s about as irrelevant as it should be.  There is too much influence portrayed as a universal acceptance in cinema simply because of the bandwagon.  I saw Black Panther because I felt like I was the only person in the world who wasn’t hash tagging how amazing it was....  Bullshit.  I felt like I was “supposed” to like it because if I didn’t, that was racist.  I just didn’t.  The fact that it’s a problem these days if you don’t, and not prioritizing the acceptable cool kids club agenda - is more offensive to me than anything Lars will ever do and I guarantee only about 10% of the 100 critics who decided to walk out of the movie were just not interested.  The rest probably left because if they didn’t, what does that say about “them”.  Get a damn load of Gasper Noe..  lol

It’s been over a month now since the release of ProRes Raw and I’m seeing people like Caleb Pike and others doing tests with ProRes Raw and it’s gotten me really really excited. The usability of it seems to be unreal. It got me thinking... the two best options in my opinion for price and performance would be the C500 and FS700. Is it worth picking one of these cameras up used to try ProRes raw on? I’m sure BMPCC 4K will get an update that it’ll shoot ProRes raw eventually, but the C500 has never been cheaper and more appealing to me. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with either camera?
Here is a video from Caleb about his journey to ProRes raw. I can’t believe how well it holds up and I’ve been waiting for something like this ever since 2010 when I tried RED raw for the first time.

I thought they’d already discontinued the pocket ?  Watch that become a cult camera if it isn’t already.
I think they’ll keep the micro going for some time.  It’s really a different camera.
In the photo above the camera has a wooden camera cage, a Noga arm and a BMD 5” VA as the operating monitor. On front is the SLR Magic 10mm T2.1.  I’m manually focussing myself, using peaking on the VA.

I have used a LOT of Ursa Mini Pro and Micro in the resident.  Not just as an insert camera, but shooting whole scenes using only the Ursa Mini Pro.  Most scenes have a mix of Ursa Mini Pro and ALexa, and I’d estimate more than 40% of the show is Ursa Mini.
I tend to use the micro camera for these kinds of surgery shots where I can very easily reach into the scene and get super close before diving down to almost inside the surgical field, and then transitioning back to another actor. It keeps it very agile and alive shooting this way.  I’d anticipate the Pocket 2 will replace this rig for these kinds of shots.

Speaking of the 5D2. This company Lucid did a lot of really nice work with that camera. It is crazy what that camera can do with such small files. I know the DP got into using filters to raise the black level to eliminate noise.
I think the 5D2 was sharper, but also had problems aliasing and moire. I don't know much about the color either, but I still think the images are so beautiful.

I think the competition is the determining factor not on features, but release.  Gotta hurry up and make some shit to stay in the game.  Canon doesn’t seem to care when Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, Olympus, etc come out with something..  Let Nikon release a shoulder strap though...  lol. I guess if we’re going to be 8-bit in 2018 (?).  Fuji’s straight-off-the-card image is one of the best imo.  Beautiful color science.

I kind of hate that social media has given literally everyone a voice when I see Logan Paul as an example.  -Since feeling special and accepted is an ingrained part of every human being's natural make-up, social media, Youtube, etc.. - keeps us buried in our phones, constantly seeking value in "likes" and whatever trivial bullshit virtual currency there is.  It's a breeding ground for ill-advised priorities and narcissism.   Even if it’s just subscribing, you’re piggy backing a sense of community for the almighty motive - attention.  Everything is literally based on attention.  It drives the motive of most media "outrage" these days with a voice that says "Judge this motherf---er.  It's trendy."   or some idiot's default response to go full LiveLeak on a dead body.

I don't believe in censorship, but I do believe in content standards. Paul should be shunned, if nothing else, for being a talentless hack. And people should be shunned for watching garbage that people like him put out. I feel bad for the professional-media industry in general these days. I mean, this guy has made well-over 10 million jumping around like a asshat and talking about nonsense. There are girls that are multi-millionaires from fucking make-up tutorials. Who the hell is going to want to actually write and film real stories in the future?
