  1. Well see here's the thing.

I'm aware that the fs700 would get a 4k upgrade. The issue isn't with the 4k Screenspro. Most of the free world is still operating at 1080p... My problem, is watching the price drop a thousand dollars 6 days after i purchase a $7500 system, and watch the rest of the industry pummel its ass for less than that in the same week. All the while being tossed a focus upgrade for the fall...

Forgive me if I don't feel like cowboying up fella.

had the same problem with B&H when I got the AG-HPX170 and then a week later they dropped it a grand. I told them to honor the change or I else I would ship it back within the return period. They credited me back the difference. It's up to the retailer I guess.
  2. what Digital Bolex creators have said:

The Mini camera is interesting, I will admit I might buy one just to have as a point and shoot instead of the point and shoot I have, but I'm not going to shoot a movie on it. And if you look at it as a point and shoot that has the possibility of future raw, but currently doesn't offer it, $995 is actually pretty expensive.

vegetableman, I'm not sure there are any nails being thrown around this NAB, we talked to a lot of people at our booth today that were still really excited about the D16. I think as long as we get these things working really soon and can deliver soon too we will be OK.

so which company atm deserves to be at the forefront for digital S16 fun?

  3. It's different things, even if 4k TVs hadn't been invented yet, there's clear advantages to shooting in 4k resolution.

but we're not all hypothesizing here unless we choose to not acknowledge the playback/broadcast devices for future 1st world protocol. We're talking about relevant circumstances. i was in favor for 4k tv because eventually we'll be heading for that native eased Codec workflow anyway. im just saying its all important and relevant, all aside from 4K 2k cinema or NLE cropping/zooming
  4. If you mean the other thread, that was about 4K for consumers, not capture.

it's all obviously related.  As I've stated before and remembering HDTV sales and Plasmas, it took about a year for massive exaggerated price drops that you felt bad for the first buyers investing in the sets.  A year from now 4K sets will start to be at Best Buy's in popularity for NFL or NBA frenzy, easily.

  5. Problem now = do I sell my V1 and order the newly announced Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera which is priced within range of prosumer/hobbiest?  ie. me.

Excuse me replying to my own post, but I'm sure I can live with the ProRes 4:2:2 output from this camera recorded to SD cards, but I will miss being able to play with the almost 4K footage with the abilty to crop!   But then again, I will get long clip times, and the 25fps frame rate that makes so much more sense for me in the UK.

yes you should find a way to redeem yourself because you were suckered into purchasing a 1 sec gimmick that has nothing to do with industry 4K capture.   :P

  6. Depending on how long your trip is and shot ratio per day I think a 1TB will be more than enough.  You can custom protect WD's just like the rugged Lacie.  Seeing as to where you're going I'd get two 2TB WD's and then return them within the store's policy!  Ghetto style  :P

  7. It appears to be so effective it allows you to pull of a tracking shot without a track, a pan / tilt without a tripod and a dolly shot without a dolly!

easy there tiger!  just look at the techniques from the video.  it's basically a newer alternative compact steadicam ala with improved mechanism influenced by gyro lift tech.  traditional filmming methods are protocol and standard.  if a director is visualizing a scene and wants a dolly the request is already justified.  it's not like a cable wrangler is going to yell out and say ''hey guys why don't you just use the steadicam with that 135mm for all angles...you're guaranteed to get absolutely solid horizontal track motion and the operator will never get tired because no tracks are required...''  then the gaffer yells ''shut up kid this isn't the movies''  :P
