    Game on.
Wasn't expecting Crane to have such a big booth. Must be some new gimbals.

I have also arrived and will be available for ongoing hot dog updates as long as I get on the right train to the show.
Otherwise you can expect updates about Cologne cathedral.
And hot dogs within it's immediate vicinity.

Of course Blackmagic are profitable but at the same time, compared to what the rest of the industry are doing, they are 'pretty much' giving away their products.
    Pocket4k with Resolve = US$1299
    Adobe Premiere/After Effects/Audition subscription for 2 years = USD$1248
So after 2 years....yes, BMD have given you a free camera. ?

You could qualify the face, add a tiny bit of blur and then add some grain to the whole picture - that's most succesful in my limited experience. You could of course just add a fraction of blur to the whole image and then you wouldn't have to add the masking step, but 1) qualifying (maybe add a large mask) a face is super easy and quick, and 2) without a qualifier it will probably look less subtle because it affects the whole image.
EDIT: If other people have tips and tricks for making footage less sharp and more 'creamy' I'd love to know it, always looking for that with non-Ursa footage.

That lowlight footage still has way too much midtone detail for my taste (look at her pores), but that's something that's adjustable in post with this much data. It's just a shame they haven't managed to get it like that 'out of camera'. Still a great deal though.

You're probably right about him not receiving a pre-order, but the guy does have a few feature films in Hong Kong, maybe that was his ticket?  Either way, he's got camera, and we dont make those decisions... ?‍♂️ Your post make it seem like you'd be happy if no one get's the camera because you didn't.
Anyway, It's your site, I'll leave you to it. No more responses from me on the matter.

But are we not considering that maybe it's possible the camera was his pre-order, or the fact that he was director, actor, and producer for a few films in Hong Kong?
I hoped you were past all that since you decided to go with the X-T3, guess not ?

Even if they'd used an EVA1/FS5/C200 then odds are high the final rig would still look almost very similar overall.

I reckon if that was posted now in 2018 then we'd still be seeing people rip mercilessly into it!

Yup. I’m still keeping the P4K as a possible option for me in the next 6 months or so. But I have no interest in being an early adopter. And I’m unsure if I am going to get one at all. As I’ve said, the 1080p Raw crop is really bugging me. So for me, I need to know how the footage looks when more units are in the wild, what growing pains the early units have, if B-Raw is going to be implemented, and finally ML’s progress with the 5D4. Needless to say, I don’t need a new camera right now and I am a few projects away (6 months to a year) before I would use the camera for a film. So hopefully all of my questions will be answered by then.

Kieran reacted to kye in The best new camera to purchase in 2018!
Are you in the market for a new camera and confused or overwhelmed by the choices available and can't decide which features you need and which you can live without?
Or, are you looking for a camera that gives 4k60 10-bit with IBIS, flippy screen, and internal NDs that fits into your budget and into your pocket?
    Are you thinking about 8K?
If this is you then look no further!
The best new camera purchase in 2018 is... Don't!
With Don't you get to keep your existing camera, but that's not all, it comes with features no other new camera can offer!
    It is completely free!
    It has already shipped!
It comes with no learning curve, no menus from another planet, and no colour science that looks like it's from another planet!
    But wait! There's more!
It even comes with more than three lenses!
    ....
    *ahem*
    But seriously folks...
If you aren't sure which one to buy then I'd say to wait until you understand what your requirements are (especially which features you can live without) and have seen the reviews of the cameras on offer so that you don't get any nasty surprises.
We're all familiar with the manufacturers vague and deliberately misleading claims, like when Canon said the M50 had 4K and DPAF which is technically correct but they didn't mention they're not both available at the same time. This is just an example and all the manufacturers do this.
This is the reason for full and impartial reviews.
Personally, I'm waiting, and if nothing absolutely hits the bullseye for me then I'll wait a generation or two until something does.

Andrew, you do often come across as someone who is resentful, intolerant, often spiteful, takes offence easily and with a grudge against the world.
I think if you were a nicer person, you know, showed kindness, tolerance, humility (unfashionable traits as they are these days), then you might get invited to more events.

The gigantic difference between Blackmagic manuals and other brands is that the BM manuals actually explain what's happening. They don't just state that the sensor will be windowed at higher frame rates, they explain it's because it reads out one-to-one pixels when it windows. I love that.

you could also just film 1080 in camera with no crop. It only crops the sensor at 120p. Up to 60p it will be the whole sensor.

To be honest, their supposed PR "missteps" isn't even a legitimate concern for me. I don't get the complaints. The camera that should clearly cost at least 5,000. And they charge 300 for a software with lifetime upgrade that competitors are milking for several times more, or ridiculous monthly subscription. The camera's coming out in less than a month!
It's feels odd to me to say this about a camera company, but I've become a big fan and evangelical of Blackmagic and their ethos. Picking a fight with Blackmagic over PR "missteps" is like castigating one of the small handful in the room who gives a shit about democratizing cinema tools for filmmakers, all because they didn't say hi to everyone in the room.

You must not have read the first half of my post where I pointed out the fact WE HAVE ARRIVED at Shangri La (on paper at least).  The post was expressing my general opinion which is multidimensional about the subject of recent events.  You seem to dig maniacally to uncover points of disagreement and blow them up as if my original post was somehow personally directed at you, which is strange.  I wasn't attacking BM or Reid, just giving a personal opinion for crying out loud.  Can you coexist with other people's viewpoints?

    Come on.....seriously?
$1300 for a camera with the specs of the Pocket4K AND a full license of Davinci Resolve? How exactly is that not being bold!

BMD have literally given everyone what they have been complaining about for years.....RAW, 4K60p, 10bit, great colour science, good dynamic range.....and at an amazing price so we now complain about the way they are marketing/releasing the camera?
It's official, camera companies will NEVER win.

I'm just letting you know how you often come across and how that can get in the way of what you want. No malice intended on my part.

I mean at this point you're just outright misrepresenting what Areia shot. Yes, he did shoot a video walking around a zoo. He also shot what I consider to be a well-shot, edited and graded video: ...

... as well as one comparing the Micro to the Pocket 4k, which is yet to come out (but he released the Pocket 4k footage already). I know you have seen these videos, mr. Reid, because you have commented on them on your own forums. Why are you downplaying the stuff he made? I mean the answer is obvious: it's because you weren't the one who got to make it. I really don't want to seem hostile to you on your own forums (which, don't get me wrong, I think is awesome for you to facilitate), but it's stuff like this that makes you come across as petty and vindictive, because by putting these little spins on the story you appear to be actively looking for reasons to feel slighted.
