  1. I let the image clear on its own and wait till the camera has written all frames to the card. My experience with shooting immediately after is that the camera will shoot less than 30 frames. Sometimes, that can even happen after observing the wait period. If you want to go safe, give the camera 1:30-2 minutes between each burst shot.
  2. Yes, it does, so that's another limitation of the camera. At least with the V1, it is impossible to control shutter speed so that it stays around 1/60 for 30fps and 1/120 for 60fps.
  3. That will likely only work with Nikon AF lenses. (If it should also work with Ai/Ai-s lenses - which is unlikely -, then this could be a hack around the burst mode's limitation.)

  5. Hello - the RAW burst capabilities of the V1 and its use for filmmaking have been known for quite some time (at least to me :). BUT: There is a big caveat because this mode ("Electronic Shutter Hi") only works with fully automatic exposure and no control over aperture and shutter speed. And: it only works with Nikon system 1 lenses (maybe also with modern Nikon SLR AF lenses using the official Nikon lens adapter), NOT with adapted mechanical lenses, whether c-mount or otherwise. Believe me, I have tested it. Please correct the respective statements in your article. (And yes, for experimental filmmakers, the V1 is a dark horse - the first serious alternative to a 16mm Bolex and handprocessed film).
  6. The Nikon V1 is more capable in this respect since it can shoot 30fps RAW in burst mode (limited to about 34 frames). This makes it arguably the most affordable raw digital cinema camera - with the severe restrictions of recording length, no sound, and no manual shutter/aperture/ISO control in electronic shutter burst mode. Here's a test video of mine, with the following workflow: - shot as RAW images in burst mode - images converted to 2k 16bit-per-color channel TIFFs with a raw converter - TIFFs written into a 24fps Quicktime file without recoding (using ffmpeg) - Quicktime with TIFF codec converted into Quicktime with ProRes codec. The sequence is unedited and has no color/exposure correction.   9. 1 - 5D MkII: soft image, very shallow depth of field, strong aliasing/moiré on the silver surface 2 - GH2: very sharp foreground, still shallow depth of field, cool white balance 3 - Sony A65: similar characteristics to Canon, aliasing/moiré on knob, soft image 4 - Sony HX9V: very sharp  (camera is known for its good video), a bit oversharpened (typical for a consumer compact), large depth of field (because of the small sensor) 5 - Nikon J1: We don't know much about the video performance of the Nikon system cameras, so this is a deduction from the above. If it's really the Nikon, then Nikon has shown once again its lack of video know-how.
