Francisco Rios reacted to Andrew Reid in My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
I am mega looking forward to how this turns out.
Also there are some fast optics for medium format at F2, bucking the usual trend for F2.8 and F4, which should look amazing on full frame.
But it isn't all about shallow DOF - lots of other benefits with the way the focus rolls off and how much depth you get to play with in your composition, the three dimensionality of it.
The image circle you get from this adapter is enormous... larger than the Sony 50MP sensor in the Fuji GFX, Hasselblad X1D and Pentax 645Z.
    My take - http://www.eoshd.com/2017/02/sony-a7r-ii-a7s-ii-go-medium-format/

Though question since I don't agree with your assessment of the advantages of Medium Format.
I still shoot film, both medium format and full frame (small picture). And I definitely don't use medium format to get faster films.
If anything I use the opposite. Thats why I kickstarter backed the modified Kodak Vison 50D from Cinestill.
A 56mm is till going to be a 56mm and nothing else. And if one likes the look of a 100mm one needs to use a 100mm.
The DOF is identical on all formats but on the medium format you get more in the frame.

A good example is when I use a 17mm on APS-C. Its great for street photography with the deep DOF of a 17mm (on any format).
But I can fill the frame with a person without going as close as I would have had to do with FF. More like the distance of a 35mm on FF.
The problem is if I try to shoot a closeup of someone, then I dont get a look of a 35mm at all.
The person is all distorted with a huge head.
This is why medium and large format is nice and can't be simulated with equivalent lenses.
But I will test all this and this discussion is a never ending story so lets leave it for now.

If one only care about SDOF and firmly believe that a focal length can be changed with different sensor sizes. Then he/she can just settle with a 1" sensor like the RX100. Because with the "equivalent" theory thats just as good as FF, MF or large format. No difference at all.
But if one can see a difference between for example m4/3 and FF. Then he/she will see the same advantages and disadvantages between FF and MF.
And of course MF and LF.

Since the issue of black levels in LOG mode on the Leica SL was raised on EOSHD, Leica have reached out to me. Here I can reveal Leica are working hard on video related refinements.
Last week in Berlin, product manager Steffen invited me to see the new firmware in action.

Interesting that you are favouring an MFT camera for stills.
I recently sold my D810 and bought a GX8 for 50/50 stills and video. I was concerned about the sensor size, but for the commercial documentary style stills I take, its fine.
The key is the stabilisation. My keeper rate has gone up and having such a small camera with a brilliant lens like the 12-35 is a joy.
The video from the GX8 is excellent too!

It's unfortunate not to see any mention of Final Cut Pro X in this article.
The release of the new design troubled many Final Cut Pro 7 users, but the majority who were annoyed at the drastic changes seem not to have experienced what it is like today.
You should definitely try FCPX as it's grown into an incredible program that is very intuitive, easy and fast to use, has top notch pulgin support and most of all - makes editing fun and leaves more time to be more creative.
I've also heard several editors mention that the quality of the exported files from FCPX are much better than those from Premiere. I know that Noam Kroll did a blog post about it.
I recommend that you get into FCPX Andrew, as it sounds like you are not satisfied with Premiere. The bad press it got on release is irrelevant now. It is absolutely fantastic now. More editors need to wake up!!

    Hi Andrew, Richard,
Thank you for your kind words,
Rectilux 3FF pricing can be found at the website and also in the download brochure.
Rectilux 3FF ordering information is also available for download at the website using a procedure which should be familiar to you. Ordering is already in place with several orders confirmed for Kowa BH/16H/8Z and ES Cinelux and others.
There is also a white paper explaining how these focus units work and also some guidance on what benefits should be considered before making a purchase.
Recently, I needed to explain the name and rather than drag your readers away from this forum, I can reproduce my reply here.
    Rectilux comes from the Latin:
    Recti = straight
    Lux = light,
in other words Rectilux means the light passes straight through, no effect on footage. Rectilux has neutral optical transfer function (see wiki - optical transfer function) which is a tech way of saying no effect on footage.
The following are test shots purposefully taken to show the exceptional performance of the focusing optics by mimicking a 4K to 1080p workflow from 16mp stills and are best viewed full size on a 1080p monitor.

See this shot below taken at F1.8/50mm 1/50s, (check EXIF) the left part tells you nothing about the focusing optics because it is all bokeh blur, however the right part tells you everything - it is very detailed and no CA, over by the bookshelves which are about 20m away

below I have a stealth shot of a Rembrandt at the art gallery, worth a few million, when the security guards were not looking, Rectilux is light & small, goes unnoticed. Shot up close, handheld, less than 1 metre at a slight angle F1.8/50mm 1/50s, (check EXIF) see the corner performance, the detail in the bubble at 1:1 pixels

and slow pulls in this clip comparing mumps with a v-lite
    @https://vimeo.com/105439595

All my tests are concentrated on the focus unit you are buying,  not on the anamorphic which you already own.
Rectilux system is expanding, I will be adding Bolex 8 & 16  1.5x quick change support soon and more later.
All Rectilux are single wavelength coated optics with a non-coated option by special request.
Rectilux complies with the standard legal 14 day money back after delivery regulation.

Ten scopes are supported from the get go and more are planned.
It literally takes less than one minute to swap out anamorphic lenses.
Each Rectilux 3FF will include all coupling rings and clamps for your chosen base anamorphic engine, with extra ones for different scopes available seperately.

Not sure who'll care about this one, but I just noticed that "IDA" is now free for viewers that have Amazon Prime.

IMHO, just about every shot is perfect.  For me, the film was cinematography on a whole 'nother level.

And whattaya know?  There isn't any anamorphic, color grading, stabilization, etc.

So many of the things that aspirational shooters like myself tend to worry about just aren't part of the visual narrative in this film.  Yet, for me, it works.

So, you know, kind of informative about what can really matter when telling a motion picture story.

    Damn...that is not cool.

I once shipped a lens as regular airmail overseas and did not declare full value at request of buyer (to avoid high import tax).
Turned out to be bad idea that I will never do again. The tracking number I had was only valid was up to when it left my country (UK) and nothing more...not even if it simply reached it's destination (Chile). Both me and the buyer were panicking but after 2 Months or so - the package finally arrived.

So it may simply take a long time to arrive...I think 'regular airmail' these days also can mean 'short plane journey to a very slow boat'

    Good luck

just as a point of note on lenses for films :
David Fincher shoots most of the time with the same lens focal lengths even when he changes his DOP
so even if it is Jeff Cronenwerth, Harris Savides or Darius Khondji on camera for him he is still using a 27mm 40mm most of the time and a 75mm for the close ups , at f2.8 with nds and at f2 at night , thats about it , most of the film is shot on those 3 lenses thats all he needs
(page 162 of the book 'New Cinematographers' gives you a look at Harris Savides note book for the film 'The Game' he lists scene by scene what lens he uses and its f stop ....its mainly all 27mm 40mm 75mm at f2.8 or f2....

The late great Gordon Willis shot 90% of The Godfather series for Francis Ford Copolla on a 40mm f2.8 lens - if you get this months American Cinematographer magazine OCT 2014 its a special edition all on Gordon Willis - The Prince of Darkness and it reveals all on how he shot these great films .

Then you have Paul Greengrass who uses long zooms all the time and the late Tony Scott who shot almost always on long lenses and used x2 extenders too, thats his 'look '

And then the great Sergio Leone shot all those Clint Eastwood 'Dollar' series films on a single Angenieux 25-250mm f3.5 zoom

So my point is you dont always need very wide lens to make great films .....

as long as you have in Super 35 field of view a 28mm. 40mm and 70mm which the Nikon zoom gives you ,you can make a film.....what camera you use to get those lengths is upto you , you may need speedboosters or adapters but those are the numbers that work for me most of the time.

Francisco Rios reacted in 1.9.7 Firmware Update adds In-Camera Formatting to BMCC & BMPCC
The in-camera formatting is great, but the new menu is pointless. I think they just needed somewhere to put the formatting option and this was the easiest way to do it. It's just more stuff to scroll through to get to the essentials as far as I'm concerned. As you say Quirky, ISO, WB and shutter angle should be much easier to access (and ideally at least in live view, if not while actually recording). Now the given path is to navigate from 'metadata' to 'settings' and then through Camera Name, Day, Month, Year, Hour and Minute before getting to ISO! It's ridiculous ...
